The Dent County Commission met for their regular meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that grading would be done on Dent County Road 2480 and patch grading would be done on county road 2440. Purcell said brush would be cut on Dent County Road 4080 plus ditches and culverts would be cleaned out on county road 6150. He went on to say materials would be added to county roads 2490, 5015 and 5510. Purcell did say workers had to work on a low water slab on county road 6460. They were going to repair the damage with existing materials to fill back in around the slab and also remove the debris on and around the slab. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said grading would be done on Dent County Roads 4290 and 4300, while work will be done on Dent County Truck #116 and brown rock will be screened. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles announced there would be no commission meeting on Thursday, July 23rd. He also said the Board of Equalization meeting would be held Monday starting at 1:00. Three people will be addressing the board. At the last regular meeting Monday, President of the Industrial Development Authority, Donald Dodd, asked the commission to approve the current list of IDA board members and appoint Steve Conway to the list. The board approved his request. Sheriff Stallings came in to discuss that some residents in the Smith Subdivision on Dent County Road 6090 are complaining about a lot of trash in the ditch next to their home. The commission has no planning and zoning, so the commission asked the sheriff to visit with the people responsible, or the Dent County Prosecuting Attorney Andrew Curley can write a letter to the owners. Also at the last meeting, the commission decided to take sealed bids on the old Treasurer’s safe located in the courthouse foyer. The bids will be due by July 30th at 10:00. If mailed, bids should be addressed to the Dent County Clerk, 300 North Main Street in Salem; or you can drop them off in her office during normal business hours before 10:00 in the morning on July 30th. The next meeting of the Dent County Commission will be Monday at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
