The Dent County Commissioners met Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse for their regular meeting. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell indicted materials would be added to and grading done on Dent County Roads 5410 and 5420, while only grading would be done on county roads 6010, 6400 and 6570. Purcell added brush was going to be cut on Dent County Road 6580. He did state that he would be attending the Dent County Tourism Committee meeting on Monday, February 15th. Purcell is investigating the deterioration of the pavement on Dent County Roads 6530 from Baptist Camp to Dent County Road 6570, then west on county road 6570 to Route YY, as well as the lack of maintenance being done at the current time. According to a lease between Dent County and the National Park Service from August 22, 1991, the National Park Service is supposed to be maintaining those roads, but the NPS has not removed snow or maintained the condition of the roadway in some time. Purcell said he has called to speak with Deputy Superintendent Russ Runge at the National Park Service and left a message to get back with him on this subject. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said he and Road Supervisor Sam Gorman went out Sunday night to cut up a tree that fell across Dent County Road 4260, blocking the road from traffic. They were able to cut enough of the tree away to allow for people to get through. A grader will push the rest of the tree out of the way. Larson stated materials would be added and grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 2370 and 3020, while only grading would be done on county roads 3165 and 4280. Larson reported materials would be added to Dent County Road 2380 and brush was going to be cut on county roads 2030 and 2055. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said the commissioners would be at training this week so there would be no meeting Thursday morning, and the courthouse would be closed on Monday for President’s Day and again, there will be no commissioner meeting. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said the last day to register to vote will be Wednesday, February 17th for the Presidential Preference Primary. She also said she would be attending a County Retirement System training Wednesday in Jefferson City on using a new portal for the retirement system. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday, February 18th at 9:00 at the courthouse.
