The Dent County Commissioners met Monday morning for their regular meeting at the courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that portions of District 1 received over 2.8 inches of rain from Friday through Sunday morning. He said some limbs were down and crews were removing those and checking out the roads. He went on to say grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5220, 5630 and 6633, while materials would be added and grading done on county road 6500. Purcell did say a man went to Springfield to get a load of oil for chip and seal repair today. In District 2, Commissioner Gary Larson said workers would be patching roads that had some small washouts from the rains. He did state brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 3210 and 3280, and a man would be removing a tree from Dent County Road 3200. Larson reported that the backup generator at the Oak Grove Baptist Church worked fine during the city wide power outage on Sunday and there was still 53% of fuel left in the tank. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said he would be attending a Central region Workforce Investment Board Caucus in Jefferson City Tuesday. He also stated he and Commissioner Purcell attended the Naturally Meramec Program consortium meeting Friday at the ONCRC. The program moderator, Connie Willman, said the Dent County meeting was the largest of any of the eight counties. At the last meeting, Amanda Sapaugh with the SB40 board came in to recommend Stephanie Floyd be added to the board to replace Mary McFarland who resigned. The board approved her request. Sheriff Stallings and three members of the jail committee came in Thursday to discuss architects qualifications. The county received five qualification packets and the commission has narrowed it down to having three of the companies come in to meet and discuss the jail at a later date. The next meeting of the Dent County Commission will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

A consortium to identify and bring together agriculture and tourism related business in Dent County along with the other seven county Meramec Region met Friday at the Ozark Natural and Cultural Resource Center. The idea behind the consortium is to find ways to use and market products and services from businesses within the consortium. Planning Manager Connie Willman from the Meramec Regional Planning Commission chaired the meeting to provide the history and background as to how this project came about. The MRPC used funding from the Missouri Department of Agriculture to develop a database in 2012, and then in 2014, the MRPC received funding from the USDA Rural Development Farmer’s Market Promotion Program and Delta Regional Authority to hold meetings and develop strategies to bring the different businesses together. Willman said regional meetings would be held next in October, but they will be different than the introductory meeting in that they will be organized in an attempt to bring producers and potential customers together. A number of different ideas from marketing to education were suggested by the attendees to be added to the information that had already been received by the other county meetings. Many of the ideas have been derived from the “Dig In Vermont” program which is very successful. Willman said this project will take time to organize and implement, but the key to the success of the consortium will be to get all the businesses on board with the program.
