Suspended Missouri running back Derrick Washington has been charged with deviate sexual assault. The Columbia Daily Tribune reports that official charges were filed Monday. Washington had been suspended indefinitely by Missouri head coach Gary Pinkel last week.
J.A. Happ tossed a two-hit shutout to lift the Houston Astros to a 3-0 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in the opener of a three-game set. Jake Westbrook (1-3) went seven innings and was charged with three runs on nine hits and a walk for the reeling Cardinals, coupled with Cincinnati's 10th-inning win over Milwaukee, fell six games back of the Reds for first place in the NL Central. Yadier Molina and Randy Winn had the only hits for the Cards. The Cards and Astros play again tonight at 6:45 on KSMO.
The St. Louis Cardinals activated reliever Jason Motte from the 15-day disabled list Monday. To open a roster spot, the team optioned infielder/outfielder Allen Craig to Triple-A Memphis.
The Cardinals and Marlins will make up their Aug. 8 postponement on Sept. 20 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami. As a result of the make-up date, the Cardinals will not have a scheduled off-day after Sept. 2.

Wilson turned in 7 2/3 scoreless innings to lead Texas over Kansas City, 3-0, in the first of three between the clubs at Kauffman Stadium.Wilson (14-5) allowed just two hits and fanned six against four walks en route to his seventh consecutive win. Billy Butler, Willie Bloomquist and Jai Miller notched the lone hits for the Royals, who have lost five of seven. Kyle Davies (6-9) went 8 1/3 frames in the loss, as he yielded 10 hits and three runs -- two earned -- while fanning six. The Royals and Rangers play again tonight.
