The Salem Board of Aldermen met Tuesday night at the city hall council chamber. In the hearing of persons, Kristen DeLuca with K Deluca Audit Services gave the yearly independent audit report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2015. The audit found that the city ended the year with $14,110,428 in total assets and $1,412,621 in total liabilities leaving a total net position of $13,105,044. This was a total net increase of $229,057 over last year’s figures and a total increase of cash of $294,146.  Included in this year’s audit report, for the first time, was a pension liability statement which reports the changes in net pension liability for the past 10 years. DeLuca gave an unmodified opinion for the audit with no issues to report. The board approved a bid from Bones Transportation for 72 tons of red shale dirt that would cover all city ball fields at a price of $78 per ton for a total expense of $5,616. Assistant Park and Recreation Director Tyler Wofford requested the remaining money left over from the $10,000 budgeted expense for the dirt be spent to improve the outfield grass areas, but no decision was made on the request by the board. City Administrator Ray Walden reported that he and Bryan Johns will attend a meeting in St. Robert on Thursday with other city officials in the Missouri Joint Municipal Electric Utility Commission. A Park Board meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 22nd at the Salem Community Center @ the Armory; a Finance Committee meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 1st also at the Armory; a Utility Committee meeting will be held on Monday, March 7th at 6 PM at the City Hall Council Chambers. Walden reported that he is currently getting an engineering assessment on purposed uses done at the former cafeteria and gym buildings located at the former High School on 10th Street. The MS&T Project Management class students are working on projects around town and will have a community presentation and dinner on April 19th at the Salem Community Center @ the Armory. The board approved the appointment of Mrs. Natalie Sellers to replace Loretta McClure, who tendered her resignation on the Library Board. After making an adjustment to the agenda, the board approved an invoice from Strukel Electric for a total of $4,372.85 for repairs to the lights at the airport. The Board then went into closed session.

The Salem Police Department released their reports. On Friday, February 5th at 12:15 in the morning, an officer located a 24-year old Salem male in the 300 block of East Park who had an active arrest warrant from Dent County. He was taken into custody on the warrant and released to the Dent County Sheriffs Department. That same night at 9:22, an officer located a 24-year old female of Licking at the Southeast Missouri Behavioral Health Facility who had an active arrest warrant from Texas County. She was taken into custody on the warrant and incarcerated pending extradition. Than at 9:44 Friday night, an officer located a 26-year old Salem male near the 1100 block of North Main who had an active arrest warrant from Dent County.  He was taken into custody on the warrant and released after paying all fines and court cost associated with the warrant. On Saturday, February 6th at 4:58 in the afternoon, an officer located a 30-year old male of Owensville at the Southeast Missouri Behavioral Health Facility who had an active arrest warrant from Gasconade County, Missouri. He was taken into custody on the warrant and incarcerated pending extradition.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers rallied in the 4th quarter and came from behind to beat the Willow Springs Bears in SCA play by the score of 56-47. Antonio Quick finished with 18 points as did Kobe Mead to lead the Tigers who are now 13-10 on the year and 5-1 in the SCA. Salem will host the Thayer Bobcats Thursday night in a girls-boys doubleheader in the final SCA games of the year. The girls will play at 6:00 to try to win the SCA Conference championship outright while the boys will try keeping their chances of sharing the SCA Title alive starting at 7:30. Both games will be on KSMO Radio, online at ksmoradio.com and on Fidelity Local 6.

Ryan Rosburg scored 18 points to lead Missouri to a 72-67 victory over South Carolina on Tuesday night. Missouri is now 10-16 on the year and 3-10 in the Southeastern Conference, and they have won two straight games. Terrence Phillips scored 15 points and Namon Wright added 11 for Missouri. The Tigers will face Arkansas on Saturday night.

Kevin Shattenkirk scored a power-play goal at 1:11 of overtime and Brian Elliott had another strong game in net for the St. Louis Blues, who ended the Dallas Stars' four-game winning streak with a 2-1 victory Tuesday night. Brian Elliott made his 15th consecutive start, a career high, and had 17 saves. The Blues play the Los Angeles Kings Thursday at 7 p.m., but the game won’t be heard on KSMO until 9:00 after Tiger basketball.

Funeral services for Leonard Thompson of Salem, age 89, will be held today at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary of Salem.

Graveside services for Patricia Ann Thomas of Rolla, age 76, will be held today at 2:00 at the Cane Ridge Cemetery in Lorman, Mississippi. Memorials are suggested to the American Kidney Fund in Rockville, MD., or go to www.kidneyfund.org. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

Funeral services for Elizabeth June “Betty” Selbe, of Viburnum, age 73, will be held Thursday at 5:00 at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church at Viburnum. Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 to 5:00. Interment will be in the Upper Indian Creek Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Emanuel United Methodist Church. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary of Viburnum.

Funeral services for Buren Clark Triplett of Safety Harbor, Florida, age 94, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the New Harmony Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Interment will be in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery in Salem. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the New Harmony Baptist Church. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary of Salem.

Funeral services for Reverend “Ben” Bernard Littrell of Rolla will be on Saturday at 2:00 at the Church of the Nazarene in Rolla. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 until 8:00 at the church. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery in Steelville. All arrangements are under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral home in Steelville.

Funeral services for Annie M. Rymer of Salem, age 59, will be held at a later date. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem.
