missourinetThe Salem Police Department released reports involving a theft investigation resulting in a possession of marijuana and an intoxicated male. On Saturday, March 21st at 1:00 in the early morning, an officer was conducting a theft investigation at a residence in the 300 block of East Third. During the investigation a 48-year old female of Salem was found to be in possession of marijuana. She was taken into custody and issued a summons to appear in court and then was released. On Thursday, March 26th at 3:11 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 300 block of East Third in reference to an intoxicated male that would not leave a residence. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 41-year old Salem male for disorderly conduct. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Anyone with any information regarding any investigation is asked to contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct a meeting tonight at 7:00 at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington. After approval of the agenda and during the hearing of persons, Bill Stack of Stack Financial Services LLC, would like to give a short presentation explaining how the city could quadruple their annual interest income, by making a slight adjustment in how they invest only 10% in an investable fund. Then in bids, the city had requested bid proposals from qualified contractors for the renovation of an existing 75,000 gallon Water Storage Tank and those bids were due March 27th. The city had also requested a cost to rebuild 14 transformers and those will also be presented to the Board by City Administrator Ray Walden. Alderwoman Molly C. Zettel will then report to the Board on the Utility Committee Workshop that was held March 26th. Greg Nash will give a report on the Park Board meeting that was held March 23rd. Walden will then updated the items concerning the city and present City Clerk Mary Happel with a certificate of achievement for 500 hours of professional instruction for the development of City Clerks and Finance Officers. Mayor J.J. Tune will then give his report. During the introduction and reading of bills and resolutions, Bill #3288, an ordinance required in order for Ray Walden to sign the Mutual Aid Agreement with MPUA will be presented. The Board will then vote to go into closed session for the purpose of discussing contracts and personnel. The meeting tonight is open to the public.

At 9:05 at night on March 29th, an accident occurred at Carty Street and Hawkins in Salem. According to the Salem Police report, a pedestrian traveling north on Carty Street was walking in the gutter of the street, while an unknown vehicle was traveling south on Carty Street. The unknown vehicle was about to collide with the pedestrian, the pedestrian observed the vehicle approaching and turned facing south. The vehicle collided with the pedestrian and hit them in the leg. The vehicle stopped and the driver asked if the pedestrian was okay and after the pedestrian stated they were, the driver then left the scene. The pedestrian sustained minor injuries and was transported from the scene by ambulance to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. It is unknown if there was any damage to the vehicle.

Roadwork continues in the KSMO listening area. In Dent County, pavement and drainage improvements continue on Route J between Highway 32 and 72. Work on the side road approaches and entrances will take place this week. Roadside maintenance will take place now through Thursday, April 16th on Route K between Highway 19 and the Shannon County line. In Phelps County, bridge replacement continues on Highway 8 over the Dry Fork Creek just south of St. James. Occasional lane closures are possible during this week. The project is scheduled for completion in the fall. Bridge inspection will take place this week on Route D over the Gasconade River, west of I-44. Captain James W. Remillard, the commanding officer of Troop I, announces that troopers will be conducting special enforcement operations on Interstate 44 during the month of April. Troopers assigned to these operations will place special emphasis on commercial motor vehicles and criminal activity. Interstate 44 is a major traffic artery for the entire United States and runs directly through the heart of Troop I and the counties of Troop I. In support of "The Drive To ZERO Highway Deaths," the Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Watercraft operators shouldensure that everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life And Wear It!!

The Salem Police Department want to remind everyone they will be testing the emergency weather sirens today at 1:30. The monthly test is held the first Monday of every month at 1:30.

The Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors will conduct their April meeting on Tuesday, April 7th at the fire station beginning at 6:00 pm and it is open to the public. After the approval of the agenda and the minutes from their previous meeting, the Board will review a financial report and approve bills. There will be a calendar review as well as the monthly reimbursement report. The Board will then address any old or new business and hear reports before setting their next meeting for May 5th at 6:00.

The Salem Baseball Tigers will host the Mountain View-Liberty Eagles in the first SCA Conference game of the year starting at 4:30. Salem enters the game with a 2-3 record. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com. The game will also be recorded for Fidelity Channel 6

Jake Allen stopped 38 shots and the St. Louis Blues edged the Chicago Blackhawks 2-1 on Sunday to move into first place in the Central Division. David Backes and Olli Jokinen each scored in the second period for the Blues, who have won three straight and leapfrogged Nashville in the division standings. They are one point ahead of the Predators and hold a three-point lead on the Blackhawks with three games remaining for each club. The Blues will host Winnipeg Tuesday night at 7:00.

Adam Wainwright out pitched Jon Lester to spoil the new-look Chicago Cubs' season opener. Wainwright tossed six shutout innings and the Cardinals blanked the Cubs 3-0 to kick off the 2015 MLB season on Sunday night. The 33-year-old Wainwright (1-0) struck out six and scattered five hits. Newcomer Jason Heyward had three hits including a double, and Matt Holliday posted a pair of RBI singles, while Trevor Rosenthal picked up the save with a 1-2-3 ninth, striking out the side. The Cards will be off today and play Chicago Tuesday.

The Kansas City Royals will open their season today against the Chicago White Sox at Kaufmann Stadium.

OBITUARIES     [TOP]

Funeral services Vondel Lee Callahan of Davisville, age 87, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Interment will be in the New Dillard Cemetery.

Funeral services for Virginia Nash of Salem, age 88, are incomplete at this time and are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem.
