The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning.  At the meeting District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that the eastern and southern parts of the district received some rain on Monday, so grading would be done on Dent County Roads 517, 552, 625, 624 and 667. Simpson also said that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 622 and rock would be hauled to the crusher.  District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that grading would be done in the Howes Mill and Boss areas and also on the Golf Course Road.  Tune went on to say that gravel would be spread on Dent County Road 616 and rock would be hauled to the crusher.  Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles attended a series of MRPC meetings yesterday in St. James starting at 4:00. He will also meet with Fire Chief Brad Nash this morning to discuss the false call that was made Tuesday about an anhydrous ammonia spill on Route F near Green Forest School. Skiles said they will discuss how the fire department responded to the call and what or if any thing should have been handled differently. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that a Salary Commission Meeting will be held Monday, October 29^th at 11:00 and that meeting will be open to the public. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

Be sure and mark your calendars now and plan to attend the James Foundation’s Old Iron Works Day’s to be held on Saturday, October 13^th and Sunday, October 14^th at the Maramec Spring Park in St. James. This is one of the biggest and best events in Mid-Missouri with over 35 crafts, as well as demonstrations and displays during the two-day event. Musical entertainment will be provided by Rowden Review and Mid Night Flight and the Ozark Spirited Cloggers will also be performing. Just a quick reminder that today and tomorrow at the Ozark Natural & Cultural Resource Center, the Department of Natural Resources will be taking comments on the possibility of the property south of Salem, formerly known as the Presley Center and Alton Club, being turned into a state park. Hours to comment are from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. both days. You can also comment at Montauk State Park in the dining room at the lodge on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

October 13th is the deadline for applications to the 2007 Fall Nursing Academy. Open to students in south central Missouri, the academy targets students interested in pursuing nursing as a profession. The Rolla Technical Center will host the 2007 Fall Nursing Academy Friday, November 2nd. Any eligible high school junior or senior can attend this one-day, interactive, learning opportunity. Students will be able to meet with area nursing school representatives; participate in hands-on practice labs; apply for scholarships and prizes; receive college admission and financial aid information; and interact with nurses from a variety of specialty areas. The Fall Nursing Academy is a collaborative effort supported by individuals, health care agencies, nursing schools and the Mid-Missouri Area Health Education Center for nursing career development. The Annual Salem Area Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet & Silent Auction will be held on Thursday, November 15^th at the Commons, beginning at 6:30 pm. The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers improved their record to 5-1 in the SCA with a three-game win over the Ava Lady Bears last night at the Salem High School in their final home match of the year. Salem lost the first game 16-25 before coming back to win 25-14 and 25-19. Salem will participate in the Ozark Grand Slam tomorrow before facing Houston next Tuesday in their final regular season game.

The Salem Football Tigers will travel to Mountain View tonight to face the Liberty Eagles in SCA play and their final game before district play begins. Salem enters the game with a 2-4 record overall and a 2-2 record in the SCA. The St. Louis Blues will host the Colorado Rockies tonight starting at 7:30. KSMO will join the game in progress right after the Salem Tiger Football game. The Blues have won two straight games after the season opening loss in Phoenix.

Tomorrow at 5:30, Missouri will face the sixth- ranked Oklahoma Sooners at Norman, Oklahoma in pivotal game for the Missouri Tigers season and possibly for their program. The 11th-ranked Missouri Tigers have won their first five games of the year while Oklahoma does have one loss on the season and stands at 5-1. You can hear the game on KSMO starting at 4:30 with the pre-game show followed by the play-by-play at 5:30.

Brad Hawpe went 2-for-3 with two RBI and Jeff Francis tossed 6 2/3 solid innings, as the Colorado Rockies continued their red-hot play with a 5-1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series at Chase Field. Francis (2-0) got the win, surrendering just one run on seven hits with four strikeouts and one walk for the Rockies, who have won seven straight and 18 of their last 19 games dating back to the regular season. The left-hander has allowed just three runs on 11 hits in 12 2/3 innings over two starts so far this postseason, Colorado's first since losing in the NLDS in 1995. Game two is tonight.

The American League Championship series begins tonight with Boston and Cleveland tangling in Boston.

Graveside services for Toni "Patricia" Hall of Tucson, Arizona, age 50, will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Boss Cemetery. Visitation will be this evening from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery.

Funeral services for Raymond D. Fannon of Owensville, age 86, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the First Assembly of God Church in Owensville. Visitation will also be Saturday from 10:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Memorials are suggested to the First Assembly of God Church in Owensville.
