An accident occurred early Sunday morning at 2:00 in Dent County on Highway 32 about 18 miles west of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by 35-year old Stacy Mendenhall of Salem, was traveling westbound on Highway 32 when she traveled off the right side of the roadway, collided with an embankment, went air born then collided with a tree and fence before overturning. Mendenhall suffered serious injuries and was transported to the Salem Memorial Hospital by the Dent County ambulance. She was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chevrolet Trailblazer was totaled and removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct their regular meeting at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington tonight beginning at 7:00 pm. After approval of the agenda in bids, the city had requested bids for hot mix asphalt overlay. The hot mix material was for 770 tons of asphalt and the price included per ton installed. Two bids were received by September 30th and will be presented to the Board. City Administrator Ray Walden will then update the Board on city happenings, as well as current and future projects. Mayor J.J. Tune will then present a plaque to Gary Cook and address a letter from the Dent County Museum for a donation. In new and miscellaneous business, City Police Chief Steelman is requesting the Board to approve the hours of 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, October 31st be set as Halloween Hours for trick or treating. Steelman is also requesting the Board consider adopting an ordinance concerning prepaid fuel at the convenience stores in town due to so many drive-offs without paying. The Board will then vote to go into closed session for the purpose of discussing personnel and litigation. The regular meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released a report. On Friday, October 11th at approximately 11:42 am, the Dent County Sheriffs Office received a call in regards to an alleged burglary that occurred in the 18000 block of Highway 72 South near Bunker. The reporting party stated that her ex-husband broke into her residence and was refusing to leave. At 12:07 pm, a Deputy with the Dent County Sheriffs Office responded to the residence. During the course of the investigation, it was revealed that property damage had occurred earlier in the week. After the investigation was complete, 25-year old Mr. David Barnes of Bunker, was placed under arrest for an active warrant out of the Fredericktown Police Department for failure to appear on driving while intoxicated $1,000 cash only bond and property damage. The above information is not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of any charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.

The 2014 Trees and Trains Exhibit will again be at the Ozark Natural and Cultural Resource Center at 202 South Main Street in Salem and will run from November 24th through December 24th this year. A representative from the Central Missouri Agency on Aging will be available to assist during the Med D open enrollment period.  The Salem Community Center @ the Armory Computer Lab will be used to help participants review their current plan and shop for the Part D plan that best meets your personal needs and financial situation. Appointments are available on: Thursday, October 23rd, Friday, October 24th then again on Thursday, November 6th and Friday, November 7th and the final one will be held on Thursday, November 13th. The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers continue to look for their first win of the year. Last week, the Lady Tigers lost to Plato Monday night in two straight games, 20-25 and 22-25; followed on Tuesday with a loss to Cabool in SCA play in two straight games, 7-25 and 9-25. On Thursday, the Lady Tigers traveled to Willow Springs for another SCA contest and lost to the Lady Bears in two straight games, 13-25 and 18-25. Salem will wrap up their regular season tonight against the Thayer Lady Bobcats in Thayer.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers have been seeded 8th in the Class 3, District 8 tournament and they will play the second seeded Sullivan Lady Eagles at 6:15 on Monday, October 20th at Union. The winner will play Tuesday, October 21st at 6:15 against the winner of the St. James and Owensville match.

The St. Louis Cardinals will be in San Francisco today to face the Giants in Game 3 of the National League Championship Series. The series is tied up 1-1. Game 3 will be a match-up of veterans, as John Lackey will take the mound for St. Louis opposite San Francisco’s Tim Hudson. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio starting with the pre-game show at 2:32. 

Game 3 of the American League Championship Series between the Kansas City Royals and Baltimore Orioles last postponed due to rain and will be played tonight at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. The Royals will have Jeremy Guthrie pitching, while Wei-Yin Chen. Kansas City leads the series 2-0 and first pitch is set for 7:07 tonight.

Colin Kaepernick passed for 343 yards and three touchdowns as the San Francisco 49ers overcame an early deficit to rally past the St. Louis Rams, 31-17, in an NFC West showdown on Monday night. Austin Davis completed 21-of-42 passes for 236 yards, a touchdown and an interception for St. Louis (1-4). The Rams will host the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday at noon.

Funeral services for Alan Dewayne Skaggs of Salem, age 40, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 tonight. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Dewayne Skaggs Memorial Fund at the Bank of Salem.

Funeral services for June Heavin of Salem, age 61, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00, with an Eastern Star Service at 7:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Salem Christian Church.

Funeral services for Charles Haas will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rolla. Visitation will be held at the church Friday morning from 9:00 to 11:00. Interment will be in the Ozark Hills Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Redeemer Lutheran Church. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary of Rolla.

Funeral services for Donald E. Coleman of Leasburg, age 81, will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Adams Cemetery.

Funeral services for Catherine I. McMullin of Inverness, Florida, formerly of Salem, age 65, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until service time Friday. Interment will be in the Stone Hill Cemetery.
