The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors met for the regular meeting Tuesday evening at the hospital library. Chief Financial Officer Monica Gargus gave the summary of operations for December that showed inpatient admissions were up for the month while outpatient registrations were down for the month. The hospital had a loss from operations in December of $212,617 with an excess of expenses over revenues of $156,197. During the month, the cash flow statement showed an increase in cash of $316,877. Chief Nursing Officer Mary Lou Brooks reported during the month there were 65 acute care admissions, 735 emergency room visits with an average turnaround time of 129 minutes. Also during the month, there were 190 ambulance runs with 186 patients being assessed and 148 patients transported to the hospital, 31 surgery cases, 1,455 outpatient registrations, 159 home health visits, 7,221 lab tests, 852 radiological procedures, 175 CT scans, 17 MRI scans, 13 nuclear med scans, 534 rehab treatments, 187 dialysis treatments and 305 clinical visits of which 118 were for podiatry. Brooks also reported there have only been four confirmed influenza cases this fiscal year. Lucas then reviewed the Emergency Department and Inpatient Satisfaction Survey results from October through December of 2015. A total of 129 surveys from the Emergency Department were received and showed results in the 95% or higher range, while the Inpatient Survey also produced very good results. The board reviewed the SMDH Family Medicine Patient Satisfaction survey results from the 141 surveys received and were pleased to see that most categories received a 100% satisfaction rating with the lowest rating coming in at 98%. The board approved the CRNA privileges for six persons and approved active staff privileges for Dr. Sarfaraz Jasdenwala. The board also approved the active staff and courtesy staff privileges as recommended by the medical staff. Lucas reported there were no physician contacts during the month of December, and in the Electronic Medical Record report, he stated there was nothing new with Medhost, but the CPOE conversion is complete. Lucas said the hospital would be putting together the application for reimbursement after achieving the Meaningful Use Stage 2 results. He went on to say the first Health Screening would be February 10th and 11th at the Salem Community Center at the Armory from 6:00 to 9:00 AM. The SMDH Annual Foundation Advisory meeting will be February 23rd and the new directors who will serve on the board will be Ken Sheriff and Dennis Fiebelman as they will replace Judy Thompson and Joe Brand. Lucas said there are two vacancies on the advisory board and if people are interested in serving on that board, they should let the hospital know. Mary Lou Brooks said the hospital has received over 400 Community Surveys to date and they will continue to receive surveys until February 29th. She said they would have surveys at the Health Fair and at the Mission Hearts Campaign kick-off on February 26th. The board approved the changes made to the organizational chart and may have to wait until the next meeting to approve it again per hospital policy for a bylaw review. Board filings ended with only Dennis Fiebelman signing up so no election will be needed. The board approved the purchase of eight new beds for Long Term Care from Noa Medical Industries for just over $11,000, and the conflict of interest policy was approved. The board discussed some financial assistance policy changes but no decision was made. Lucas discussed with the board budget meetings and would like to get started in February and finish with a proposed budget by the April meeting to review. The board then went into closed session.
