An accident occurred at 9:05 Saturday morning in Phelps County on Highway FF about a mile and a half east of Edgar Springs. According to the highway patrol report, a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by 17-year old Dillon Walker of Salem was traveling east on Highway FF. The pickup ran off the right side of the roadway where it struck a driveway culvert and some trees. Walker suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center by the Phelps County ambulance. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chevrolet pickup was totaled and removed from the scene by Lucas Garage of Edgar Springs.

The Dent County Commission met for their regular meeting. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles was not in attendance due to a previous commitment. District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell was selected as the acting Presiding Commissioner. In the road report for District 1, Purcell said the entire work crew would be out patching potholes on the chip and seal roads. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that materials would be hauled to Dent County Roads 2053 and 3135. He also said crews would be servicing the Cat Loader 924, changing the blade on grader 31 and John Deere would be sending a representative to check out an issue on tractor #6. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said payroll would be approved. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and that meeting will be open to the public.

An accident occurred at 8:35 Monday morning in Phelps County on Highway 68 about a mile north of St. James. According to the highway patrol report, a 2013 Dodge Dart driven by 28-year old Nicole Gooch of St. James was traveling westbound on Highway 68. The Dodge was slowing to make a left turn and was struck from behind by a 2007 Chevrolet 3500 pickup driven by 23-year old Morgan Adams of St. James. Gooch suffered moderate injuries while Adams suffered minor injuries. Both were transported by ambulance to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. Gooch was the only one wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Dodge Dart sustained extensive damage and was towed by Spurgeons Towing. The Dodge pickup sustained moderate damage and was removed by the owner. 

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will conduct their monthly meeting tonight in the hospital library beginning at 6:00 pm. After the Board of Director Swear-In and approval of the minutes from the meeting held March 17th, will the summary of operations and statistics reports for March, followed by the nursing and ancillary reports. Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor will then update the Board with the hospital activity calendar and legislative issues followed by the patient satisfaction survey results for the hospital ER and inpatient as well as the Rural Health Clinics. In old business, there will be a 2011 strategic planning goals update, the Board will address the Community Health Needs Assessment, the Ozark Independent Health Alliance (OIHA) and there will be a finance committee report. During new business the Board will address purchases made for the hospital. The monthly meeting of the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors is open to the public.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their report from a March 23rd investigation where deputies responded to a call to the 1300 Block of Highway 32 West. The caller had reported his 1988 Ford F-350 and other tools as being stolen from his property and barn. Deputies recovered the stolen truck from near the power lines the next day off of Dent County Road 4080. The investigation led deputies to several residences in Dent and Texas County. In a combined effort with the Texas County Sheriff’s Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol, nine persons were arrested on unrelated charges. Multiple houses and properties were searched. While continuing the investigation, deputies recovered a 2011 Kawasaki Mule. The Mule had been reported stolen in Dent County on February 16th. Charged, as a result of the investigation is 21-year-old Cody D. Martin of Salem. He has been charged with a Class C Felony Burglary in the 2nd degree, as well as a Class C Felony for theft, and a Class C Felony for stealing a motor vehicle. Martin is currently being held in the Texas County Jail on felony charges of resisting arrest. This information is just an accusation, and is not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of any charge must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence. The Salem Baseball Tigers erupted for six runs in the 4th inning on three hits, the biggest was a three run double by Logan Conaway, as they improve to 8-5 on the year and 3-1 in the SCA with a 12-4 win over Cabool Monday. Dalton Cook went 1-3 with two RBI and Jon Arzt went 2-4 and had an RBI. Kory Ramsey went the distance for the win surrendering 11 hits and striking out seven. The Tigers will be at St. Clair to face the Bulldogs today at 4:30. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com.

The Salem Tiger Golf Team will be in Houston today for a match beginning at 4:00.

The St. Louis Cardinals will be back in action tonight as they travel to Washington, DC to face the Nationals. Game time is set for 6:00 and KSMO will join the game in progress after Salem Baseball.

Zach Parise and Jason Pominville each scored in the second period and the Minnesota Wild totally dominated the Blues in a 3-0 shutout win in St. Paul to take a 2-1 series lead over St. Louis. Jake Allen made 21 saves for Central Division champs, who will look to rebound in Game 4 on Wednesday which starts at 8:30. KSMO will stream the game starting at 8:00 before moving the game to the KSMO after Cards baseball.

Kendrys Morales and Paulo Orlando each knocked in two runs as the Kansas City Royals beat the Minnesota Twins 7-1 in the opener of a three-game series. Salvador Perez went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for the Royals, who improved to 10-3 on the young season.

Funeral services for Pauline E. Hopkins of Potosi, age 100, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Viburnum Chapel. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Emanuel United Methodist Church of Viburnum.

Funeral services for Cleatis Wisdom of Steelville, age 88, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Crossville Cemetery in Bunker with Full Military Services.
