missourinetAn accident happened at 4:55 Monday afternoon in Dent County on Highway 72 at County Road 3200 about five miles northwest of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox driven by 28-year old Summer Headrick of Salem was attempting to make a left turn and was struck from behind by a 1998 Nissan Sentra driven by 18-year old Christopher Baker of Salem. Baker suffered moderate injuries and was taken by Salem EMS to the Phelps County Hospital. A passenger in the Nissan, 16-year old Taylor Helvey of Salem suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Salem Hospital by Salem EMS. Headrick was the only one wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Missouri State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Dent County Sheriff's Office, the Dent County Fire Protection District, Salem EMS and Air Evac.

The Salem Police Department released reports for Friday, March 27th involving an assault, a disturbance, a traffic violation, and a narcotics investigation. On Friday, March 27th at 2:51 in the early morning, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 800 block of East Third in reference to an assault. The investigation of the report revealed that a 43-year old Salem male had assaulted a 35-year old Salem female. Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect who was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Early that afternoon at 1:00, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of East Roosevelt in reference to a disturbance. That investigation led to the arrest of a 46-year old Salem male on an active arrest warrant from Missouri Probation and Parole. He was incarcerated pending a court appearance. Then at 4:29 that afternoon, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 36-year old Salem female for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, and a 37-year old Salem male for possession of methamphetamine, tampering with evidence and false impersonation. The two suspects were incarcerated pending the application for warrants. That same afternoon at 4:30, the Salem Police Department and the Division of Drug and Crime Control conducted a narcotics investigation at a residence in the 600 block of South Jackson. The investigation revealed a large-scale methamphetamine production facility. Further investigation led to the arrest of a 47-year old Salem male for distribution of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. Later that night at 9:07, an officer transported a 36-year old female of Salem to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, in lieu of a mental commitment order. The Salem Baseball Tigers game with Mountain Grove this afternoon in SCA play has been POSTPONED.  No makeup date has yet been set. Salem enters the game with a 4-3 record and they are 1-0 in the SCA. 

The Salem Tennis Team took first overall in the Salem Invitation held Wednesday at the City Park tennis courts. The Tiger Tennis players were able to capture first in both single brackets and in both doubles brackets. Houston came in 2nd at the invitational. The Tigers are scheduled to be in Mountain View today at 4:00. 

The Salem Golf team will host the Salem Invitational starting at 9:00 this morning, weather permitting.

Starlin Castro's RBI single in the seventh inning snapped a scoreless deadlock and rewarded Jake Arrieta's outstanding performance on the mound in the Cubs' 2-0 triumph over the St. Louis Cardinals. Lance Lynn racked up nine strikeouts in his six plus innings and gave up just two hits in the hard-luck defeat, with his own error rendering one of his two runs surrendered unearned. The Cards are off today.

Lorenzo Cain homered for the fifth time in 44 games against the White Sox, a two-run blast in the bottom of the eighth inning that lifted the Royals to a 7-5 win on Wednesday night. Cain finished with three hits and two runs scored and Eric Hosmer hit a three-run homer off White Sox starter Jose Quintana in Wednesday's win. Wade Davis (1-0) pitched the eighth inning to pick up the win. The Royals will go for the sweep this afternoon at Kaufmann Stadium.

The St. Louis Blues will host the Chicago Blackhawks tonight with a chance to secure home ice advantage through the first two rounds of the playoffs. The game begins at 7:00 and you can hear it on KSMO Radio.

Funeral services for Charles R. Halbrook of Rolla will be held this morning at 10:00 at the First Baptist Church in Rolla. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Rolla or the Alzheimer’s Association. All arrangements are under the direction of the Null and Son Funeral Home in Rolla. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Pearl Jean “Jeanie” Worley of Cherryville, age 66, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Cherryville Baptist Church Cemetery.

Funeral services for Catherine “Kay” Hutchens of Salem, age 75, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Glenna B. Norris Foundation for the Life Sciences. 

Funeral services for Gail E. Curley of Salem, age 52, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from noon until service time. Interment will be in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery.

Funeral services for Donald Ferdinand Isaak of Steelville, age 85, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 Friday. Interment will be in the Redbud Cemetery in Potosi.

Funeral services for Leonard Barton of Union formerly of Salem, age 66, will be held Monday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Monday from 11:00 in the morning until time of the service. Interment will be in the Jadwin Cemetery with full Military Honors. Memorials are suggested to the American Legion Post #99.

Visitation for John Wickam of Salem, age 77, will be held Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. There will be no service.
