The Dent County Commission met Monday at the courthouse for their regular meeting. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell stated grading would be done and materials added on Dent County Road 6480. He said grading would be done on county roads 5490, 5500, 6070 and 6570 while brush would be cut on Dent County Road 6460. Purcell reported the National Park Service would be removing gravel from upstream of the Cedar Grove Bridge in the Current River the second week of March before the 15th. The county will have dump trucks there to haul away the gravel. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said grading would be done and materials added to Dent County Roads 2050 and 4030, while grading only would be done on county road 4290. Materials will also be added to county roads 3305 and 3165 and brush is going to be cut on Dent County Road 2130. Larson and Purcell agreed to put out bids for culverts that will be due at the Dent County Clerk’s Office on March 10th at 10:30. They will be opened in the regular meeting at that time. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles will be at the Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District executive session today. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported absentee voting for the Presidential Preference Primary will continue until April 14th. Her office will be open on Saturday, March 5th from 8:00 AM until noon for absentee voting. Absentee voting for the April municipal election starts today with the deadline to register to vote for that election April 9th. Today is also the day persons can sign up for the August 2nd Primary. Persons interested in filing for a county office should contact her office at 729-4144 if they have questions. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released reports. On Wednesday, February 10th, a search warrant was executed in the 600 block of South Askins. As a result Timothy Robinson of Salem was arrested. Robinson is currently being held in the Dent County Jail on a $75,000 cash only bond. Robinson was also charged in connection with an incident which occurred on Highway WW where a suspected methamphetamine lab was found. On Monday, February 15th deputies made contact with a female with an active warrant for her arrest. Amy Freeman of Salem was arrested in the 1000 block of Craig Industrial Drive. Freeman was transported to the Dent County Jail and incarcerated. On Saturday, February 20th deputies were dispatched to the 2500 block of Dent County Road 4110 for a report of an attempted theft. Deputies made contact with the victim who alleged that Jeffery Porter had taken medication from a locked room. As a result, 55-year old Jeffery Porter of Salem was subsequently arrested for possession of a controlled substance after deputies found him hiding in a field near the residence. Porter was transported to the Dent County Jail pending application of a warrant.

Dent County Health Center and Healthy Dent County announce a free community event for the Dent County Million Hearts to showcase local health-care providers and professionals. The  Million Hearts Kick-Off will be held this Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Salem Community Center @ the Armory. The first 250 attendees will receive a free water bottle and a tote bag. Over 20 vendors will be attending including; the Salem Memorial District Hospital, Dent County Medical Clinic, Air Evac Helicopter, Dent County Health Center, Healthy Dent County, Dent County Fire Protection District, as well as local chiropractors, dentists, eye doctors, pharmacies, and many health care professions. The event is free for all ages. Bring a canned good or non-perishable food item to get a ticket to win prizes, such as a kayak, treadmill, FitBit HRs, Beats Headphones, fitness baskets and food baskets. One ticket per item, and the more you donate, the more your chances increase to win prizes. All donations will be given to the Sacred Heart Food Pantry. There will also be a poster contest for the 5th graders of Salem to showcase what they have learned about the signs of strokes. The winning poster will receive a Fitbit Flex and the 2nd and 3rd place winners will also receive a prize. Mark your calendars for the Million Hearts Kick-Off event this Thursday from 4:00-7:00 PM. A Conceal and Carry Class will be held at the Salem Community Center @ the Armory on Saturday, March 12th from 8:00 in the morning until 4:00 in the afternoon. Sergeant Len Pabin with the Dent County Sheriff’s office will be the instructor. The class will consist of classroom instruction and requires that you demonstrate safety and marksmanship ability with a semi-automatic pistol or a revolver at the local shooting range. If you do not have a weapon, one will be provided. There is a cost of $60 to attend the class. Call Sergeant Pabin at 729-7207 to make your reservation.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers will host the St. Clair Bulldogs in their final home game of the 2015-2016 season. The JV game will begin at 5:30 with the varsity game following the Senior Night festivities. Salem enters the game with a 14-10 record. You can hear the game on KSMO and online at ksmoradio.com. The game will be recorded for playback on Fidelity Local 6.

The Salem Lady Tigers traveled to St. Clair to face the Lady Bulldogs to close out regular season play on Monday  and came away with a 54-43 win. Payton Curley led the team with 19 points and Kaleigh Nash with 14 points. The win improves Salem's record to 21-4 on the season. The Lady Tigers will begin districts Monday against Rolla at 8:30, the games will be played in Jefferson City at Helias High School.

The Missouri Basketball Tigers will be at Ole Miss tonight to face the Rebels in SEC Conference play. Missouri enters the game with a 10-17 overall record and 3-11 in the SEC Conference. The game will begin at 8:00 and KSMO will join the game in progress after the Salem Tiger Boys basketball game.

Tomas Hertl, Logan Couture and Joe Thornton each scored two goals, powering the San Jose Sharks to a 6-3 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Monday night. The Blues lost goalie Brian Elliott to a lower-body injury in the first period. The Blues play the Rangers Thursday at 7 p.m.

Funeral services for Hazel Smith of Salem, age 63, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Interment will be in the Mr. Hermon Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Hermon Methodist Church and Cemetery.

Funeral services for Barbara Lee Ritter of Salem, age 75, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Bunker Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Ritter Family for funeral expenses.
