The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning.  For the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that crews are back to grading their regular routes after catching up on patching and washouts.  Purcell said that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5160, 5630 and 6283.  He also said that rock would be hauled to Dent County Roads 4185, 5170 and 6283 and a crew would be installing a new approach on Dent County Road 5170.  District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2120, 2130, 4270 and 4290 and rock would be hauled to Dent County Road 6160.  Larson said that weather permitting; patching would start next week on the chip and seal roads throughout the district. Commissioners Purcell and Larson also stated that ditches are being pulled in both districts.  Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that the counties year to date sales tax revenue is down $6,089 from this time last year.  He also reported that he attended a Community  Betterment Association Meeting on Monday, where the main discussion focused on getting a grant from the USDA to pave the parking lot of the Farmer’s Market. Skiles also attended a Public Housing Authority Meeting and a series of MRPC Meeting’s yesterday in St. James. The next meeting of the Commission will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Cardinal pocket schedules have arrived and are available around town and at the KSMO Radio Station lobby.

Michael Sankovitch has been named vice president of strategic planning since his return to Doe Run from a five-year stint with Doe Run Peru as its technical and project vice president of strategic planning. Sankovitch’s career in mining and minerals spans three decades. Prior to the formation of The Doe Run Company, he worked for company predecessors, the Fluor Corporation and St. Joseph Minerals. With an engineering degree in metallurgy and a graduate degree in business administration, he has served in a wide range of roles within Doe Run including operations, research and development, project management, accounting and community relations.

The 6th Annual Sligofest will be held Saturday at the Sligo Community Building-School beginning with all you eat food at 12:00 noon for $8.

The Cosmopolitan Club will present their 58th Annual Variety Show/Miss Salem Pageant on Saturday, March 14th at the Salem City Hall beginning at 7:30. Admission is $5 for adults and children under 12 years of age, the cost is $3. There are 21 girls competing for Miss Salem this year and they include; Shala Plank, Michelle Pankey, Houlie Ibrahim, Lacey Rice, Carrie Howell, Jaclyn Rutland, Sierra Daniels, Micah Morton, Cortney Wainwright, Ashly Adams, Jessica Brand, Gabrielle Skiles, Lauren Blackwell, Rebecca Potts, Fara Julien, Laken Farel, Elizabeth Warden, Alivia Elliot, Andrea Patterson, Amy Padgett and Carly Carroll.

The All Big 12 Honors have been released and several Missouri Tigers were honored. Senior forward DeMarre Carroll landed first team honors while fellow senior Leo Lyons earned third team honors. Senior Matt Lawrence was named Co-Six Man of the Year and junior J.T. Tiller was named as an honorable mention, Co-Defensive Player of the Year, and was the only unanimous pick to the All-Defensive Team. Junior transfer Zaire Taylor rounded out the award winners, earning a spot on the Big 12's All-Rookie unit.

Joe Thurston went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored as the St. Louis Cardinals edged the Boston Red Sox, 4-2, in Grapefruit League play. Joe Mather hit a two-run home run while Rick Ankiel drove in the other run for the Cardinals. Chris Carpenter gave up just two hits and two walks in four innings of work. The Cardinals will be in action this weekend as they will play the Atlanta Braves Saturday and The Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday. Both of those games can be heard on KSMO starting at 11:45.

Mark Teahen hit a two-run homer and Horacio Ramirez pitched five effective frames, as Kansas City downed the Chicago White Sox, 9-3, in Cactus League action. Chris Lubanski hit a three-run homer for some insurance in the eighth inning, while Mike Jacobs finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Ramirez gave up three runs on six hit for the victory.

Andy McDonald had a goal and an assist, and Chris Mason made 24 saves to lead the St. Louis Blues to a 3-1 victory over the slumping San Jose Sharks on Thursday night. Brad Boyes also scored his team-leading 28th goal, and Barret Jackman added an empty-netter for St. Louis. The Blues will be back in action Saturday at 1:00 against Detroit and again Sunday at 5:00 against Minnesota.

DeMarre Carroll had 19 points and 5 rebounds as he lead the Missouri Tigers to an 81-60 victory over the Texas Tech Red Raiders to advance to the semifinals of the Big 12 tournament. They will play the Oklahoma State Cowboys tonight and you can hear that game at 8:00 on KSMO.

The St. Louis Rams have released tight end Anthony Becht.

Funeral services for Mayonne Gregory of Salem, age 59, will be this morning at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in the Sligo Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Dent County Relay for Life or the American Cancer Society.

Funeral services for Phyllis L. Roam of Salem, age 77, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 9:00 until service time. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.

Funeral services for Ruth Reynolds of Salem, age 88, will be held this afternoon at 2:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 12:00 (noon) until service time. Interment will be it the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Shirley Miller of St. James, age 76, will be held Saturday at 9:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Florissant. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church.

Funeral services for Mandy Smith Gray of Sullivan, formerly of Steelville will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Britton Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the New Home Cemetery in Cherryville. Memorials may be given to the BJC Hospice or the New Home Cemetery.

Funeral services for Robert E. Harris of Edgar Springs, age 75, will be held Tuesday at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Edgar Springs. Memorials are suggested to the Cedar Hill Cemetery.
