The Salem Police Department released their report for the month of May. During the month, they wrote six equipment repair orders and warnings, 14 summons to appear in court, 17 warning tickets, and 11 traffic tickets. The Salem Police Department investigated 16 accidents, two assaults, two burglaries, one report of counterfeiting, one report of disorderly conduct, one report of domestic assault, three reports of domestic violence, two reports of driving while intoxicated, one report of driving while revoked and/or suspended, two reports of leaving the scene of an accident, one report of a lost and/or stolen license plate, one report of a minor in possession of intoxicants and one report of a minor in possession of tobacco. The department also investigated one report of a missing person, one report of a missing and/or runaway juvenile, four reports of property damage, 14 reports of stealing, one report of tampering, one report of a violation of an exparte and/or full order of protection and one 96 hour commitment. They also investigated one report to manufacture amphetamine, four reports of possession of amphetamine, three reports of possession of marijuana and six reports of possession of opium or opium derivative. The police department received 1,556 calls for service during the month, handled 121 walk-ins to the station, and redirected 75 calls to the animal control officer. They spent 36 hours in court testifying, four hours as court bailiff and all officers attended driver training through the Missouri Sheriff Academy and all officers obtained taser re-certification through the Missouri Sheriff Association. The calls in May included 12 calls for escorts, three calls for an intoxicated driver, two calls for a prowler, five calls for a suspicious person and/or vehicle, three calls for intoxicated pedestrians, 14 calls for domestic disputes, and two calls for a wrecker. There were four 9-1-1 calls, nine calls for a peace disturbance, 10 calls for alarms sounding, three calls for fights in progress, six ambulance assist calls, three fire calls and one call for property damage. The Salem Police Department drove a total of 8,068 miles and arrested 15 males and 12 females during the month of May.

On Monday, June 1st at 12:59 in the afternoon, an accident occurred on Highway 19 in Salem. According to the Salem Police report, a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Samuel Flowers of Salem and a 2008 Ford Focus driven by Laken Ramsey of Salem were northbound on Highway 19 at Third Street and stopped in traffic. A 2004 Ford Escape driven by Randell Herman of Salem was also northbound on Highway 19 and failed to observe that traffic was stopped and made contact with the Chevrolet from behind. Due to the impact the Chevrolet made contact with the Ford Focus from behind. Ramsey and a passenger in the Ford Focus suffered minor injuries and were transported by private means to the Salem Memorial District Hospital for treatment. The Ford Escape and the Chevrolet Cavalier sustained minor damage while the Ford Focus sustained moderate damage.

The Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors held their June meeting Tuesday evening at the fire station. After the approval of the agenda and the minutes from the previous meeting, the Board reviewed a financial report as well as reviewed and approved bills and their calendar. The monthly reimbursement report presented to the Board showed a total of 18 calls for the month of May that included five structure fire calls, two brush fire calls, one call for a landing zone to be created, one first responder call, five calls for vehicle accidents, one call for mutual aid, one call for haz mat (gas leak), one fire alarm call, and one call for training. Total calls to date for the year is 134. In new business, a motion was made and carried to appoint David Greenshields as the new director to fill the vacant position. Fire Chief Brad Nash then reported on having Firefighter 1 and 2 courses for the District. The course estimate is 282 hours not including Hazmat awareness classes that have to be taken to prepare firefighters for a test in Jeff City. Nash is proposing a cost of around $9,300 to put 8 students through the course. There would be also a penalty phase for the students if the course is not completed. Nash would like to start the class in August. The Board discussed more incentives for the applicants and instructors and asked Nash to bring a new plan to the next meeting with more information. The Board gave Nash a budget of $15,000. The Board then set their July meeting for Tuesday, July 7th at the fire station beginning at 6:00 pm and the meeting was then adjourned.

Jorge De La Rosa pitched seven innings to lead the Colorado Rockies in a 4-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in the second of a three-game series. St. Louis didn't get its first hit until the fifth inning when Randal Grichuk led off with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch, took third on Jon Jay's groundout and scored thanks to a single from Bourjos.The Cardinals made it a 2-0 game in the sixth on Jhonny Peralta's two-out solo shot, but the Rockies answered in the home half as Carlos Gonzalez singled with one out and Arenado followed with his 15th home run of the season. The Cardinals will play the Rockies today at 2:10 on KSMO Radio.

Chris Young carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning, Salvador Perez cracked an upper-deck home run and the Kansas City Royals beat the Minnesota Twins 2-0 on Tuesday night. Young (5-2) issued three walks before Trevor Plouffe's one-out triple in the seventh inning broke up the no-hit bid and knocked him out of the game. Kansas City will play Minnesota tonight at 7:10.

Funeral services for Garry M. Scantlin of St. James, age 66, will be held this morning at 10:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Memorials are suggested to the Missouri Veterans Volunteers Group.

Funeral services for Jesse Hogan of Steelville, age 87, will be this morning at 11:00 at the Steelville Assembly of God Church. Interment will be in the Sellers Cemetery at Dillard. All arrangements are under the direction of the Britton Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.

Funeral services for Richard D. Nash of Salem, age 73, will be held today at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held from 11:00 this morning until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Autism Speaks.

Funeral Services for Ron Gorson of Salem, age 61, will be held tonight at 7:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until service time. Interment will be held in Texas at a later date.

Graveside services for Marie Ralph of Salem, age 62 will be held Thursday at 1:00 at the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be private. Memorials may be made to Project Win. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
