The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Monday morning in the Dent County Courthouse. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams reported that CART receipts for January were $52,568.21, which was down by $2,181.25 when compared to January 2015. Prosecuting Attorney Andrew Curley was in to report what he had learned while researching the sales tax issues relative to the proposed Justice Center that came to light last week. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles asked if there were other jurisdictions with the same issues. Curley said that Joe Weber was to research that question. After some discussion of the many issues yet to be addressed, the Commissioners voted 3–0 to approve a news release stating that a new jail/justice center for Dent County will not be on the April 2016 ballot. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5615, 5110, 5130 and 2470, while brush would be cut on county road 6540. He added that a man was working on a pup trailer and would be hauling materials after the repairs were completed. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that his road supervisor was checking roads to see which ones were gradable. He went on to say that brush was being cut on Dent County Roads 2210 and 2320, while materials were being hauled to county roads 2380 and 2070. Larson added his crew was also performing maintenance on truck #114 and loader #3. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said he had been contacted by Robert Ross, the State Representative from Texas County, asking for support for HB 2187 which Ross is sponsoring. The bill is relative to the land DNR has purchased in Oregon County and if passed, the bill would require DNR to sell the property at public auction by August 28, 2016 or ownership would revert to Oregon County. Skiles added that on Tuesday he would be attending the MRPC Legislative Day in Jefferson City. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reminded voters to make sure any changes such as address or name have been updated on their voter registration card. Anyone with questions should call her office at (573) 729-4144. Curley added that February 2nd is the first day to vote absentee for the March 15th Presidential Primary Preference, that February 17th is the last day to register to vote for the March 15th election, and that voters will have to declare what party ballot they want. At 10:00, the budget hearing was held. Skiles reviewed the revenue and expense totals for 2015, and the commissioners discussed projected revenue and expenses for 2016 for the General Revenue fund, Road and Bridge fund, Assessors fund, 911 fund, Law Enforcement fund and Senate Bill 40 fund. The budget was approved 3–0. Skiles commented that all funds ended the year better than projected due to the diligence of the county office holders. Sarah Buckzkiewicz and Larry Hart of L. J. Hart Underwriters were in to present a preliminary financial analysis for a proposed Jail/Justice Center. Dent County Prosecuting Attorney Andrew Curley was present for the presentation. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 in the Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
