The Salem Farmers’ Market is pleased to announce some exciting new changes for this year’s market that will go into effect this Saturday. A new Double SNAP Program encourages healthy food choices by matching every $1 Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) funds spent at the Salem Farmer’s Market up to a maximum of $10 per market visit. When you spend $10 from your SNAP Card, you will be given matching money in the form of wooden tokens to be used at the market. Established USDA rules regarding the types of food that may be purchased with these benefits will remain in place. The Double SNAP program is an incentive program with two goals: to help low-income families access fresh, healthy foods, AND to support local producers.   Local college student and Salem R-80 graduate, Kate Hodges will administer the program. Also new this year will be the acceptance of credit and debit card transaction to purchase fresh produce locally grown in Missouri. Funding for this program is being provided by a Missouri Foundation for Health Community Wellness grant and administered by Healthy Dent County. The Salem Farmers Market is a volunteer-run, seasonal market that operates under the direction of the Salem Area Community Betterment Association. It is located at 200 South Main Street, behind the Visitor’s Center. Market hours are Tuesdays from 3:00 - 6:00 pm and Saturdays from 7:30 in the morning to 12 noon from May to October.

With warmer weather upon us, it is prime time for camping, floating, boating, and enjoying summer programs at Ozark National Scenic Riverways. Since April 15th, the campgrounds at Ozark National Scenic Riverways have returned to regular operation throughout the park.  Restroom and shower facilities in campgrounds will be open as usual, and water/sewer hook-ups will be available at electric campsites. Camping rates for 2015 are: Basic Family Campsites (limit 6 people) - $16 per night; Electric Campsites (limit 6 people) - $19 per night; Cluster Campsites (7-20 people) - $35 per night; Group Campsites (15-45 people) - $100 per night; and Backcountry camping - $5 per night. Reserving your favorite campsite in the park’s developed campgrounds is highly recommended during the busy summer months to ensure availability; however, there are plenty of walk-in campsites at all of our locations as well. To reserve campsites in the developed campgrounds call (877) 444-6777 or reserve online at www.recreation.gov. A $3.00 per night reservation fee is added to the camping fee when you use the reservation service. Please note that a backcountry camping fee will be instated at the Blue Spring campground on the Jacks Fork River this season, following upgrades to the camping area several years ago. Park visitor centers at the Van Buren Headquarters, Alley Spring, and Round Spring have resumed daily operations.  Evening campfire programs will be held on Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:30 p.m. every weekend through Labor Day weekend at Big Spring, Alley Spring, Round Spring, and Pulltite campgrounds. Daily cave tours at Round Spring Cave have resumed with tours at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. daily. Tickets for cave tours are $5 each, and space is limited to 15 participants for each tour. Tickets are available on a first come-first served basis at the Round Spring Visitor Center, 30 minutes prior to each tour. For more information, visit the park’s Facebook page, the park’s website at www.nps.gov/ozar or phone (573) 323-4236.

Mark Reynolds had the only RBI of the night to back a stellar outing from Lance Lynn as the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 1-0 on Tuesday. Lynn (4-4) was brilliant in his outing, scattering five hits and striking out five in 7 2/3 scoreless innings. Matt Holliday had his streak of reaching base safely to begin the season halted at 45 games after he was ejected in an 0-for-3 effort. The streak was the fifth longest to begin a season in MLB history and his 47 straight games dating back to last season was eight off Stan Musial's club record set in 1943. After getting blanked 1-0 in the series opener, St. Louis got on the board with one in the second. Randal Grichuk doubled with one out and Reynolds singled two batters later for a 1-0 lead. Lynn, meanwhile, needed just that as he limited just two Brewers to reach second through seven innings. The Cardinals will play Milwaukee today at 11:50 on KSMO Radio.

Michael Brantley's eighth-inning single knocked in the deciding run as the Cleveland Indians came through with a somewhat controversial 2-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals. Brantley's two-out hit off Wade Davis came shortly after Jose Ramirez was ruled safe on a potential double-play grounder, with the close call upheld following an unsuccessful challenge from the Royals. The Royals will play Cleveland tonight at 7:10.

Five members of the defending champion Kansas City Royals remain front-runners for starting positions in the latest American League All-Star balloting release. Catcher Salvador Perez has collected the most votes among AL players with 2,681,003, with third baseman Mike Moustakas, shortstop Alcides Escobar and outfielder Lorenzo Cain also still on top at their respective positions.
