missourinetAn accident happened in Phelps County on Phelps County Road 8140 Sunday night at 11:38 about a mile east of Doolittle that left a Rolla man with injuries. According to the highway patrol report, a 2014 Chevy Cruze driven eastbound by 28-year old Kraig Koger of Rolla, crossed the center of the roadway, traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck an embankment. The Cruze then became airborne, struck the ground again and overturned. The Cruze ended up coming to a rest on its tires, facing north. Koger was arrested for driving while being intoxicated and for failing to drive on the right half of the roadway of sufficient width involving an accident. Koger suffered moderate injuries and was released to ambulance personnel to be taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Cruze was totaled and was removed from the scene by C&C Towing.

The Salem Police Department released reports involving shoplifters, and a traffic violation. On Thursday, April 2nd at 3:25 in the afternoon, an officer transported a 40-year old female of Sullivan from the Phelps County jail to the Dent County jail in lieu of an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. She was served the warrant and incarcerated pending a court appearance. On Friday, April 3rd at 4:31 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 33-year old Salem male for stealing merchandise valued at $19.98. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. At 5:31 that afternoon, an officer responded to Walmart in reference to another shoplifter. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 36-year old Salem female for stealing multiple items. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Later that night at 11:48, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. That investigation led to the arrest of a 30-year old Salem male for driving while intoxicated. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Sunday, April 5th at 2:00 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter. This Investigation revealed video of a male suspect taking items valued at $169.94 and leaving the store. The report is still under investigation. The Dent County Fire Protection District released reports for the first week of April. On Wednesday, April 1st a call came in at 10:25 in the morning for a report of a natural cover fire on Dent County Road 4220 on property owned by Donnie Gray. Upon arrival, five firefighters found approximately one acre of light grass and woodland on fire. The firefighters began extinguishing the fire and establishing a fire line. The scene was under control at 11:19 that morning. On Friday, April 3rd a call came in at 3:58 in the afternoon for a rollover vehicle crash with unknown injuries on County Road 5015 and County Road 5010. A total of six fire fighters responded and were advised by the Dent County Sheriff’s Department to disregard due to the incident being unfounded. On Monday, April 6th a call came in at 4:54 in the afternoon for a vehicle accident cleanup on Highway 72 and Dent County Road 3200. A total of eight fire fighters responded to provide manpower. All units were back in service at 5:48 that afternoon. On Tuesday, April 7th a call came in at 10:36 for a building fire on Dent County Road 3295 at property owned by Barry and Sandra Duncan. A total of eleven fire fighters responded and extinguished the fire. The Lenox Rural Fire Department provided mutual aid. All units were back in service at 2:00 am the next morning.

The Salem Tigers traveled to Ava Monday to face the Bears in SCA play. Salem jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning on singles by Kory Ramsey and Cameron Howard, then retook the lead in the 6th inning on a single by Nate Bray and led 3-2 going into the bottom of the 6th inning. But the Ava Bears scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the 6th inning to win, 7-3. Salem falls to 4-4 on the year and 1-1 in the SCA. The Tigers will host Houston on Thursday at 4:30.

The Salem Golf Team will participate in the Seymore Golf Invitational this morning at 9:00 and the Salem Track Teams will host the Salem Invitational today at 3:00.

The Salem Tiger Tennis Team defeated Rolla 8-1 to move to 5-1 on the year. Salem will play at Willow Springs today at 4:00 pm.

Carlos Gomez had two hits, including an RBI double, helping the Milwaukee Brewers beat Adam Wainwright and the St. Louis Cardinals 5-4 on Monday in the opener of a three-game series. Wainwright (1-1) pitched on seven days' rest and yielded five runs -- three earned -- on eight hits and a walk, striking out four. Jhonny Peralta had two hits and two RBI for the Cardinals who will be off today before facing Milwaukee again Wednesday night.

Lorenzo Cain had two RBI on his 29th birthday and the unbeaten Kansas City Royals topped Minnesota 12-3, spoiling the Twins' home opener. Eric Hosmer and Alcides Escobar also knocked in two runs for the Royals, who at 7-0, are two wins shy of matching the best start in team history. Kansas City starter Danny Duffy (1-0) gave up three runs on six hits in 6 1/3 innings. Kansas City relievers Ryan Madson and Franklin Morales combined to allow only one hit over the final 2 2/3 innings. The Royals will also have the day off today.

Funeral services for Eugene “Doyle” Summers of Salem, age 79, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Green Forest Cemetery.

Visitation for John Wickam of Salem, age 77, will be held today from 5:00 to 7:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. There will be no service.

Funeral services for Walfriede Maria Magdelena “Wally” Stroburg of Salem, age 88, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Project Win.

Funeral services for Wayne Davidson of Salem, age 83, will be held Thursday at 1:00 at the Black Oak Baptist Church in Marshfield. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in the Black Oak Cemetery in Marshfield.

Graveside services for Arzetta (Miller) Mathenia of Licking, MO, age 62, will be held Friday, April 17th at the North Lawn Cemetery in Salem following the visitation Friday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Fox Funeral Home.  All arrangements are under direction of Fox Funeral Home, Licking, MO.  

Graveside services for Virginia Marie Nash of Salem, age 88, will be held Friday at 2:00 at the Cedar Grove Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem.

Interment at the Green Forest Cemetery for Rhonda Kay Hickman of Fenton, age 50, will be held at a later date. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary of Salem.
