The Dent County Commissioners met Monday morning for their regular meeting. County Treasurer Denita Williams came in with the sales tax figure received this month and it came in at $88,966.56. She said that year-to-date, the county is still down from the sales tax collected from 2014 for the same time period by $6,037. Last month, the county was behind last year’s sales tax receipt figure by over $14,000. Williams also reported the county has received the adjustment check from the government from Secure Rural Schools Act that was re-authorized in April for $81,669.55. The Road and Bridge Department received $20,417.39 from that amount. The other 75% of the funds or the remaining $61,252.16 is being split up between the Bunker R-3, Iron County C-4, Oak Hill R-1, Northwood R-4 and Salem R-80 school districts. In the road report, Rusty Chamberlain gave the report for Commissioner Dennis Purcell who had a previous commitment. He said workers would be checking culverts to make sure that water was flowing freely. Chamberlain went on to say brush was being cut on county road 5190 and men were stockpiling granite chips for the summer chip and seal work. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 3230 and 3233, while one man would be hauling granite chips. Larson did say that men were working on the lights on county truck #116 and if they got them repaired, a man would be going to Springfield for another batch of oil for the Dura-Patcher. Larson stated the emergency generator for the county emergency shelter located at Oak Grove Baptist Church worked when tested and there was 51% fuel remaining in the tank. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles attended a SACBA meeting Monday night. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at the courthouse at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Dent County Sheriff's Office released reports. On Sunday morning, May 31st at 11:20, Mr. Irvin Chapman came into the Dent County Sheriff's Office and reported a garage window had been broken out of his garage located in the 100 Block of County Road 5083. A window had been broken out of a garage door. Window is valued at $77.00. On Tuesday afternoon, June 2nd at 12:30, a victim walked into the Sheriff's Office to report a theft at his property in Lenox. The victim reported multiple power tools taken from his barn. On Wednesday, June 3rd, a traffic stop was conducted at Highway 19 and Center Street. During a consent search of the vehicle, methamphetamine was located. As a result, Steven McCarter of Salem was arrested. McCarter is currently being held in the Dent County Jail with a bond of $7,000 cash only. On Friday, June 5th at 2:41 in the early morning, deputies made contact with a driver unconscious roadside on Dent County Road 2160. The subsequent investigation revealed the driver, later identified as 45-year old Charles Stroud of Licking, was intoxicated. Stroud was arrested. Stroud had two prior convictions for driving while intoxicated, which made this an upgraded felony. Stroud was incarcerated in the Dent County Jail for a felony charge of Driving While Intoxicated (Persistent Offender). Stroud's bond is currently set at $20,000 cash only. On Thursday, June 4th at 11:14 at night, deputies responded to the intersection of Highway 68 and County Road 3260 for an intoxicated male who was attempting to force his way into his ex-girlfriend's vehicle with her children inside. The suspect fled on foot prior to law enforcement arrival and was not located but was positively identified by the victim and witnesses on scene. A warrant for the arrest of the suspect was requested for Domestic Assault in the 3rd Degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child in the 2nd Degree. Also on Thursday, June 4th, deputies responded to the 900 block of Dent County Road 5070, for a report of an altercation involving two females. The victim was attempting to get the suspect out of her house. The suspect, later identified as Kimberly Avery, was attempting to locate a firearm belonging to the victim. Avery threatened harm to both law enforcement and the victim once she found the gun. Deputies arrived at the residence and secured Avery. Avery was transported to the Dent County Jail and placed on a 24-hour hold pending warrant application. Avery is currently being held in the Dent County Jail with a bond of $25,000 cash only. Anyone with any information regarding the broken window or theft of power tool reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to contact the Dent County Sheriff's Office by calling 729-3241.

Congratulations goes out to Brady Hagler for winning the first round in Team Roping and the average and a $1,000 scholarship from Boehringer Ingelheim in the High School Rodeo Finals. Brady also was given the Tyson Durfey Sportsmanship Award! Way to go Brady!

Troy Tulowitzki and Nolan Arenado homered and David Hale pitched seven quality innings in the Colorado Rockies' 11-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in Monday's series opener. After Kolten Wong put St. Louis on the board with a solo homer in the top of the fourth, Colorado ran up the score in the bottom of the inning. Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday left the game with a right quad strain. The Cardinals play Colorado tonight at 7:40 on KSMO Radio.

Kendrys Morales smacked a two-run homer, Jason Vargas fired six shutout innings and the Kansas City Royals defeated the Minnesota Twins 3-1 in the opener of a three-game set. Vargas (5-2) scattered five hits and didn't walk a batter for the Royals, who have won two straight on the heels of a three-game slide. Kansas City will play Minnesota tonight 8:10.

A funeral mass for Robert Wind of Salem, age 80, will be held this morning at 10:00 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Montauk Fire Department.

Funeral services for Garry M. Scantlin of St. James, age 66, will be held Wednesday at 10:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 7:00. Memorials are suggested to the Missouri Veterans Volunteers Group.

Funeral services for Jesse Hogan of Steelville, age 87, will be Wednesday at 11:00 at the Steelville Assembly of God Church. Visitation will be today from 5:00 to 8:00 at the Britton Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Sellers Cemetery at Dillard, Missouri.

Funeral services for Richard D. Nash of Salem, age 73, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held from 11:00 that morning until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Autism Speaks.

Funeral Services for Ron Gorson of Salem, age 61, will be held Wednesday night at 7:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until service time. Interment will be held in Texas at a later date.

Funeral services for Marie Ralph of Salem, age 62 will be held Thursday at 1:00 at the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be private. Memorials may be made to Project Win. All arrangements under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
