The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5450, 6230, 6590 and 6595. Simpson also said that material would be hauled to Dent County Roads 4122 and 6633, and brush would be cut on Dent County Road 5600. District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 3120, 3180, 4437 and 5320, and a crew would be patching pot holes on Dent County Road 2300. Tune also said that District 2 has project worksheets that are ready to be turned in to FEMA for reimbursement. Crews have been busy repairing flood damaged roads and bridges, and are still working on Dent County Road 2540 where the expected cost of the damage is to be around $23,000. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he spoke with Dent County Prosecuting Attorney Jessica Sparks about the lease-purchase agreement between the county and Mark Weaver and Kelly Parker. Skiles said that Weaver is out of town this week, but he and Sparks would like to meet with him before the closing on June 5
th to go over a few issues. At the meeting, the Commission also discussed the new assistant prosecuting attorney’s salary. The assistant prosecutor is getting paid a full time position salary and the Commissioners agreed that if the assistant prosecutor is getting paid for full time, then she must work 40 hours a week to be eligible for benefits. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.
We earlier reported that cell phone number are being released to telemarketing firms but that is not the case. We have found out that it is illegal for the automated dialers telemarketers use to dial cell phones. But if you use your cell phone as your only phone on applications for credit or prize registrtaions, you may receive calls from those firms or their affiliates. To prevent telemarketing calls to your cell phone, call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222. This is the NATIONAL DO NOT CALL list. You should call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You can also register online at www.donotcall.gov. The registration is free!
The Dent County Fire Protection District released their reports. On Wednesday, May 21st at 6:15 in the evening the Fire District responded to an ambulance assist on West Third Street. A total of six firefighters responded to the call. On Thursday, May 22nd at 12:11 in the afternoon, the Fire Protection District responded to an ambulance assist alarm on Dent County Road 4283. A total of five firefighters responded to the call. On Saturday, May 24th at 9:25 in the morning, the Fire Protection District responded to ambulance assist alarm. A total of three firefighters responded. Also on the 24th, the Dent County Fire Protection District responded to brush fire on Dent County Road 5080. When they arrived on the scene the property owner stated it was a controlled burn, and a total of five firefighters responded. On Sunday, May 25th at 5:20 in the evening, the Fire Protection District created a landing zone on Dent County Road 429. A total of eight firefighters were present. At 5:45 that evening, the Fire Protection District responded to an ambulance assist on West 7th Street. A total of eight firefighters were present. At 6:20 in the evening, the Fire Protection District created a landing zone at the station. A total of eight firefighters responded. At 7:50 the same evening, Dent County Emergency Management paged all fire departments in the area for storm spotting and a total of six firefighters were present. The alert was called down by 8:30. On Monday, May 26th at 11:13 in the morning, the Dent County Fire Protection District responded to an ambulance assist on Highway 32 East and a total of five firefighters were present.

The Salem Baseball Tigers catcher Brandon Plank was named to the Class 3, District 3 All District team. Brandon finished the year with a .340 batting average with 4 doubles, a triple and two homers and eight RBI. Congratulations Brandon!
Kyle Lohse tossed six-plus strong innings, and the St. Louis Cardinals edged the Houston Astros, 3-2, in the rubber match of a three-game set. Lohse (5-2) scattered five hits and allowed only one run with no strikeouts and one walk. Albert Pujols homered and scored twice for the Cardinals, who have won five of seven. Ryan Franklin surrendered a leadoff homer to Lance Berkman in the ninth, but set down the next three Astros for his fourth save. The Cards took an early 2-0 lead with a two-out rally in the first. Pujols lined a single to left before Ryan Ludwick and Troy Glaus walked, loading the bases. Chris Duncan singled to right, scoring Pujols and Ludwick. The cards begin a four game series with the Pirates tonight and Saturday night, Sunday afternoon and Monday night. All the games can be heard on KSMO Radio.
Kevin Slowey was one out shy of a shutout, and Carlos Gomez had four hits and two runs batted in for Minnesota, which completed a three-game sweep of the dismal Kansas City Royals with a 5-1 win. Slowey (2-4) picked up his first career complete game. He scattered six hits, fanned six and walked none. The Royals, meanwhile, saw their season-high losing streak reach 11 games. Alex Gordon doubled and had the club's sole RBI, while Luke Hochevar (3-5) allowed five runs on nine hits in 5 1/3 frames. On Thursday, the Royals placed pitcher Leo Nunez on the 15-day disabled list and recalled pitcher Neal Musser. They also optioned infielder Billy Butler to Triple-A Omaha, and purchased the contract of Aviles, who went 0-for-3 in Thursday's game. The Royals will host Cleveland this weekend.

Funeral services for Francis W. Strubberg of Salem, age 60, will be held today at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will also be today from 10:00 am until time of service. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.
Funeral services for Carol Ruth Camden of Lenox, age 72, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Assembly of God Church in Boss. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery.
Funeral services for Hilda Mae Grogan of Salem, age 89, will be held on Saturday at 2:00 at the Wilson mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held from noon until time for the service on Saturday. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Funeral services for Wayne L. Farho of Salem, age 55, are incomplete at this time, but are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem.
