The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Monday morning. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles was not in attendance so Dennis Purcell took his turn as Presiding Commissioner for the meeting. Dick Kitchen was at the meeting to request permission to use the courthouse square and courthouse lawn for the Current Rivers Cruisers Car Show on June 18th. His request was approved by the commission. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said materials would be added and grading done on Dent County Roads 4160 and 6370 while only grading would be done on county roads 5380, 5390 and 6460. Brush is going to be cut on county road 6080. Purcell said he spoke with Rick Halbert of the Roads and Trails management of the Ozark National Scenic Riverways and was told they would be maintaining Dent County Roads 6530 to Baptist Camp and county road 6670 to Route YY. That includes filling the spider cracks in the road, cutting brush on the right-of-way and removing snow. Purcell reported he was invited to attend an all-day workshop today in Van Buren on the revision of the Roads and Trails Management Plan of 1991 that was part of the updated management plan. Commissioner Gary Larson stated materials would be added and grading done on Dent County Roads 2020 and 4480, while only grading would be done on county roads 4010 and 4300. He did say brush would be cut on county road 2150. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley wanted to remind everyone absentee voting will continue through March 14th  for the Presidential Preference Primary in her office and that her office will be open from 8:00 AM until noon on Saturday, March 12th for absentee voting as well. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors will conduct their March meeting tonight at the fire station beginning at 6:00 PM. After approval of the agenda there will be a review of the minutes from the February meeting. The Board will look at financial reports, approve bills and then review their calendar of events followed by the monthly reimbursement report. The Board will address any old or new business, followed by reports. The Board will then set their April meeting for Tuesday, April 5th at the fire station beginning at 6:00 PM and may vote to go into closed session for the purpose of discussing personnel, if necessary. The March meeting of the Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors is open to the public.

The University of Missouri Extension is hosting the 2016 East Central Missouri Cattlemen’s Bus Tour on March 17th through the 19th. This tour will feature a variety of educational tour stops on different segments of the beef and agricultural industries. The tour departs on March 17th from Rolla with pick-up’s in Vienna and Fulton. Tour stops will include Musgrave  Angus in Griggsville, IL, the University of Illinois Orr Beef Research Center in Perry IL, the Tyson Fresh Meats Beef Packing Facility in Joslin, IL, the John Deere Harvester Works in Moline, IL, the Drebes Farm in Monroe City, MO, and the Linnenbringer Farms in Hatton, MO. The cost forthe tour, which includes all the transportation, lodging, fees, and the majority of meals, is $675 per couple (double occupancy hotel room) or $475 per single (single occupancy hotel room). The Dent County Cattlemen will hold their annual meeting on Saturday, March 5th at Indian Trail Archery on Highway 19 North in Salem. Registration starts at 6:00 pm and the ladies of the Sligo United Methodist Church will serve our meal at 6:30 P.M. There will be a $7.00 per plate charge. Children under the age of five may eat free. Senator Dan Brown will be there to give a legislative update.  There will be silent and live auctions to raise funds for the Cattlemen’s scholarship fund and drawings for door prizes. Following the speaker and auction will be a short business meeting. This is the time for election of officers for the coming year, so please plan to vote. The county board has approved to change the by-laws to add two board members and the membership will vote on the by-law change at this time. Memberships are also due. The cost is $10 and is payable at this meeting. The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers hit nine 3-pointers in the game and after a sluggish start where no one scored for the first 4 ½ minutes, pounded Eldon in the 1st round of District play by the score of 67-37 in Jefferson City at Rackers Fieldhouse. Kobe Mead and Logan Woolf each netted 17 points while Antonio Quick added 16 more. Salem has won their last seven straight games and are 16-10 on the year. They will play Jeff City Helias Thursday night at 8:30 in the district semi-final.

The Salem Lady Tigers gave up just 12 points in the 1st half and outscored the Rolla Lady Bulldogs Monday night by the score of 58-37 at Rackers Fieldhouse in Jefferson City. Payton Curley scored 21 points to lead the Lady Tigers while Baylee Bilyou added 10 more. Salem is now 22-4 on the year and they will face the Osage Lady Indians Thursday afternoon at 5:30. The price of admission is $4.00 per person per game (boys and girls) for those who are six years of age and above. All the games will be broadcast live on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com; and recorded for Fidelity Local 6.

The Missouri Tigers will be at LSU tonight starting at 7:30 in SEC Conference play. Missouri enters the game with a 10-19 record on the season and 3-13 in the SEC Conference. The game will NOT be heard on KSMO due to the Blues Hockey game.

The St. Louis Blues will continue their four game road trip in Ottawa tonight as they will face the Senators starting at 6:30 on KSMO.  St. Louis is two points back of Chicago for the NHL Central Division lead. The Blues are 1-1 on the trip that will conclude Sunday in Minnesota. You can hear the pre-game show on KSMO starting at 6:00.

Funeral services for Mae Elizabeth Tighe Halbrook of Rolla, age 95, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Salem.

Funeral services for Jessie Stricklin of Cherryville, age 79, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the New Home Cemetery in Cherryville. Memorials may be given to the Gibbs Care Center.

Graveside services for Joe O. Perry of Salem, age 74, will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Lake Springs Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary of Salem.
