The Dent County Sheriff’s Office released reports involving theft, a traffic stop and an investigation. On Monday, May 18th, deputies responded to the 100 block of Independence Drive for a report of a theft. Upon arrival, the deputies discovered that a 36-year old female of Salem was the reported victim of a theft of her Missouri State Tax Return. She stated that a person or persons cashed her check at a local bank. Suspect information was obtained and this investigation is ongoing. On Friday, May 22nd, during a traffic stop in the 1000 block of West Highway 32, a search revealed there was methamphetamine present as well as Tramadol (a Schedule IV controlled substance), Phentermine (a Schedule IV controlled substance), methamphetamine paraphernalia and marijuana. As a result, 25-year old Ashlee Terrill of Salem was arrested and placed into the Dent County Jail on a 24-hour hold pending the issuance of an arrest warrant. A probable cause statement was submitted to the Dent County Prosecuting Attorney's Office. On Sunday, May 24th, a short-term narcotics investigation was conducted in conjunction with the Missouri State Highway Patrol and Salem Police Department. The information received from the Missouri State Highway Patrol led Dent County law enforcement to the 400 block of West Seventh in Salem. During a consent search at the location, approximately 42 grams of marijuana and items used in the distribution of Marijuana were located in the residence. A large portion of the marijuana found was packaged for sale. As a result of the items found, 26-year old Christopher Brown of Salem was arrested. Brown is currently being held in the Dent County Jail with a bond of $50,000 cash only. Anyone with any information regarding the theft of the tax return check is asked to contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Office by calling 729-3241.

The Dent County Health Center Board of Trustees met Monday, May 18th for the regular meeting. Jane Jadwin reported the audit for the Health Center would begin in a couple months with the firm Maloney, Wright and Robbins. She also stated staff training would occur on June 12th and the office would be closing at noon that day. It was reported that in the last month there have been several reports of illnesses related to tick bites. It was reported the Health Center has several vaccines available at no charge to the public while supplies last. Those include the Tdap (tetanus) vaccine, meningitis vaccine and HPV vaccine. Pre-school immunizations are also in progress at this time. For more information, call the office between 8:00 in the morning and 4:30 in the afternoon weekdays at 729-3106. In other news, Jadwin and Kendra Mobray will be attending a mandatory Emergency Planning conference on June 17th and 18th in Columbia. The Department of Health has requested that all local health agencies enter into a mutual aid agreement to increase response efforts to all counties in the event of a disaster. This will also ensure that there will be reimbursement in the case of a federally declared emergency. This request was approved. It was reported the Health Center will again receive $40,000 from the state for health related programs in Dent County. Jadwin and Roma Jones are currently working with the Dent County Healthy Communities in regards to smoking cessation efforts. It is their hope to increase the number of food service facilities in Dent County be smoke-free, plus they are promoting World Smoke-Free Day on Sunday, May 31st. The next regular meeting of the Dent County Health Board will be June 15th.

The St. Louis Blues and head coach Ken Hitchcock have agreed to a one-year contract for the 2015-16 season. Hitchcock has been the Blues' head coach since Nov. 7, 2011 and has guided the club to four straight postseason appearances, but his status had been in question following a first-round playoff loss to Minnesota earlier this spring. Hitchcock has a record of 175-79-27 during his tenure in St. Louis and was honored as the NHL's top coach in his first season with the Blues in 2011-12. The St. Louis Blues announced Wednesday the hiring of longtime NHL netminder Martin Brodeur as assistant general manager. The Blues and Brodeur agreed upon a three-year contract. Brodeur was serving as senior advisor to general manager Doug Armstrong after retiring from the NHL in January.

Jhonny Peralta drove in two runs and Randall Grichuk added a solo homer while knocking in a pair in St. Louis' 6-4 triumph over Arizona in the middle test of a three-game series. Matt Holliday contributed two hits and an RBI for the Cardinals, with Yadier Molina also driving in a run. Jaime Garcia (1-1) worked six innings for the win, allowing four runs -- three earned -- on eight hits with five strikeouts. Seth Maness recorded the final out of the contest to earn his third save. The Red Birds play the Diamondbacks tonight at 7:15 on KSMO.

Adam Warren pitched 6 1/3 strong innings and Mark Teixeira knocked in four runs to lead the New York Yankees to a 5-1 win over the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night.Kansas City's only run on Tuesday came on Paulo Orlando's first major league homer, a solo shot off Warren in the sixth inning. The Royals will play the New York Yankees today at 12:05.

Funeral services for David Capps of Salem, age 74, will be held Thursday at 2:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 with an Odd Fellows Service at 7:00. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Second Baptist Church of Salem.

Funeral services Melba Corrine (Rennie) Washausen of Salem, age 78, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Project Win.

Funeral services for Homer Lee Mounce of St. James, age 93, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Adams Cemetery with Military Honors.

A Joint Memorial service for sisters, Martha Hamblin, age 94 and Virginia Covington, age 99, will be held Saturday morning, May 30th at 11:00 at the Salem United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Memorial service for Frederick Conyk of Salem, age 88, will be held Saturday, May 30th at 1:30 at the Salem Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary of Salem.

Funeral services for Daniel Hunter of Rolla, age 30, will be held Monday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Children of Daniel Hunter.
