The Salem Police Department released their reports. On Tuesday, February 2nd at 1:47 in the early morning, an officer located a 25-year old male of Salem, in the 800 block of East Hunt who had an active arrest warrant from Dent County. He was taken in to custody on the warrant and was later released after paying fine and cost. Later that morning at 8:16 an officer was contacted at the station in reference to an assault that had occurred at Wal-Mart. That investigation revealed a 23-year old Salem male had assaulted a 75-year old male from Spring Valley, Illinois. Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect who was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. Then at 11:08 that same morning, an officer was contacted at station in reference to tampering with a motor vehicle. The investigation of the report revealed a 16-year old female juvenile had let air out of a tire of a vehicle and threw debris on the vehicle that was parked at the Salem Senior High School parking lot. Further investigation led to the detention of the juvenile who was released to a parent after questioning. The report will be forwarded to the Juvenile Office for further review. That afternoon at 1:47 an officer was detailed to Dollar General in reference to a shoplifter. The investigation of the report led to the detention of a 33-year old female of Rolla for stealing merchandise valued $20.50. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Early that evening at 5:29 a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. That investigation led to the detention of a 49-year old Salem male for driving while suspended and for failing to put a child in a child restraint. He was issued summonses to appear in court and released. Please contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242 if you have any information regarding an ongoing investigation.

The 2016 Forage and Beef Conference will be held on Monday, February 29th at the Knights of Columbus in Cuba. Registration is as 12:30 PM followed by the Livestock Watering Systems discussion at 1:00, a discussion on Fencing at 1:45, followed by a break. At 3:00, the Show-Me Select Replacement Heifer Development Program will be discussed. After another short break beginning at 4:00, the conference continues with a Producer Panel discussion followed by Using DNA Technology to Improve Commercial Beef Herds at 5:15. The dinner will be at 6:00 PM. There is a $10 per person charge for the conference and that is payable at the door.

The Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC), Phelps County Public Housing Agency (PHA) Family Self-Sufficiency Program and the Missouri Ozarks Community Action (MOCA) will host a free workshop February 18 on “Tackling the Tough Skills.” This workshop focuses on responsibility, attitude, communication, problem solving and preparing for the workplace. The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the MRPC offices located at #4 Industrial Drive in St. James, and will be presented by MOCA County Project Coordinator Christy Saylor. This is the second in a series of three workshops that Saylor will present. The workshop is offered at no cost to the participant. Please RSVP by calling Linda Hollandsworth at 573-265-4200 ext. 132. Free training classes are a part of the MRPC and PHA's efforts to help prepare families who are first-time homebuyers for home ownership and make them aware of the resources available to assist with home ownership. These partnerships are a part of MRPC's outreach efforts in partnership with senior citizen housing groups and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines, which assists with grant funds to renovate senior citizen housing complexes throughout the region.

An accident happened in Phelps County on Interstate 44 about three miles west of Doolittle Thursday afternoon at 3:43. According to the highway patrol report, a 2012 Honda CR-V driven westbound by 33-year old Sarah Points of St. Robert, overtook a 2010 Volkswagon Jetta driven westbound by 20-year old Jerid Land of Salem. The Honda then cut in too quickly striking the front of the Volkswagon causing the Honda to travel off the right side of the roadway, overturn and strike several trees. Points suffered minor injuries and was taken to the General Leonard Wood Community Hospital by the Phelps County Ambulance District. The Honda was totaled in the accident and removed from the scene by C&C Towing. The Volkswagon had only minor damage and was driven from the scene. Both Points and Land were wearing seat restraints at the time of the accident.

The Salem Lady Tigers hosted the Viburnum Lady Jays Thursday and took control from the start to win by the final score of 73-44. Sophomore Baylee Bilyeu also blocked two shots, her 118th and 119th career blocks, to become Salem's all-time blocks leader. Payton Curley scored 19 points, Bilyeu added 12 more followed by Kaleigh Nash with 11 points. Salem is now 18-4 on the year and they will host Willow Springs Monday night.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers will be at Cabool tonight to face the Bulldogs in a key SCA contest starting at 6:00 with the JV contest with the varsity game to follow. Both teams are 2-1 in the SCA Conference going into the game tonight. Overall, Salem is 11-10 on the season while Cabool is 16-7. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com.

The St. Louis Blues begin a two-game road trip to Florida where tonight they will face the Florida Panthers. The game will have a delayed start at 9:00 after Salem Tiger Basketball. The Blues will then be in Tampa Bay to face the Lightning Sunday afternoon starting at 4:30 on KSMO.

The Missouri Basketball Tigers will be hosting Tennessee Saturday afternoon starting at 1:30. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

Graveside services for Patricia Ann Thomas of Rolla, age 76, will be held Wednesday at 2:00 at the Cane Ridge Cemetery in Lorman, Mississippi. Memorials are suggested to the American Kidney Fund in Rockville MD. or www.kidneyfund.org. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

Funeral services for Buren Clark Triplett of Safety Harbor, Florida, age 94, will be held Saturday, February 20th at 1:00 at the New Harmony Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from Friday, February 19th from 5:00 to 7:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Interment will be in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery in Salem. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the New Harmony Baptist Church. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary of Salem.

Funeral services for Donald H. Thomas of Boss, age 79, will be held at a later date. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.
