The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported grading would be done on a number of county roads including Dent County Roads 2450, 2470, 2490, 4185, 4235, 5060, 5090, 5130, 5237 and 5600. He said brush would be cut on county road 5400 and a man went to Springfield to get oil for the Durapatch machine to do chip and seal repair. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson indicated that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2120 and 3180, while materials would be added and grading done on county road 4330. Larson also said materials would be added to county roads 2070 and 4300, and brush was also going to be cut on Dent County Road 2070. He went on to say a man would be screening brown rock at the shed. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that commissioners attended the annual meeting of the Health Insurance Consortium in Springfield and he stated the expenses to premium ratio is still very good for the consortium. He did say that new reports would need to be filed this year in accordance with ACA regulations. The county received a request from Crawford County resident Pete Kraus regarding getting a Quit-Claim deed from the county to relinquish any interest they may have on the old railroad easement right-of-way that is on his property. The commission approved signing the Quit-Claim that was drawn up by County Prosecutor Andrew Curley. The commissioners were also going to sign Ordinance #2-2015 once it was prepared and forward a copy of it to the Missouri Department of Revenue about the passage of the Road and Bridge Department Sales Tax. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams presented the CART taxes received this month and they came in at $52,884.60. Last year, the April receipts were $50,240.96. So far year-to-date, the CART taxes are up $12,087.84 which is an increase of 6.01% over 2014 for the same time period. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that during this last Municipal Election, she had 170 address changes. She said a new voter registration card would be sent out near the end of the year for voters to make sure the information is correct. She also said she would mail ordinance #2-2015 to the Missouri Department of Revenue once it is signed. Sheriff Rick Stallings came in to give the commission an update on the current jail numbers and invite them to a meeting to discuss the jail situation with the steering committee. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at the courthouse and that meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Community Acoustic Jam will be held Saturday night at 6:30 at the Ozark Natural and Cultural Resource Center. Musicians and listeners of all ages are welcome to come. Cameron Howard cracked a grand slam in the first inning and then added another RBI single in the 5th inning to help lead the Salem Baseball Tigers to a 16-6 five-inning slugfest over the Willow Springs Bears. Salem jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning only to watch the Bears tie the game in the third inning, but Salem scored three runs in the 4th inning and added seven more in the 5th inning for the win. Kobe Mead finished 3-3 with three runs scored and an RBI while Dalton Cook had two hits and an RBI as well. Salem banged out 12 hits and was helped out by nine Willow Spring errors. Salem is 10-5 on the year and 4-1 in the SCA and is scheduled to play a makeup game this afternoon at Potosi at 4:30. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com.

Michael Wacha outdueled Max Scherzer by twirling seven outstanding innings, and Matt Adams singled in the deciding run in the 6th inning for a St. Louis Cardinals' 4-1 win over the Washington Nationals. Wacha (3-0) held Washington to a run on five hits and struck out six to win his third consecutive start and lead the Cardinals to a seventh victory in eight games. Matt Carpenter and Jason Heyward each finished 2-for-4 for St. Louis. The Cards will be in Milwaukee for a three game series starting tonight at 6:15 or right after Salem baseball on KSMO.

Eric Hosmer's two-out double in the top of the 13th inning lifted the Kansas City Royals to a 3-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox in a game marred by a benches-clearing brawl earlier on where five players were ejected. Hosmer and Moustakas both ended 3-for-5 while Kendrys Morales knocked in two runs with a first-inning single. The Royals and White Sox will play again this weekend.

The St. Louis Blues will try to take the series lead for the first time as they host the Minnesota Wild tonight at 8:30. The series is tied at two games each. Funeral services for Warren Samuel Beck of Summersville, age 91, will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.

Funeral services for Ruthine Chapman of Salem, age 70, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until service time Saturday. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.

Funeral services for Helen Peterek of Salem, age 90, will be held Sunday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be Saturday evening from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Peterek Family Cemetery. Memorials are may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Funeral services for Norma Jean Quick of Salem, age 77, will be held Monday morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Project Win. 

Funeral services for Peter Ernest August Hahn of Rolla, age 83, will be held Tuesday at 10:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Phelps County Animal Shelter or Delbert Day Cancer Center.

Funeral services for Virginia “Ginnie” Carrolla of Rolla, age 72, will be held Tuesday at 1:00 at the Ridgeview Christian Church in Rolla. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Christian Campus Fellowship. Arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

Funeral services for Murrell Peeples Jr. of Rolla, age 73, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the St. James City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Phelps County Animal Shelter.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date for Bruce Eugene Stites, age 62. Arrangements under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
