The Salem Initiative held a follow up meeting Saturday to their first meeting back in the fall at the SBU Campus to give an update on the progress. Jennifer Tune Fenwick networked with the group from New York about the initiative in that they now have their mission statement, articles of incorporation and their bylaws are almost completed. The initiative will then apply for the 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit status to go after funding for those types of grants or awards which could take up to six months. In the meantime, if people want to contribute tax deductible donations, they could make them through the Dent County Foundation of the Ozarks. Group presentations were made on keeping residents in Dent County, education, commercial and industrial development, arts and creative, tourism and also communications that includes improving Internet speeds in Salem and Dent County. All but the Strategy group has met at least once and some groups have met twice, and all have made some progress in collecting information in moving forward. Most of the groups have another meeting scheduled by or in March and if anyone is interested in the initiative or in joining any of the specific groups, please e-mail them info@thesalemintitive.com.
