The Dent County Commissioners met Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse for their regular meeting. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that workers are repairing or replacing downed or stolen road signs. He also said that grading was being done on Dent County Road 6080 and 6110, and brush was going to be cut on 6630 and 6670. He went on to say that one of the workers would be screening gravel. In District 2, Commissioner Gary Larson said that brush was going to be cut on Dent County Roads 4290 and 4300, and the workers will be servicing brush cutter #6 as well as other equipment during the rain. Larson stated that the gravel plant is running so that MSHA can do their inspections on the operations and machinery. Larson wanted to let the public know that the county is doing their best at getting brush cut on the county roads. With over 700 miles of roads to maintain, the county has four brush cutters that can each cut about three miles of road per day, and most of this summer one of the brush cutters has been down for repairs slowing up the process. He asks that the public be patient, as the road crews will be getting to the roads as soon as they possibly can. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that he attended the MRPC meeting Thursday night in St. James. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that the bills were ready for the commissioners to sign, and that she and the county treasurer balanced last week. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 at the Dent County Courthouse and the meeting will be open to the public.

A representative from U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill’s staff will be at the Salem Public Library in Salem, from 10:00 to 11:00 this morning to talk with local residents. McCaskill’s staff host “Kitchen Table Talks” statewide in order to reach out to constituents, address their questions and concerns, and provide Missourians with the resources necessary to receive assistance from a federal agency. At the meetings, the staff reports all feedback they receive directly to McCaskill. The Kitchen Table Talks also serve, in part, to inform area residents of the services that are available to them when they contact one of her regional offices. McCaskill’s staff can assist constituents on a range of federal government issues.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving a traffic violation and thefts. On Wednesday morning, September 1^st at 12:20, an officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 26-year old male of Salem for felony driving while having his license revoked, failing to register the vehicle, and no proof of insurance. He was incarcerated pending the application for a warrant. Later that morning at 1:08, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation led to the arrest of two Salem males; one 17-year old and an 18- year old, for numerous thefts and burglaries. They were incarcerated pending the application of warrants. Later on that night at 7:00, an officer was detailed to the 1400 block of West Franklin Street in reference to a theft. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took a concrete yard ornament valued at $75.00 from the yard of a residence. On Thursday, September 2^nd at 3:45 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft from a vehicle. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took a wallet and contents from a vehicle in the 700 block of South Pershing Street. Later that night at 6:00, an officer was dispatched to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 24-year old female of St. James for stealing merchandise valued at $33.00. She was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. The Salem Lady Volleyball Varsity Tigers edged Owensville Thursday night in a close match with Salem winning the first game, 25-16; Owensville taking the second game, 19-25; and Salem won the third game, 27-25. The varsity is now 2-2 on the year. The JV lost in two straight, 25-20 and 25-5. The Lady Tigers will at be West Plains Monday night at 6:00.

The Salem Football Tigers will host the Mountain View-Liberty Eagles tonight in SCA play beginning at 7:00. Salem enters the game with a 1-1 record while Mountain View is 2-0. The University of Missouri will host McNeese State Saturday night at 6:00 at Faurot Field. You can hear the game joined in progress after Cardinal Baseball on KSMO Radio. Missouri enters the game with a 1-0 record.

Colby Rasmus went 4-for-4 with a pair of home runs and four RBI as St. Louis dominated Atlanta, 11-4, in the opener of a four-game set. Skip Schumaker went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run and two runs scored while Brendan Ryan added two hits, two RBI and two runs scored for the Cardinals. Adam Wainwright (18-10) bounced back from a rough first inning to get the win as he was charged with three runs and seven hits with seven strikeouts over eight innings. With the win and Cincinnati's loss to Colorado on Thursday, the Cardinals trimmed their deficit in the NL Central to five games. The Cards and Braves play again tonight. The Kansas City Royals had the day off Thursday and start a three game series with the Chicago White Sox tonight.

The St. Louis Rams open their regular season at home Sunday afternoon against the Arizona Cardinals, while the Kansas City Chiefs will wait until Monday night to open their season when they host the San Diego Chargers.

University of Missouri Director of Athletics Mike Alden has been appointed Chair of the NCAA Leadership Council. Athletic Director at Mizzou since 1998, Alden was a member of the Leadership Council last year and was elevated to his new role for the 2010-11 academic year. The Leadership Council, which boasts representatives from 31 Division I conferences, identifies important issues surrounding the future of the NCAA. It also provides oversight to several committees including Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee, the Sportsmanship and Ethical Conduct Committee, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the Committee on Women's Athletics and all NCAA cabinets.

Funeral services for Richard V. Valleroy of St. James, age 72, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Immaculate Conception Church in St. James. Visitation will be today from 9:30 until service time at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Interment will be in the Sewell Cemetery in rural Maries County. Memorials are suggested to the St. Anthony Hospice House.

Funeral services for Maxine Louise Smith of Velvet Ridge, Arkansas, age 80, will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be this evening from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Bunker Cemetery.

Funeral services for William L. Berardy, Jr., age 94, of Salem will be Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at the Salem Chapel of the James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be today from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Salem Chapel of the James and Gahr Mortuary. Internment will be held at the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Marjorie M. Daniels of St. James, age 88, will be held Monday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Interment will be it the Rolla City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the First Assembly of God Church.
