The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Monday morning at the courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said grading would be done and materials added to Dent County Road 5420 and 6670 while just materials would be added to county road 6640. Purcell stated brush would be cut on Dent County Road 5490 and there were no damages reported from the weekend storms. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson stated grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2330, 2332, 4435 and 4437 while materials would be added to county roads 2380, 3090 and 3130. Larson went on to report that brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 2090 and 3173, a man would be going to Springfield for a load of oil for the Dura-Patcher to repair chip and seal roads, and a man would be screening brown rock. Larson indicated the roads to the cemeteries were all being taken care of for the Memorial Day weekend. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that a SEMA workshop for faith-based organizations for the Region I Emergency Management District would be held on June 1st at the Green Tree Christian Church in Rolla from 1:00 to 5:00 at 800 Green Tree Lane. Pre-registration must be made for the workshop and those interested should call SEMA Region I Director Brett Hendrix at 573-680-9815 to get the link to register online. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

An accident occurred at 2:00 Sunday afternoon in Shannon County on Highway CC about 15 miles south of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 1999 Ford Expedition driven by 62-year old Kevin Richards of Salem was traveling eastbound, ran off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree. Richards suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Salem Memorial Hospital. He was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford Expedition was totaled and removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Office released reports. On Wednesday, May 13th, deputies conducted a traffic stop on Craig Industrial Drive when the driver of a vehicle was stopped for an equipment violation and expired license plates. As a result of this stop the driver, 23-year old Tiffany L. Rostron of Fredricktown was arrested for driving while having his license suspended. Rostron was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. On Friday, May 15th at 4:25 in the afternoon, a traffic stop was conducted in the 2200 block of Dent County Road 5080 for a moving violation. Upon making contact, the driver was requested to exit the vehicle. Consent to search was granted. Upon searching the vehicle a glass smoking device was located. As a result of the search, Damon Stiff of Salem was arrested for possession of the drug paraphernalia. Stiff was transported to the Sheriff's Office and was later released on a summons to appear in court. Later that day at 5:20 pm, deputies responded to the 4000 block of County Road 2050 for the report of a burglary that had occurred. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with a female who advised deputies her house had been broken into and items taken from the residence. The deputies collected evidence from the scene and are investigating this case. On Saturday morning, May 16th at 7:20, deputies were processing and booking an inmate into the jail. During the dress out procedure, David Spencer, attempted to hide tobacco in his jail issued shoes. A deputy noticed Spencer place his foot back to hide the cigarette. Upon noticing the action, both deputies were able to locate the cigarette and secure it. Spencer is currently incarcerated on separate charges. Anyone with any information regarding the burglary report is asked to contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Office by calling 729-3241.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will conduct their May meeting tonight in the hospital library beginning at 6:00 pm. After the approval of the agenda and the minutes from the April 21st meeting, the board will be presented the summary of operations and statistics reports for April, followed by the nursing and ancillary reports. Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor will then update the Board with an auxiliary report, hospital activity calendar and legislative issues followed by the Chief of Staff report. In old business will the strategic planning goals update for 2011, the Community Health Needs Assessment, the Ozark independent Health Alliance (OIHA) and a finance committee report. During new business the Board will address purchases made for the hospital. The May meeting of the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors is open to the public.

The Salem R-80 Board of Education will conduct their May meeting tonight at the boardroom beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the agenda and communications, Superintendent Steve Carvajal will update the Board on the end of year assessments. Principals from the respective buildings will give their reports involving events at each school. In new business, the Board will consider the TCRC renewal, MSBA policies and procedures 2015A updates, a revision of Board Policy GCBA-R1 andJF-R4, and also consider a bus purchase. The Board will then approve the Professional Development Plan 2015/2016, address a preliminary budget and resignations. The Board will then vote to go into closed session for the purpose of discussing personnel and students. The May meeting of the Salem R-80 Board of Education is open to the public.

The Salem Athletic banquet for Spring Sports will be held Wednesday at 6:30 at the high school cafeteria. The banquet will honor athletes from the track teams, baseball, golf and tennis.

John Mayberry's RBI single in the 14th inning lifted the New York Mets to a 2-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in the opener of a four-game set on Monday. Jason Heyward brought in the Cardinals' lone run and Yadier Molina finished with three hits and a walk. Starter John Lackey surrendered just one run on three hits with no walks and six strikeouts over seven frames. The Cardinals will play the Mets tonight at 5:15 on KSMO Radio with the game starting at 6:00.

The Kansas City Royals had the day off Monday and will host a three game series starting tonight with the Cincinnati Reds at Kaufmann Stadium.

Memorial services for Toni S. Charland of Salem, age 60, will be held this evening at 7:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 5:00 until service time. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 99 Auxiliary.
