An accident occurred at 9:45 Friday morning in Dent County on Route C about three miles north of Lenox that took the life of a Licking woman. According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2001 Chrysler Van driven by 33-year old Kimberely Samel went off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, and ran off the left side of the roadway. The van overturned several times, ejecting Samel, before coming to rest in a field. Samel was taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital and pronounced dead after arrival by Dr. Ann Delanois. She wasn’t wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chrysler Van was totaled in the accident and removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

An accident happened Saturday morning at 1:10 in Dent County on Highway 32 about seven miles east of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 2000 Chevrolet 2500 driven by 27-year old Charles Shoemake of Steelville was traveling westbound when Shoemake drove off the right side of the roadway and the truck became airborne over a culvert. The Chevy truck struck the embankment and overturned ejecting Shoemake from the vehicle. Shoemake suffered serious injuries and was life-flighted to St. Johns Hospital in Creve Coeur by Air Evac. Shoemake was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The vehicle was totaled and removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

An accident occurred at 11:00 Sunday night in Dent County on Highway 32 about four miles west of Salem. According to the Highway Patrol report, a 1996 Suzuki Sidekick driven by 45- year old Nancy Igou of Salem, traveled off the right side of the road and struck a fence and then three trees. Igou suffered moderate injuries and was transported by ambulance to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. She wasn’t wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Suzuki Sidekick sustained extensive damage and was removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

An accident occurred at 2:15 Monday afternoon in Dent County on Highway 19 about two miles south of Salem. According to the Highway Patrol report, a 1993 Ford Taurus driven by 53-year old Toby Westerman of Salem went off the right side of the roadway, struck a embankment and fence, and then struck a storage building. Westerman suffered moderate injuries and was transported by ambulance to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford Taurus sustained extensive damage and was removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

The Salem Board of Aldermen will hold their regular meeting tonight at 7:00 at the city hall council chambers. At the meeting, the board will hear bids from banks on interest rates on a two-year lease/purchase proposal for $45,890, bids on hot mix asphalt, bids on a 22 kw generator for the police department, and bids on the sale of 3,980 pounds of scrap coated copper wire. After the consent agenda, the board will discuss the issuance of a trailer court license to the R & C Family Mobile Home Park. After Mayor Gary Brown gives the Director of Public Works report, the board will hear and discuss two bills. Bill #3208 would create an ordinance for the construction of a sidewalk along Route J from the Salem City Park to the hiking and biking trail with the Missouri Highway and Transportation Commission, and Bill #3209 that would approve a settlement with T-Mobile. The board will also discuss committee appointments, the LAGERS annual meeting representative, as well as the existing pole agreements and franchise fees. The meeting tonight is open to the public.

The Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors will conduct their monthly meeting tonight at the fire station beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the agenda and a review of the minutes from the previous meeting, the Board will discuss the payment of bills. There will be a budget review of the 2011 budget and also a discussion of investments. There will then be a calendar review and the monthly reimbursement report. In new business, there will be a review of items from the Directors training and the start of the chief’s yearly evaluation. Chief Brad Nash will then update the Board on the guttering and garage doors at the station and also give a progress on the inventory list. The Board will then set their monthly meeting for October 5^th at the station. The regular monthly meeting of the Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors is open to the public.
