The Dent County Commissioners met Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse for their meeting. In public comments, Terry Werner from Crawford County was in attendance concerning the property in Crawford County that Dent County had signed a quitclaim deed for. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles explained that the County had signed the quitclaim deed to relinquish any ownership of that property. Werner was not happy with that answer and was then referred to the Dent County Prosecuting Attorney Syd Pearson for more information regarding the matter. In road reports, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grader #24 was being serviced. He stated that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 6495 and signs would be replaced. Purcell said that he would be attending a Region I Homeland Oversight Committee meeting Friday afternoon at 1:00 in St. James. There are seven applications totaling $104,524.78 with only $42,510.78 available for those applications. District Two Commissioner Gary Larson said that brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 2160, 2590, 3160 and 3165. Crews would be checking roads for rain problems and checking for downed signs. Skiles wanted to remind everyone that a FREE tire collection will be held on Saturday, March 31st from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Rolla Recycling Center located on Old St. James Road. This tire collection is for residents only, no businesses will be allowed and you must unload the tires yourself. For more information call (573) 364-6693. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that the deadline to absentee vote in her office is April 2nd, and the deadline to request a mail out ballet is March 28th. She said that the absentee voting would be conducted at the courthouse on Saturday, March 31st from 8:00 am until noon. She then stated that the deadline to file for the Primary Election to be held August 7th is March 27th at 5:00 pm. At the last meeting the Commission voted to award Donnellson the bid for the chip and seal to be performed in Dent County. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 at the Dent County Courthouse and that meeting is open to the public.

The Salem TCRC at 1200 West Rolla Road in Salem will be hosting a town hall meeting on March 26th at noon to discuss Missouri’s portion of a national agreement regarding foreclosure abuses. Assistant Attorney General Mary Mulhearn will be in Salem to discuss how this will affect current landowners and those who have lost their home to foreclosure. Of the $155 million dollars in benefits, $86 million will go to Missouri homeowners who are behind on their mortgage payments; another $38 million will go to homeowners who are making payments every month, but now owe more principal on their home than they are worth; and more than $31 million will be targeted to Missouri homeowners who lost their homes due to foreclosure between January 1st, 2008 and December 21st, 2011 because of bad servicing practices. If you feel that you may qualify for these funds, a hotline has been set up for consumers who have questions about the settlements at 1-855-870-7676. The town hall meeting on March 26th is open to the public.

The City of Salem summer baseball, t-ball, and softball signups will be held today again on Thursday, March 29th and Friday, March 30th at the Salem TCRC from 4:00 to 6:00. There will also be a signup on Saturday, March 24th at the Salem High School Gym while the youth basketball games are going on. The Salem Tiger baseball games in the Houston Tournament that were scheduled for yesterday have been rescheduled for today. Salem games have been pushed back and Salem will finish their game against Houston at 4:00 and take on Mt. Grove at 6:00.

The golf meet in Mt. View that the Salem golf team was to play in yesterday was cancelled due to wet conditions.

Jeff Carter recorded the game-winning goal in the fourth round of the shootout to lift the Los Angeles Kings over the St. Louis Blues, 1-0, at Staples Center. Elliot made 37 saves for his seventh shutout of the year, but the Blues still dropped their fourth game in five tries. The Blues finish up their seven game road trip Sunday night in Phoenix as the Blues play the Coyotes at 8:00, and you can hear it on KSMO.

Tyler Greene hit a two-run homer and Yadier Molina added two more RBI as St. Louis blitzed Washington, 9-0, in Grapefruit League play. Jaime Garcia allowed three hits and fanned 9 over 5 scoreless innings. The Cards play the Marlins today at 12:05. You can hear the Cardinal’s Saturday and Sunday Spring Training games at 11:45 on KSMO.

Howie Kendrick drove in three runs as the Los Angeles Angels defeated the Kansas City Royals, 7-4, in the first of the Royal’s split squad games. Lorenzo Cain smacked a two-run home run for the Royals. In the second game, Adam Dunn hit a pair of home runs off Bruce Chen as the White Sox beat the Royals, 16-4. Billy Butler hit his third home run of the spring in defeat. The Royals play the Angels again this afternoon.

Funeral services for Imogene Henderson of O’Fallon, age 81, will be held today at noon at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Graveside services will be at 1:00 at the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Junia May ‘Judy’ Turnbough of Viburnum, age 72, will be today at 1:00 at the Viburnum High School Gym. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until time of service at the gym.

Funeral services for Ethel Lorene Riggs of Cherryville, age 93, will be today at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Shoal Creek Cemetery in Berryman.

Funeral services for Joyce Ellen Tiefenthaler of Salem, age 77, will be held Monday at 12:00 (noon) at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association.

Funeral services for Helen Graham of Steelville, age 74, will be held Wednesday at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00. Internment will be in the Martin Cemetery in Steelville.
