The Phelps County Sheriff's Department has issued an Endangered Person Advisory for a missing person incident that occurred at 16711 Highway 72 in Rolla, MO at 7:00 a.m. on 07/02/2015. The endangered missing person: Tania E Bowman and Savannah Mitchell. THIS ENDANGERED PERSON ADVISORY HAS BEEN CANCELLED AS BOTH HAVE BEEN LOCATED IN ST. LOUIS.

On Monday, July 6th at 8:30 in the morning, Congressman Jason Smith will present Vietnam Veteran Frank Grosspietsch of Salem with the Purple Heart, a medal given to members of the military wounded or killed in service. Congressman Smith’s office is located at 830A South Bishop in Rolla. Congratulations to Frank and thank you for serving your country.

The Dent County Commissioners met Thursday morning in the Dent County Courthouse. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles noted to media present that there was no action taken in Monday’s closed session meeting. In the road report, District I Commissioner Dennis Purcell noted that varying amounts of rain fell in his district ranging from 2.5” to 4” and there were no reports of road damage. He went on to say his crew is off in observance of Independence Day, but are on call if needed. District II Commissioner Gary Larson said that he had a man out taking care of a tree down on Dent County Road 2240. Larson noted that the rest of his crew was also off in observance of the holiday. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that he was pleased to learn that Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster has joined eleven other states in filing suit in Federal District Court to stop the EPA and Army Corps of Engineers in redefining the Waters Of The United States (WOTUS). He said that every private property rights group has been fighting this because if they are allowed to redefine WOTUS then every pond, roadside ditch, etc., whether it has a constant water flow or not, will be under the jurisdiction of the EPA and the Army Corps of Engineers. Skiles also reminded everyone that the Courthouse is closed today in observance of the holiday. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that she balanced with the Dent County Treasurer on all accounts for the month of June. She went on to say that she also balanced with the Collector’s and Assessor’s Offices on all collections, abatements and add-ons for the month. Curley added that bills were being approved. Sheriff Rick Stallings brought in the contract for the Deputy Sheriffs Salary Supplemental Fund, which Skiles signed. The Commission then went in to closed session to interview justice center architects Shive Hattery - Nform at 9:30 and HTK Architects at 11:00. The Dent County Commissioners have cancelled their regular meeting on Monday, July 6th, due to the death of an immediate family member. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday, July 9th at 9:00 am at the Dent County Courthouse.

The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce states that there will be 56 entries and nine horses in this year’s Independence Day Parade Saturday that will begin at 6:00 from Franklin Street. The parade will progress north on McArthur, then east on Fourth Street ending at the Dent County Courthouse. Richard LaBrash will be the Grand Marshall this year. A $100 prize will be awarded to the winners of the best commercial and non-commercial float entries, and a $50 equestrian prize. Many other Independence Day events will be going on, mostly at the Dent County Commons, where they will host Garrett’s American Idol and DJ karaoke from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, and a demo derby demonstration by Flower’s Full Throttle Demo Team from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The New Harmony Church family fun day will also be held at The Commons, including inflatables, games, and other free stuff starting at 6:00 and lasting until just before dark. The fireworks display at the Commons sponsored by the City of Salem traditionally gets underway around 9:00 and will be produced by Larry Gray.

An accident occurred at 11:20 Wednesday morning in Phelps County on I-44 westbound in Rolla. According to the highway patrol report, a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu driven by 47-year old Julia Phillips of Licking was traveling westbound, ran off the right side of the roadway, striking a highway sign before coming to rest in the ditch. Phillips suffered minor injuries and was transported to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center by the Phelps County ambulance. She was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chevrolet sustained extensive damage and was removed by Ron Dishman’s Towing.

Whether your Independence Day plans will take place on land or on the water, Colonel J. Bret Johnson, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, reminds Missouri’s travelers of the importance of safety during the upcoming July Fourth holiday. In 2014, nine people were killed and 525 injured in Missouri over the holiday in 1,233 traffic crashes. One person was killed or injured every 10.8 minutes. Over the 2014 July Fourth holiday, troopers arrested 155 people for driving while intoxicated. The 2015 counting period for the July Fourth holiday will be from 6:00 tonight until 11:59 Sunday night, July 5th. The July Fourth weekend is also one of the quarterly DWI enforcement mobilization dates. Many of the troops have checkpoints and saturations scheduled for this period. Troopers have a zero tolerance for drinking and driving, whether on the road or on the water. Drinking and driving don't mix. Troopers throughout the state will participate in a 20-Mile Trooper operation on Sunday, July 5, 2015. This operation will include Interstates 35, 44, 55, and 70, and U.S. Highways 60 and 63. Troopers will be highly visible while targeting all traffic violations, and be especially vigilant of aggressive driving violations. Motorists who need assistance or who witness criminal activity while traveling on Missouri’s roadways can contact the nearest Highway Patrol troop headquarters by calling the Patrol Emergency Report Line at 1-800-525-5555 or *55 on a cellular phone. Motorists may call 1-888-275-6636 to check for road construction or possible flooding along their travel route.

Signups for Salem 5th and 6th grade football will be held Monday and Tuesday, July 6th and 7th at the Salem Community Center @ the Armory from 6:00 to 7:00 in the evening at 1200 West Rolla Road. The cost is $50 per child with $25 of that for insurance to play in the league and the other $25 is for equipment rental. After the season, the $25 will be refunded when the equipment is turned back in.

Will Venable belted a pinch-hit, two-run homer in the 11th inning to boost the San Diego Padres to a 5-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals to open a four-game series. The Cardinals scored just once after loading the bases with one out in the first inning, as Matt Carpenter crossed the plate on Yadier Molina's groundout. The Cardinals will play San Diego at 7:15 tonight on KSMO Radio.

The St. Louis Cardinals announced that they have placed outfielder Jon Jay (left wrist stress reaction/bone bruise) on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 1, and have recalled left-handed pitcher Tim Cooney from Memphis.

Kyle Gibson worked eight scoreless frames and Danny Santana knocked in the lead run as Minnesota topped Kansas City by a 2-0 count in the opener of a four-game series. The Royals will play Minnesota tonight at 7:10.

The Washington Capitals acquired forward and Olympic shootout hero T.J. Oshie from the St. Louis Blues on Thursday. Heading to the Blues are forward Troy Brouwer, goaltending prospect Pheonix Copley and a third-round draft selection in 2016.

Funeral services for Irma Baker, age 82, will be Monday at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Shannon County. Memorials are suggested to the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery.

Graveside services for Jimmie Donald Privett of Salem, age 44, will be held Tuesday at 1:00 at the Corinth Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. 

Funeral services for Richard L. Hemme of St. James will be held Tuesday, July 7 at 1:00 PM at the St, James Chapel of the James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 7, from 11:00 AM until service time. Interment will be in the Oak Forest Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary of St. James.

Fern (Beasley) Wofford Chamberlain, age 91, of Licking,Mo. passed away July 4th, Visitation will be Sunday,July 5th, 4-6 P.M. at Fox Funeral Home, Service will be Monday, July 6,2015, 2:00 P.M. at Licking Christian Church. All arrangements under direction of Fox Funeral Home, Licking, MO.
