The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their reports. On Tuesday, August 23^rd, the sheriff’s department received a written statement from a victim, the owner of a residence located on Highway 32 East. The victim stated that as of May 12^th of this year, he checked his residence and discovered that a person or persons unknown, unlawfully forced entry into that residence and stole copper wiring and pipes from it. When the person or persons stole the copper, they also destroyed his property in that, there was damage to the walls and the pipes caused other damage as well. Forcing the door open that connects the garage to the main part of the house, was where they made entry. The value of the damage to the property is over $750. According to the sheriff departments report, the case is closed due to an arrest. On Wednesday, August 24^th at 8:47 in the morning, deputies responded to the 2900 block of Route C for a report of a burglary and or stealing. Upon arrival, deputies discovered that a 92-year old Salem male was the reported victim of the burglary/stealing. He stated a gray fireproof lock box containing bank CD’s and a property deed were taken from inside the residence without consent. That same morning at 9:00, the sheriff’s department received a call from a 54-year old Salem male that reported being the victim of stealing from his property located in the 200 block of Route FF. He stated that 300 foot of 5/8 steel cable, a 42” Murray lawnmower deck, a 22” Murray push mower, gray in color, two 6-inch car ramp and one gas hot water heater were taken without his consent. Anyone with any information regarding the burglary and or stealing repots, which are still under investigation, is asked to contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Office by calling 729-3241.

Captain Lee Ann Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, announces the results of a DWI saturation patrol conducted in Crawford County from 7:00 pm, Saturday, August 27^th until 3:00 am, Sunday, August 28^th. During the enforcement operation troopers made arrests or issued citations for 32 various criminal and traffic violations, which included two citations for DWI, four citations for speeding, three citations for failure to wear a seat belt, one citation for a child restraint violation, three citations for hazardous moving violations, two citations for no proof of insurance, two citations for non-moving traffic offenses, three citations for driver’s license violations, four citations for misdemeanor warrant arrests, six violations for misdemeanor drug arrests and two citations for felony warrant arrests. The Missouri Department of Transportation has announced the upcoming roadwork that will take place in our area. In Crawford County there will be multiple operations that will take place through Thursday, September 1^st. Partial surface overlay will take place on Route E between Highway 8 and the end of state maintenance. Chip sealing the roadway surface to extend pavement life will take place on Route Y between Highway 8 and the Washington County line. Motorists should expect to encounter loose gravel on the road surface for several days after the seal coat is complete. At that time, crews will sweep the roadway. Partial surface overlay will take place on Route EE between Route F and the Gasconade County line. In Dent County, Partial surface overlay will take place on Route U between Highway 68 and end of state maintenance on Thursday, September 1^st. In Phelps County, partial surface overlay in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 44 at mile marker 176 will take place through Thursday, September 1^st. Bridge maintenance and repair on the Route B bridge over Clear Creek will take place through Thursday, September 1^st. The Central Missouri Area Agency on Aging will present a FREE FORUM where you can learn about the new Medicare Prescription Drug Program open enrollment dates starting October 15^th and ending December 7^th of this year. Kay Barbee, a Medicare Outreach Consultant, can help you learn about the EXTRA HELP programs (Medicare Part D) that help you pay for your medications. The FREE FORUM will be held on Tuesday, September 6^th at 1:30 in the afternoon at the TCRC at the Armory located at 1200 West Rolla Road in Salem. All Medicare beneficiaries and caregivers are encouraged to attend.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers lost to the Ava Bears Tuesday by the score of 4-0. Salem could muster only seven hits in the game. Ava scored a run in the 5^th inning and three more in the sixth inning, all of them unearned due to Salem errors. The Lady Tigers will be off until next Tuesday when they travel to Houston. The Lady Tigers are now 3-3 on the year.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers dropped their first match of the year to St. James in three games. Salem won the first game, 25-20, then lost the second game by the score of 11-25. In the 3^rd game, St. James outlasted the Lady Tigers, 20-25. The Salem JV team lost in two straight games. Salem will host Pacific tomorrow night at 6:00 at the Salem High School Gym.

Edwin Jackson threw seven strong innings and singled in a run, helping the Cardinals build a slim lead they maintained for a 2-1 victory over the Brewers. Jackson (4-2) allowed a run on six hits, didn't walk a batter and struck out three during his start. Jon Jay drove in a run with a sacrifice fly that proved to be the winning run in the fifth inning. Fernando Salas worked out of a ninth inning jam to get his 23^rd save. The Cards and Brewers play again tonight at 6:35 on KSMO.

A game dominated by pitching ended with Ramon Santiago taking Aaron Crow deep over the right-field wall in the 10th, giving the Detroit Tigers a dramatic 2-1 win over the Kansas City Royals. Doug Fister and Jeff Francis were brilliant in their outings, but neither factored in the decision. Francis allowed just one hit and one walk before being removed in the 7^th inning. Crow is now 3-4 on the year after giving up the game winning home run. The two teams play again tonight.

Funeral services for Karen Ann Wynn of Steelville, age 59, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.

Private graveside services for Vera Aline Kehr of Steelville, age 90, will be held Friday at the Earney Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Memorials may be given to the Gibbs Care Building Fund c/o Britton-Bennett Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Joelene Bolerjack of Salem, age 76, will be private and are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
