Wilson Betemit hit two homers in a game for the first time in his career, as the Kansas City Royals held off the Minnesota Twins, 9-8. Mitch Maier hit a two-run homer for the Royals, who had lost three of four coming in. Jose Guillen went 3-for-5 with an RBI and run scored for the victors. Bruce Chen (3-0) went 6 1/3 innings in the start, allowing five runs on 10 hits. He also fanned a season-best seven batters and walked one to pick up the win. Joakim Soria recorded his 14th save of the year despite giving up two runs in the ninth. The Royals will face the Reds this weekend in Interleague play.

The University of Colorado has decided to leave the Big 12 Conference and will join the Pac-10. Colorado had been part of the Big 12 since its inception in 1996. The league formed with members of the old Big 8 Conference, of which Colorado was affiliated, and the Southwest Conference. The dissolution of the Big 12 appears imminent. In addition to the Pac-10's raid of the league, the Big Ten has also reportedly invited Nebraska to leave the Big 12. That announcement will reportedly come today.
The Salem Lady Tiger Softball Summer Camp will he held July 12th thru 15th and July 19th thru 22nd from 8:00 am to 11:00 am for girl's entering 9th through 12 grades and from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm for girl's entering 6th through 8th grades. The Salem Lady Tiger Softball Summer Camp will be held at the blue field next to the old armory, the cost is $20 per camper and each camper will receive a camp T-shirt.
