The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Thursday morning in the Dent County Courthouse. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams was in to get signatures for the budgeted quarterly transfer of $20,750 total to the Agency on Aging, SMTS and the Salem Nutrition Center. the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5220, 5180 and 5610, while materials would be hauled to county road 6460 and it would also have grading done. Purcell went on to say that brush was being cut on Dent County Road 5170, tree limbs were being trimmed on county road 5070, and a man would be hauling granite chips for chip and seal work. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that grading would be done on Dent County Road 2590 and brush would be cut on county road 3220. He went on to say that he had a man screening brown rock and a man hauling granite chips. Larson pointed out that relative to road repairs, such as chip and seal, citizens should realize that sometimes the crews temporarily run out of materials, such as oil for the dura-patcher, and if the Commission says it’s going to make a repair, the work will be completed. Assistant Dent County Clerk Crystal Pilkington said that bills were being approved. Sheriff Rick Stallings and representatives of the Jail Committee were in attendance for the opening of the Requests for Architectural Qualifications. Qualifications were received from the Goldberg Group Architects of St. Joseph, Missouri; HMN Architects of Overland Park, Kansas; Shive Hattery-Nform, of Des Moines, Iowa and Springfield, Missour; HTK Architects of Overland Park, Kansas; and Trainer Architects of St. Louis. The Commissioners, Sheriff Stallings and the Jail Committee will review the qualifications and meet to discuss them at 11:00 on June 18th during the regular Commissioners meeting. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles expressed thanks to the Jail Committee for their continuing work on the issue. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 in the Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Dent County Sheriff's Office released their reports. On Tuesday, June 2nd at 8:50 in the morning, a deputy responded to the 15000 block of Highway 32 West for a report of burglary and theft of a vehicle. Upon arrival it was discovered that a 62-year old male of Salem was the reported victim. He stated that he had received a phone call about his truck being seen broke down on Kimble Road in Texas County. A description of the suspect seen driving the truck was given. After going and checking his building, he found that his business had been broke into and his work truck and approximately $10,000 dollars worth of copper and tools had been stolen. Total value of items stolen was approximately $30,000. Deputies started working on the investigation and with the help of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Texas County Sheriff's Office and the Phelps County Sheriff's Office began to develop leads and suspect information. Around 3:00 that afternoon, two individuals from Texas County were arrested in Rolla after selling some of the copper that was stolen during the break in. A search warrant was served on a residence north of Licking in Texas County around 10:00 pm. Officers located numerous items from the burglary in a shed along with a clandestine methamphetamine lab. While searching the residence, another male was located hiding in the closet of a back bedroom. He is identified as 21-year old Robert J. Owens of Licking. The stolen vehicle was found on a logging road approximately ½ mile from the residence. As a result of this investigation, Robert J. Owens, 52-year old Lisa Dodd of Licking and 42-year old Paul Dodd of Licking were arrested and are currently being held on $15,000 cash only bonds. The above information is just a mere accusation, and is not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of any charge must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
