The City of Salem Planning & Zoning Board of Commissioners will be conducting a Workshop, called by Chairman Jerry Craig tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington beginning at 6:00 pm. The Workshop will be to discuss completion of the city map, address codebook inconsistencies, a city development plan and consideration of a city judge. Also to be discussed will be the certificate of occupancy requirements and enforcement of existing ordinances. The City of Salem Planning & Zoning Board of Commissioners workshop is open to the public.

The Ozark Natural & Cultural Resource Center will be hosting an exhibit in October, entitled “Artists in the Woods” This exhibit will display various items that are hand made from wood along with paintings and photographs taken in the wooded areas of the Ozarks. If you have items that you would be willing to display, please call the ONCRC at 573-729-0029 or 573-247-6822.  All items will need to be delivered to the ONCRC, 202 S. Main St. in Salem between the hours of 9 to 5 starting today thru October 3rd. The items will be on display from October 6th through October 31st.

The Salem Police Department released their reports. On Thursday, September 18th at 3:37 in the morning, an officer was called to Casey's General Store located on Highway 32 East in reference to a male subject acting disorderly and scaring customers. That investigation led to the arrest of a 39-year old Salem male for possession of opium and possession of drug paraphernalia. On Friday, September 19th at 11:53 at night, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation led to the arrest of a 47-year old male of St. Petersburgh, Florida for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. On Saturday, September 20th at 2:00 in the morning, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. That investigation led to the arrest of a 19-year old Salem female for possession of drug paraphernalia. On Sunday, September 21st at 11:30 at night, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation led to the arrest of a passenger of the vehicle, a 37-year old Salem male on two active arrest warrants from the City of Salem, one active arrest warrant from Crawford County, and one active arrest warrant from Dent County. On Monday, September 22nd at 9:18 in the evening, an officer made contact with a 23-year old Salem male in the 100 block of North Park who had an active arrest warrant from Crawford County. He was taken into custody on the warrant and found to be in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. He was incarcerated pending a court appearance. MoDOT has announced the roadwork for this week in Dent County. Roadway resurfacing will begin the week on Route B between Highways 19 and 72. Pavement and drainage improvements continue on Route J between Highway 72 and Highway 32. The road is closed between Highway 32 and 3rd Street during the work. Roadway maintenance will take place today through Friday, October 10th on Route W between Highway 32 and the end of state maintenance. An accident occurred at 12:40 Sunday afternoon in Crawford County on Highway 19 near Woolsey Road. According to the highway patrol report, 20-year old Korra Elliott of Salem was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu north when she ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected, went off the left side of the roadway, and then struck an embankment before overturning and coming to rest. Elliott suffered moderate injuries and was flown by Air Evac to Mercy in St. Louis. She was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chevrolet sustained extensive damage and was removed from the scene by Miles and Sons Towing of Steelville.

Flu Shots are available at the Dent County Health Center on a walk-in basis, Monday through Friday. The cost is $30, and they will bill Medicare, but you need to bring your card with you. The Center for Disease Control recommends an annual flu shot for all those 6-months of age and over. The Health Center is located at 601 North McArthur. For more information call 729-3106.

Brevin DeWeese’s interception of a Zac Eplin pass in the last minute of play secured a 21-14 win for the Willow Springs Bears over the Salem Football Tigers Friday night. The Tigers, playing without Zayne Kyser due to an injury, scored ona 40-yard pass from Eplin to Paul McClain and on a one-yard run by Aaron Hodges. Salem is now 2-4 on the year and 1-3 in the SCA They will be at Mountain Grove this Friday night.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers will host the St. Clair Lady Bulldogs today at 4:30 at the Salem City Park Field. The Lady Tigers are 11-3 after splitting two games on Saturday. This will be a prelude to district play that begins on October 8th. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com starting at 4:15. The game will be recorded for later playback on Fidelity Channel 6.

Russell Hansbrough had three touchdown runs, including a 1-yarder on fourth down with 1:36 left in the game that boosted Missouri to a 21-20 win over No. 13 South Carolina on Saturday. Missouri (4-1, 1-0 SEC) rallied from a 13-point deficit to win its conference opener. Missouri has the week off.

Nick Greenwood and four relievers combined to toss a two-hit shutout, and the St. Louis Cardinals blanked the Arizona Diamondbacks, 1-0, on the final day of the regular season. Cy Young candidate Adam Wainwright was scheduled to start for St. Louis, but after the Pirates lost earlier in the day and the Cardinals clinched their second straight NL Central division title, Greenwood was given the ball instead. St. Louis (90-72) will travel to Los Angeles for an NLDS series with the NL West champion Dodgers starting on Friday.

Carlos Peguero's RBI single capped a three- run sixth inning, lifting the Kansas City Royals over Chicago, 6-4, in the final game for retiring White Sox captain Paul Konerko. The Royals, who had already secured their first playoff berth since 1985, entered Sunday's action a game behind Detroit in the AL Central. The Tigers, however, beat the Twins to win the division. Kansas City (89-73) will host Oakland in the AL wild card game on Tuesday night.

The Kansas City Chiefs will be in New England tonight to face the Patriots for Monday Night Football. The Chiefs are 1-2 on the year and kickoff is set for 7:30.

Funeral services for Rose Ellen Coleman of Lenox, age 70, will be at noon today at Anutt Full Gospel Church. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Enke Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for Jesse Westerman of Salem, age 84, will be today at 2:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery with full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to Saving Sight.

Funeral services for Vernon ‘Gene’ Fink of Troy, age 90, will be held at 11:00 Tuesday morning at the Null and Son Funeral Home in Rolla. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Lake Spring Cemetery.

Funeral services for Hack Lea of Steelville, age 83, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 Tuesday night. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Steelville Cemetery or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Funeral services for Earlene Mae Steelman of Salem, age 86, will be held Friday at 2:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Dry Fork Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Baptist Children’s Home.
