The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors held their regular meeting Tuesday evening at the hospital. After the audit report from Eddie Marmouget from B K & D, Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor gave the report for the month of September. Pryor stated the hospital had a gain from operations of $68,055 with an excess of revenues over expenses after taxes of $72,203. Inpatient admissions and outpatient registrations were up for the month as well as emergency room visits. The cash flow statement showed that cash actually decreased during the month by $30,139 even though accounts payable decreased by over $22,000. Days in accounts receivable did rise from 40 days to 43 days during the month. The hospital now has cash on hand of 71 days and that is up 13 days from the end of the last fiscal year. Director of Nursing Carol Lacy reported that during the month, there were 887 emergency room visits with an average turnaround time of 124 minutes. Also during the month, there were 187 ambulance runs with 185 patients being assessed, 27 surgery cases, 1,741 outpatient registrations, 175 home health visits, 9,296 lab tests, 1,013 radiological procedures, 170 CT scans, 26 MRI scans, 11 nuclear med scans, 510 rehab treatments, 252 dialysis treatments and 326 clinical visits of which 57 were for cardiology. Lacy gave the In-Patient Call Light report for the quarter and the numbers were in-line with the previous fiscal year. The board reviewed ambulance response times from within the hospital for fiscal year 2013 and for the month of September for all calls and for just 9-1-1 calls. Pryor then went over the results of the quarterly Emergency Room and In-Patient Satisfaction Results for the months of July through September. A total of 212 survey responses were received for the Emergency Room with outstanding results of over 97% in all categories. There were 30 In-Patient Survey responses received and although most areas were very good to excellent, there were a couple areas that showed a lower score than the last fiscal year that will be monitored. The SMDH Rural Health Clinics Patient Satisfaction Results all come back with excellent scores. Assistant Administrator Kasey Lucas said that the Version 19 upgrade to CPSI was just completed and there were a few problems with the interfaces that will be corrected. He also said that the hospital was going to need to get a module that would link the CPSI to the Health Information Exchange. In the annual bylaw review, it was brought up to make sure that all candidates for the Hospital Board have their federal, state and local taxes paid before signing up. Hospital Attorney Mark Weaver said that the candidate form would be changed to reflect that, but that once elected, the hospital has nothing in place if board members don’t stay up to date with their taxes. He will research that further. He also said that the term “propaganda” in the prohibited activities in the General Scope bylaw, Policy 11.6, Section B, basically came from the IRS guidelines and he recommended leaving that as is. The Board approved the budgeted purchase of the CPSI module discussed by Kasey Lucas for Information Systems for $4,300 with a down payment of $430, and they also approved the purchase of Server Staging and it’s installation from CPSI for $20,436 as support has ended for the Imagelink Server and SAN Storage. They also approved the purchase of three recliners from Southtown Furniture for Acute Care for $1,197, and Southtown also donated two more to the hospital for a total of five recliners.

The Healthy Dent County Board of Directors, in coordination with the City of Salem, will conduct a Groundbreaking Ceremony for the first phase of construction for the Salem Community Center @ the Armory. This event will be held on this morning at 11:00 at the Salem Community Center @ the Armory located at 1200 West Rolla Road in Salem. The first phase of the construction project will be completed by Cahill Construction, Inc. a locally owned company that was chosen by the Healthy Dent County Board at their meeting on Thursday, October 3^rd. This phase of construction is being paid from the proceeds raised from Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) tax credits. During the Capital Campaign that was held last year nearly $500,000 was raised locally. Work to be completed include a new addition and renovation of the Salem Fitness Center, renovations and new HVAC for multi-purpose gym area, a connecting corridor around entire gym area, a new after-school program classroom, the renovation and improvements of bathrooms, and new entries into the building.

The Dent County Fire Protection District released their reports. On Sunday, October 13^th at 11:00 at night, a call came in for a medical assist of EMS crews on Highway P. A total of six firefighters responded to the call. On Tuesday, October 15^th at 4:31 in the afternoon, a call came in for an extrication of a victim(s) from a vehicle on Highway K. A total of seven firefighters responded to the call and all units were back in service at 5:21 pm. Then on Thursday, October 17^th at 7:00 pm, a total of ten firefighters responded to the fire station for SCBA training and ladder training. On Sunday, October 20^th at 6:01 in the evening a total of seven firefighters responded to South Gertrude to provide medical assistance for EMS crews and all units were back in service at 6:16 pm. At 4:25 early Monday, October 21^st a total of four firefighters responded to the fire station to provide manpower to create a landing zone. All units were back in service at 5:35 am.
