The Dent County Commission met for their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said a tire would be changed on the repair truck and pup trailer, a new output hose would be put on the Dura-Patcher, a new switch would be put on the Air Compressor on the pup trailer, and workers would be welding a brush cutter mower deck. Purcell went on to report that he attended a Dent County Tourism Tax Committee meeting Monday where they tabled the reimbursement of one submission and approved a proposal from the Dent County Extension for the 4-H and FFA Expo. On Tuesday, Purcell attended the South Central Missouri Community Action Agency meeting in Winona. He said their mission is to assist low-income residents to help them become self-sufficient. He said that in Dent County, there are 68 children 3-4 years of age attending Headstart and 16 more attending Early Headstart from newborns to 36 months of age that are funded through the SCMCAA. Then on Wednesday, Purcell attended the Meramec Regional Development Corporation meeting at the MRPC. Purcell said their mission is to partner with local banks to service loans that will create jobs including SBA loans and Revolving Fund Loans. Purcell said they have money available for projects throughout the Meramec region. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said workers would be out checking for downed road signs, clogged culverts and checking the general condition of county gravel roads with this rain. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles stated he attended an Ozarks Rivers Solid Waste Management District Board meeting Tuesday and said applications for waste reduction grants for 2016 were discussed. Formal applications will be out next month, but if someone has a question about recycling they need answered, please call Jill or Tammy at 573-265-2993. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported phone bids were taken for 1,000 gallons of unleaded fuel for the Road and Bridge Department and the low bid was Phil-Mart in Salem at $2.43 per gallon. Commissioner Larson reported that he and Mike Smith from the Department of Conservation would soon be traveling the white rock roads the county provides the rock for to determine how much gravel will be needed. The rock used is paid for by the Department of Conservation. Special Investigator Deputy Dwayne Becker said the state of Missouri has approved the continuation of the Cyber Crimes grant for Dent County for $45,361.96. This is the same amount the county has received every year since 2009. Then at 10:00, the commission went into closed to discuss litigation. The next meeting of the Dent County Commission will be Monday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
