The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors held their meeting Tuesday evening in the hospital library. After approval of the minutes from the January meeting, Chief Financial Officer Monica Gargus gave the summary of operations and statistics reports for January that showed inpatient admissions were down slightly for the month as were outpatient registrations. The hospital had a gain from operations in January of $12,799. During the month, the cash flow statement showed an increase in cash of $500,594. Days in Accounts Receivables were 54 compared to 53 for December and it was noted that they were training a new coder and were behind between seven to eight days. Chief Nursing Officer Mary Lou Brooks reported during the month there were 62 acute care admissions as well as 712 emergency room visits with an average turnaround time of 127 minutes. Also during the month, there were 192 ambulance runs with 141 patients transported to the hospital, 28 surgery cases, 1,394 outpatient registrations, 174 home health visits, 6,822 lab tests, 861 radiological procedures, 167 CT scans, 17 MRI scans, three nuclear med scans, 498 rehab treatments, 173 dialysis treatments and 336 clinical visits of which 132 were for podiatry. Brooks also reported there have only been nine confirmed influenza cases to date and only four through the end of January. Hospital Administrator Kasey Lucas reported that the Hospital Auxiliary held a meeting on February 2nd with eight members attending and the next meeting will be held Tuesday, March 1st at noon at the Salem Community Center. The auxiliary will hold their Scrubs and Beyond Fund Raiser on March 17th in the hospital library. Lucas stated that a total of 421 participated during the General Health Screening that was held February 10th and 11th. Mary Lou Brooks then stated that the Salem Memorial District Hospital will be well represented at upcoming Millions Hearts Kick- Off on February 25th at the Salem Community Center @ the Armory starting at 4:00. The board is asking those that have not yet filled out a survey to do so. To date a total of 675 surveys have been filled out and returned to the hospital. The SMDH Foundation Program will hold a meeting on February 23rd and there are three vacancies that remain on that board. The Board then approved the updated Salem Memorial District Hospital Chart of Organization. They also approved the financial assistance policy changes based on information taken directly from the government site. The Board then approved the budgeted purchase of a label printer from Evident for $1,104 and the non-budgeted purchase of six beds for Long Term Care for $8,383 from Noa Medical Industries. The original bed purchase last year was supposed to be for a total of 18 beds, but the hospital only bought 12 beds, which left $2,931 that was budgeted for the purchase. The hospital would need an additional $5,452 of non-budgeted funds to make up the difference of $8,383. The Board also approved the non-budgeted purchase of a surgery stretcher that has a head rest for eye surgery patients for $6,883 from Stryker. Administrator Lucas then updated the Board on meeting changes for later in the year. The November meeting will be held on November 15th and the December meeting will be held on December 13th, so as not to interfere with holidays. The Board then voted to go into closed session.
