The Salem Police Department has released several reports. On Saturday, May 25^th at 2:40 in the early morning, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 28-year old Salem male for driving while intoxicated and driving while revoked. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. At 5:23 later that day, an officer was dispatched to North Rhodes and Third in reference to an intoxicated male causing a disturbance. That investigation led to the arrest of a 31-year old Salem male for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was issued summonses to appear in court and released. On Tuesday, May 28^th at 8:53 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to Country Mart in reference to a theft from the pharmacy. The investigation led to the arrest of a 17-year old Salem male for stealing items valued at $332. He was released pending the application for a warrant. Later that afternoon at 1:13, an officer made contact with a 25-year old Salem male, who had an active warrant for his arrest from the City of Salem.  He was taken into custody on the warrant and later released after posting bond. That night at 9:31, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of East Ninth in reference to a theft. That investigation revealed that someone took a check for $500 from the mail of the resident and cashed it at Walmart in Rolla. On Wednesday, May 29^th at 12:00 in the early morning, an officer transported a 30-year old female to the Mineral Area Medical Center in Farmington in lieu of a mental commitment order. That same morning at 9:00, an officer was dispatched to Classic Joyride on Craig Drive in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that someone took items valued at $90 from vehicles. Anyone with any information regarding the theft reports is asked to please call the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

The Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors held their June meeting last Tuesday evening at the fire station. After approval of the agenda and minutes from the previous meeting, the Board reviewed financial reports, approved bills and signed file copies. The Board then reviewed the calendar for the district and then set their next meeting for Tuesday, July 2^nd at the fire station beginning at 6:00 pm. The meeting was then adjourned.

An accident occurred at 1:20 Saturday afternoon in Crawford County on Highway 8 at Route BB east of Steelville. According to the highway patrol report, the collision occurred when a 1997 Chevy Pickup driven by 16-year old Michael Hicks of Steelville turned left into the path of a 2004 Ford E350, driven by 45-year old Kelly Stroh of Salem. Suffering minor injuries were occupants 16-year old Michael Hicks of Steelville, 17-year old Jessica Stroh of Salem, 45-year old Kelly Stroh of Salem and 12-year old Scott Stroh, while 16-year old Brianna Composto of Steelville suffered moderate injuries. All involved were taken by ambulance to the Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan, while 16-year old Jeffery Adams of Steelville, who suffered minor injuries, sought his own treatment. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage and were towed by Miles Towing.

Attorney General Chris Koster announced that Missouri borrowers who submitted a valid foreclosure payment claim through the National Mortgage Settlement would receive a payment for approximately $1,480. In February 2012, 49 state attorney generals and the federal government announced the joint state-federal National Mortgage Settlement with the country’s five largest mortgage servicers. Ally (formerly GMAC), Bank of America, Citi, JPMorgan Chase, and Wells Fargo participated in the settlement, which set aside $1.5 billion for direct payments to borrowers who lost their homes to foreclosure. 23,707 Missouri borrowers will receive a direct payment under the Settlement, totaling $33,933,493 statewide. To qualify for the direct payments, borrowers had their mortgage serviced by one of the five participating mortgage services, lost their home to foreclosure between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2011, and submitted a valid claim form. The settlement administrator, Rust Consulting, will mail valid claim payments from June 10^th through June 17^th. A small number of borrowers will receive a check for less than the approximately $1,480 payment in situations where borrowers are divorced or separated and no longer live at the same address. The full per-loan amount will be paid on these loans, but the payment will be evenly split between the borrowers. Others who submitted a claim form but do not have a valid Social Security number on file will be delayed in receiving their payments while tax-related issues are addressed. Two servicers recently provided information on an additional 31,000 borrowers, who were not included in the current distribution, but who will receive a notice in the coming months to submit a payment application. Every borrower who filed a claim will receive a letter regarding their outcome. Borrowers with questions about their National Mortgage Settlement payment should call Rust Consulting at 1-866-430-8358.

Former Salem High School pitcher Grant Gordon has been selected by the L.A. Angels in the 10^th round (307^th overall) of the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft. Gordon, son of Gary and Karen Gordon, just completed his senior season as a relief pitcher for the Missouri State Bears.

Matt Holliday hit his fifth career grand slam to cap a seven-run 10th inning as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Cincinnati Reds, 11-4, in the rubber match of a three-game series. Matt Carpenter ended with three RBI for the Cardinals, who have won three of four. Carlos Beltran hit a solo homer and knocked in two runs, while Yadier Molina and Daniel Descalso had an RBI apiece. St. Louis starter Lance Lynn allowed four runs on five hits while striking out six over six innings. Trevor Rosenthal (1-0) tossed two scoreless frames to pick up the win. The Cardinals have the day off today, but will start a three-game series with the New York Mets at Citi Field on Tuesday.

Alex Gordon singled in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Kansas City Royals completed a three- game series sweep of the Houston Astros with a 2-0 shutout on Sunday. Aaron Crow (2-1) allowed just one hit in the top of the eighth to pick up the win and Greg Holland notched his 12th save with a scoreless ninth to help the Royals win their fifth straight game. Kansas City starter Luis Mendoza threw seven shutout innings, allowing four hits and a walk, but the Royals recorded just two hits before finally scoring. Eric Hosmer provided an RBI single for Kansas City. The Royals start a three-game series with the Detroit Tiger tonight and that game starts at 7:10.

Visitation for Albert T. Holt of Rolla, age 89, will be held Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

Funeral services for Charles Junior Reed of Rolla, age 76, are incomplete. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.
