The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors held their regular monthly meeting Thursday evening at the hospital library. Hospital Comptroller Stephanie Wofford presented the summary of operations for the month of January that showed 1,715 outpatient registrations during the month with 809 people using the emergency room. For the month, the hospital showed a loss from operations of $240,745, but with an excess of revenues over expenses after tax revenues of $87,119. For the year, the hospital showed an excess of revenues over expenses of $31,704. Wofford added that the money the hospital has been deducting from revenue totaling $378,000 for Medicare will be added back in the February statement. Director of Nursing Carol Lacy gave her report and there were 183 ambulance runs with 168 patients assessed and 39 dry runs, 27 surgery cases, 159 Home Health visits, 8,546 lab tests, 1,147 radiological procedures, 245 CT scans, 21 MRI scans, 17 nuclear med scans, 346 rehab treatments, 237 dialysis treatments and 372 clinical visits. Lacy also gave the Heartland Lions Eye Bank report and it showed that there were 26 total referrals in 2010 which is eight more than in 2009. There were 21 suitable donors and 18 families were approached in 2010 with nine patients consenting with a total of 13 corneas being transplanted domestically and internationally. In the construction update, Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor stated that the Receptionist area was moved on Wednesday, February 23^rd. He wanted to thank the hospital auxiliary for helping at the registration waiting area by taking names and keeping things organized. Pryor reported that a family physician from St. Louis was interested in moving to a rural area and may visit the hospital in March. Casey Lucas reported on the Physician Practice Management Software and the committee is now shoring up pricing and references to narrow it down to two vendors. Pryor said that there was a committee meeting on Hospice back on January 27^th and they learned about the rules and regulations from Ashley Sullins, R.N; and the bylaws for the Foundation Program are being reviewed by the committee and hospital attorney. Pryor also said that the Health Fair that was just held at the hospital had 211 participants. Pryor went on to say that he expects a contract from Krehbiel Engineering for the hospital lagoon to be ready for the board in March. The board approved the budgeted purchase of two Sony TV and TV mounts for the Maintenance Department for $616 from Wal-Mart. They also approved the non-budgeted purchase a walk-in bathtub from Victor Plumbing for $3,000 for Long-Term Care, an extended height stool for the Emergency Room from Automated Business Systems for $276, a refrigerator for meds in the Emergency Room from A.J. Madison for $553, a washing machine for the Laundry from GE Refrigeration for $380, a Lumex Chair for Dialysis from MMS for $1,205, a Chartlink License from CPSI for $2,900, two LCD monitors for Security and information Systems for $219 from CompUSA, two battery backups from ABS for $660 and a Square Scrub Machine for Housekeeping for $2,535 from Hillyard. The board then went into closed session.

The opening of trout season is tomorrow starting at 6:30 at Montauk State Park and at Meramec Spring Park. Visitors for opening day can expect to see improvements at all three state parks offering trout fishing. At Montauk State Park, the State Parks Youth Corps helped establish a stream team; collected fishing line and trash for more than four miles of stream, removed aquatic weeds from the catch-and-release area; developed a hummingbird garden by the lodge; and planted wildflowers throughout the park. Trout season in Missouri is a cooperative effort of the Division of State Parks, which manages state parks, and the Department of Conservation, which operates the hatcheries and stocks the streams with trout.

Antoine L'Estage and Nathalie Richard have won the 2011 Rally in the 100-Acre Wood after a flawless drive from start to end. L'Estage set a blistering pace early on, winning ten of the event's fifteen special stages and finishing 17.7 seconds ahead of international rally ace David Higgins. This victory was a particularly sweet one for L'Estage, who celebrated his birthday on Saturday, the second and final day of the rally. Subaru Rally Team USA's David Higgins and co-driver Craig Drew placed second overall and Higgins' Subaru teammate Dave Mirra rounded out the podium by maintaining third overall through most of the event with a solid drive. This is the second consecutive podium finish of the season for Mirra and co-driver Marshall Clarke, who are coming into their own after only two events together. A surprise last-minute entry from Travis Pastrana was short lived when Pastrana and co-driver Jeremy Wimpey crashed and rolled their 2007 ex-Colin McRae WRX STI on a left-hand corner on the second stage of the rally.

Jacob Pullen ignited Kansas State early and finished with 24 points, as the Wildcats continued to build a strong resume for the NCAA Tournament with an 80-70 victory over No. 20 Missouri. Marcus Denmon paced Missouri (22-7, 8-6) with 22 points, while Laurence Bowers had 16 points and nine rebounds in the loss, which snapped the club's four- game winning streak. Missouri closes its regular season with games at Nebraska on Tuesday and at home against rival Kansas on Saturday.

On Friday, Ben Bishop made 39 saves for the first shutout of his career as the St. Louis Blues toppled the Edmonton Oilers, 5-0, at Rexall Place. Chris Stewart scored twice while Patrik Berglund and Roman Polak both added a goal and an assist for the Blues. Then Sunday night, David Moss scored the lone goal 5:39 into the third period in the Calgary Flames' 1-0 win over St. Louis at the Saddledome. For the Blues, it marked the first time they were blanked since December 16, 2009 at Chicago. Ben Bishop made 26 saves for the Blues who have now dropped four of their last five games. They will face Calgary tomorrow night at 7:00.

The Buffalo Sabres have acquired forward Brad Boyes from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2011 Entry Draft. The 28-year-old Boyes had 12 goals and 29 assists in 62 games with the Blues this season.

The Salem Winter Sports Banquet will be held on Tuesday, March 8^th at 6:30 at the Salem High School Cafeteria to salute the Boys and Girls Basketball Teams and the Cheerleaders.

Funeral services for Barbara N. Phelps of Salem, age 76, will be held today at 1:00 at the Second Baptist Church in Salem. Interment will be in the Nash family Cemetery in Dent County. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary of Salem.

Funeral services for Edna Moutray of Steelville, age 88, will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 Monday. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.

Funeral services for Lena Mae Flemming of Rolla, age 96, will be held Tuesday morning at 11:30 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 10:30 until service time. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery in Rolla. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church of Rolla or the Rolla Presbyterian Manor.

Visitation services for Keith Randolph Hogan of Salem, age 55, will be held Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 at the Salem Faith Assembly Church. Memorials may be made to the Sound System at Salem Faith Assembly of Church. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem.

Funeral services for Jimmie Dean Young, of Salem, age 77 will be held Thursday at 2:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the New Hope Cemetery with Military Honors.
