The Dent County Commissioners regular meeting was held on Thursday at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that workers are patching washouts on Dent County Roads 4120 and 4124. Some workers will also remove two trees that feel across a school bus turnaround in Gladden and check for other downed trees. Two crews will be in the Montauk area continuing to clear roads off as quickly as they can. District Two Commissioner Gary Larson said that workers would be cleaning up brush on many roads. They cleared Dent County Roads 2240 and 4280, and are repairing the washouts on many roads including Dent County Road 2270. Larson also said that Dent County Road 3250 is now repaired and open. He did request that the county purchase additional white rock and stock pile it at the road and bridge department so that repairs can be made on weekends. All the commissioners approved the request. Purcell did say that the price of white rock just went up 75 cents per ton from Capital Quarry. All the commissioners wanted to thank all those citizens that have helped cut trees or who used their tractors to move trees to help with the cleanup efforts in clearing roads or making areas accessible. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that SEMA was in town Thursday to do a preliminary investigation of damages done to homes and businesses, and they will be back in town on Tuesday to assess the damage to the city of Salem and Dent County. Skiles said that the rural addressing that the county just did assisted in locating people on the county roads to make sure that they had access to their home, and also allowed police to check private drives that had two or three families on them to make sure they had access. Dale Williams came by to discuss a new roof for the Dent County Judicial Building and discussed ripping the old roof off entirely and checking the sub-roof for damages. They would then put down new insulation and a 60 mil TPO layer with an aluminum terminal bar all around the roof with a warranty of 15 years. He will have a price to the county no later than Monday. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that the Municipal Election held in April cost $14,852.73. She said that she also met with the insurance adjuster concerning the damages to the judicial building roof and the roof on the courthouse. Jim Hocker came in and offered the commission two-10 ft, 5 inch wide old riveted gas containers for free that could be used for large culverts once the ends are cut out. He said he might also have two smaller containers if they can use them. Commissioner Larson wants to check them out before to see if the county will be able to use them as they are in Ironton. Sheriff Rick Stallings spoke with the commissioners about the trouble the sheriff’s department is having communicating without a tower for their antenna. They thought about putting an antenna on the City of Salem Water Tower, but the county would have to run phone lines to the tower that would cost a lot of money every month for the lines and also a mileage charge. KSMO Radio General Manager Stan Podorski said that he would check with his tower people to see if there are any used communication towers available that the county could get quickly. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be held Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Baseball Tigers game with Iberia Thursday was postponed due to wet grounds. District play is scheduled to begin tomorrow at Sullivan and the 3^rd seeded Tigers are scheduled to play Hermann at 4:30. If played, you can hear the game on KSMO Radio and on ksmoradio.com. If the games are rained out districts will start on Monday at Sullivan. Salem finished their regular season with a 16-2 record.

The Salem Golf Team finished 6th at the SCA Conference Tournament held Thursday at Houston. Ava won the SCA Championship followed by Willow Springs, Mt. Grove, Thayer, Houston, Salem, Mt. View/Liberty and Cabool. The scores for Salem included Connor Stroburg, who shot an 88, Robbie Brooks who finished with a 93, Branden Piatt shot a 100, Ben Adams finished with a score of 101 and Zach Pogue came in fifth with a score of 110 which did not count towards total. No Tiger made the All Conference teams. Coach Moody handed out these awards at the sports banquet: the MVP went to Connor Stroburg, the Leadership Award went to Branden Piatt, and the Most Improved Player went to Robbie Brooks.

Colby Rasmus hit a two-run home run, and Albert Pujols stroked a two-run single in the eighth as the St. Louis Cardinals handled the Pittsburgh Pirates, 5-1, to avoid a three-game sweep at PNC Park. Shane Robinson went 1-for-3 with an RBI and run scored for the Cardinals, who lost the first two games of the series. Skip Schumaker went 3-for-4 with a run scored. Mitchell Boggs lasted just 4 1/3 innings, but allowed just one run on nine hits with a pair of walks and one strikeout in a no-decision for St. Louis. Trever Miller (1-0) struck out one and gave up a hit in one frame of relief to pick up his first win of the season. The Cards are at home to face the Milwaukee Brewers starting at 6:55 tonight on KSMO.

Cesar Izturis and Nick Markakis had two hits and drove in three runs apiece, as the Baltimore Orioles handled the Kansas City Royals, 9-5, in the opener of a four-game set. Billy Butler went 2-for-5 with a homer and three RBI for the Royals, who have dropped six straight games. David DeJesus had two doubles and an RBI, while Coco Crisp scored twice and had the other RBI. Gil Meche (2-4) got rocked in 4 1/3 frames, allowing five runs on six hits with two walks to take the loss for Kansas City. The Royals and Orioles play again tonight.

Funeral services for Robert “Bob” Perkins of Steelville, age 61, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be tonight from 4:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Pleasant Point Cemetery in Steelville. Memorials may be given to the Steelville City Park or the Jim Perkins Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Funeral services for Diane Bonebrake Schum, age 44, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Mount Hermon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family for funeral expenses.

Memorial services for Dr. William A. Andrews of Rolla, age 86, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the First Presbyterian Church in Rolla. Memorials are suggested to the William Andrews Civil Engineering Scholarship at MST, First Presbyterian Church of Rolla, Rolla Kiwanis club or charity of you choice. All the arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

Funeral services for Dorothy M. Wilson of Salem, age 78, will be held Sunday at 2:00 at the Null & Son Funeral Home in Rolla. Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Carty Cemetery in rural Salem. Memorials are suggested to the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Salem or the Hobson Community Church.
