The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting Thursday morning in the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report District I Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that his crews were continuing to repair roads damaged from the recent heavy rains in various locations. He went to say that he is extremely concerned about trash being dumped on roads, particularly on Dent County Road 5150. Purcell went on to say that there were bags of trash dumped on Dent County Road 5015 and that those bags would be searched to identify the culprits. Information obtained would then be turned over to the prosecuting attorney’s office. It was noted that fines for illegal dumping could be as much as $20,000. Anyone with information about trash or household items being dumped is asked to contact the Dent County Sheriff’s office at (573) 729-3241. District II Commissioner Gary Larson said that most roads in his district are open and that materials would be added to and patch grading done on Dent County Roads 2110 and 2115, while patch grading only would be done on county road 2120. He went on to say that there is a huge hole washed out on Dent County Road 2110, which makes it impassable at that point. All three Commissioners agreed that generally roads were not severely damaged considering the volume of runoff from the 5 to 9 inches of rainfall. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles noted that the Farm Services Agency (FSA) has programs available to assist farmers and ranchers that have suffered flood damage.
