A fire occurred at the Bigos Mexican Restaurant Saturday night that caused damage to the roof. It was a reported that the fire was electrical in nature, but no official report has been released from the Dent County Fire Protection District. According to Bigos Facebook page, they expect to reopen the middle of this week.

An accident occurred at 6:50 Thursday evening in Dent County on Dent County Road 2340 about eight miles west of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 2002 Suzuki Z50 dirt bike driven by 33-year old Phillip White of Salem was traveling northbound and was jumping dirt embankments on private property. When the dirt bike landed, it collided with a dirt embankment ejecting White. White suffered some injuries, but the exact injury information was not released. The dirt bike sustained no damage and was left at the residence.

On Thursday, May 28th at 10:47 in the evening, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested 36-year old Melissa Phillips of Salem on a felony warrant from Phelps County for burglary as well as on a felony arrant from Benton County for failure to appear on a burglary charge. She was also charged with a misdemeanor warrant from Pulaski county for passing a bad check. Phillips is being held in the Phelps County jail on no bond.

Captain James W. Remillard commanding officer of Troop I, Rolla announces the 2015 Memorial Day Weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop I area. Troopers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) during the holiday weekend. As an added enforcement effort, Troop I officers also conducted a 20-Mile Trooper operation on Interstate 44. Troopers investigated 21 traffic crashes that caused two injuries and zero fatalities. The 2015 Memorial Day holiday weekend counting period was from 6:00 pm on Friday, May 22nd and went through 11:59 pm on Monday, May 25th. Enforcement totals included 21 motor vehicle crashes investigated, there were no fatalities, two injuries, 358 summons for speeding, 356 summons for seat belt violations, five summons for child restraint violations and 161 other traffic related violations. Enforcement also included nine arrests for driving while intoxicated and 26 arrests for drugs. There were 968 warnings issued and 266 motorists were assisted.

Following a public hearing on proposed sewer rates starting at 6:30 tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers at 202 North Washington, the City of Salem Board of Aldermen will conduct their regular meeting beginning at 7:00 pm. After approval of the agenda, City Attorney William Camm Seay will report on the public hearing held prior to the Alderman meeting. In unfinished business, the Utility Committee has made recommendations to the Board on proposed water and sewer rates. The Board will discuss the proposed rates and make a decision concerning the Utility Committee’s recommendations. City Administrator Ray Walden will update the Board on current and future projects and discuss items concerning the City of Salem, followed by a report by Mayor J.J. Tune. During new and miscellaneous business, City Clerk Mary Happel will update the Board on the law concerning video conferencing and whether the Board would be interested in video conferencing. The Board will then vote to go into closed session for the purpose of discussing contracts and personnel. The public hearing and regular meeting are both open to the public.

Route TT in Reynolds County will be reduced to one lane as the Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform edge rut repairs. This section of roadway is located from Route KK to Highway 72. Weather permitting work will take place Tuesday, June 2nd from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.

The Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors will conduct their June meeting on Tuesday, June 2nd at the fire station beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the agenda and the minutes from the previous meeting, the Board will review a financial report and approve bills. The Board will then conduct a review of their calendar and the monthly reimbursement report. The Board will address any old or new

business, followed by any reports and then set their next meeting for Tuesday, July 7th at the fire station beginning at 6:00 pm. The June meeting of the Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors is open to the public.

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will hold a public auction of various used Department vehicles and equipment on Saturday, June 6, starting at 10 a.m. at its Salem Maintenance Center located at the junction of Highway 72 and Highway 32 in Salem. The auction will feature boats, vehicles, trailers, ATVs, farm equipment, outboard motors, heavy equipment, shop equipment, lawn-care equipment, cameras, office items, and other items. Those interested can view the auction items on Friday, June 5, at the Salem Maintenance Center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pre-registration will be held on June 5 is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registration is the day of the sale and it begins at 7:30 a.m. Cash, check, and credit/debit cards will be accepted. As required by state statute, MDC charges a convenience fee to all customers who pay by credit or debit card. Carlos Martinez pitched seven strong innings as the St. Louis Cardinals grabbed a 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in a rubber match of a three-game series. Martinez (5-2) allowed just one hit and walked three while striking out eight. Martinez hasn't allowed a run in his past three starts, spanning 20 1/3 innings. Jhonny Peralta hit a two-run homer and drove in three for the Cardinals, who have won six of their last seven. Trevor Rosenthal pitched around a pair of two-out walks in the ninth for his 15th save of the season. St. Louis hosts Milwaukee for three games starting tonight at 6:15 on KSMO Radio.

The windy conditions at Wrigley Field helped David Ross plate the game-winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning of the Chicago Cubs' 2-1 win over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday. Shortstop Alcides Escobar retreated on the ball but with his back turned, misplayed it in the wind as the game-winning run scored. Alex Gordon had three of Kansas City's four hits, as the Royals lost for the fifth time in six games. They will be off today.

Funeral services for Daniel Hunter of Rolla, age 30, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Interment will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Children of Daniel Hunter.

Memorial services for Carol Nadine Fraley of Salem, age 81, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time.

Memorial services for Donald Ray Swindell of Salem, age 60, will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem.
