The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. At the meeting, the commission recognized Jacob Kettner for being named the SCA Player of the Year for the 2011 and 2012 basketball season. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that weather permitting, grading would be done on Dent County Road 2470. He reported that workers would be removing the snow blade and spreader box on truck #119, and that a driver was hauling rock from the creek. Purcell went on to say that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 6460 and that two workers would be replacing and cleaning roads signs that have been covered with graffiti. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2500 and 3260, plus materials would be added and grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5280 and 5300. Larson said that he also has a worker that would be hauling creek gravel. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that he attended the Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management Executive Board meeting Tuesday and they reviewed the year to date financials, approved the request for final payment on grants, and they sent a letter to their state Senators and state representatives concerning Senate Bill #849 that would divert tipping fee funds from the solid waste districts to the Department of Natural Resources. Skiles attended the public housing authority meeting Thursday afternoon and the MRPC meeting Thursday night. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that absentee voting continues through April 2nd at her office at the courthouse, that the last day to ask for a mailout ballot would be March 28th, and that the final costs of the Presidential Primary election in Dent County were $20,653.15. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Tuesday, February 21st at 7:40 in the evening, an officer observed a 32-year old Salem female who had an active warrant from the City of Salem. She was taken into custody on the warrant in the Wal-Mart parking lot. She was unable to post bond and was incarcerated at the Dent County Jail. At 8:11 that same evening, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 1400 block of South Gertrude in reference to a domestic disturbance. The investigation revealed that a 26-year old Salem male had assaulted a 52-year old Salem male.  The suspect was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. On Wednesday, February 22nd at 2:21 in the afternoon, an officer made contact with a 24-year old Salem female who had an active warrant from the City of Salem. She was taken into custody on the warrant and incarcerated.

Kim English led the way with 27 points and Marcus Denmon followed with 24 as fifth-ranked Missouri cruised past Oklahoma State 88-70 in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Tournament on Thursday. Denmon added eight rebounds, while Michael Dixon netted 13 points and handed out seven assists for the Tigers (28-4). Phil Pressey played the role of facilitator with 12 assists as second seeded Missouri advanced to the semifinal round, where they will face Texas tonight. The pre-game gets started at 8:30 tonight, and if Missouri wins they will play the winner of the Kansas/Baylor game in the Big 12 Championship game Saturday at 4:30. Both games will be on KSMO Radio.

Patrik Berglund and David Backes scored goals within 2:01 of each other early in the third period Thursday, leading the St. Louis Blues to a 3-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks. The Blues moved to 7-1 in their last eight games for an NHL-best 93 points, two more than the Eastern Conference-leading New York Rangers. They also took a four-point lead over idle Detroit for first place in the Central Division. Backes also scored the first goal for the Blues, who rattled off three unanswered after falling behind early in the second period. Jaroslav Halak made 24 saves in the win. The Blues will host the Columbus Blue Jackets Saturday night at 7:00 and you’ll be able to hear it on KSMO.

Shane Robinson and Matt Adams knocked in three runs apiece as the St. Louis Cardinals used a six-run burst in the bottom of the eighth to down the Boston Red Sox, 9-3, in exhibition play on Thursday. Jaime Garcia struck out four and did not allow a hit in a two-inning start for the Cardinals. The Cardinals play the Minnesota Twins today at 12:05.

Yuniesky Betancourt and Max Ramirez each smacked solo home runs as the Kansas City Royals blanked the Colorado Rockies, 5-0, on Thursday. Lorenzo Cain went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Felipe Paulino allowed three hits and a walk in a two-inning start for Kansas City. The Royals will play the Cincinnati Reds today at 2:05.

Funeral services for Jeanne Lynn Mertz of Cherryville, age 56, will be held Monday at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Martin-Trask Cemetery in Cherryville. Memorials may be made to the Center Ridge Pentecostal Church.

Funeral services for Velma P. Harlan of Rolla, age 86, will be held Monday at 1:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Hooker Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Diagnostic Center.

Graveside services for Clarence W. Farley of Rolla, age 75, will be held Tuesday at the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Salem with Full Military Honors. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.

Memorial services for Barbara Marie Pickett of Steelville, age 72, will be held Wednesday at 10:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Internment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.

Funeral services for Lester McBenge of Steelville, age 79, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00. Internment will be in the Steelville Cemetery in Steelville.

Funeral services for Maxine Evelyn Paulsmeyer of Rolla, age 87, are incomplete at this time but are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.
