Dent County Assessor Tina Whitaker wants to remind everyone your annual assessment forms that list your personal and business property will be coming due on March 1st. Those forms MUST be in the Dent County Assessor’s Office by that day to avoid paying a penalty. All 2016 Assessment lists have been mailed out. The items listed in the yellow box are what you were assessed in 2015. If you no longer own some of the items listed on January 1st of 2016, simply draw a line through it. If you have purchased anything new that is not listed and you owned it on January 1st of 2016, simply write it on the bottom and/or the back side of the form where it would apply. If you are a business, please fill out the equipment section where it applies or attach a separate itemized list. You may drop off your assessment list at the assessor’s office at the courthouse and they are open from 8:00 in the morning until 4:30 in the afternoon, Monday through Friday. There is also a drop box on the front lawn of the courthouse for your convenience if you can’t make it until after hours. You can also mail in your assessment forms. Remember, the forms must be received in the Assessor’s office by Tuesday, March 1st or postmarked March 1st to avoid a penalty. The penalty is assessed at $10 per every $1,000 of assessed valuation with a maximum penalty of $100 if you have assessed valuation of $10,000 or more. If you have lost your assessment list forms, additional blank forms are available at the Dent County Assessor’s Office.
