The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Thursday, January 19^th at 12:06 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to the Salem Junior High School in reference to a fight. The investigation led to the detention of two female juveniles, both of Salem. They were released to their parents and the report will be forwarded to the Juvenile Office. Later that night at 6:53, an officer was sent to the Salem High School in reference a vehicle break-in. The investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown broke the passenger side window out of a white 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe and took a purse and contents valued at $443. On Saturday, January 21^st at 5:55 in the evening, an officer was dispatched to the Break Time Convenience Store in reference to a theft of fuel. The investigation revealed that the driver of a white 1996 Chevrolet truck pumped $35.02 in fuel and left without paying. Further investigation led to the arrest of the driver of the suspect vehicle, a 38-year old male of Black, for stealing and driving while drugged. He was issued a summons to appear in court and was later released on bond. On Monday, January 23^rd 7:56 in the evening, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 500 block of South Warfel in reference a four-year old child at home alone. The investigation led to the arrest of a 32-year old Salem male for endangering the welfare of a child. He was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. The child was released to his mother at the scene. On Tuesday, January 24^th at 7:00 in the evening, an officer transported a 33-year old Joplin male to Poplar Bluff Regional Hospital in lieu of a mental commitment order. On Wednesday, January 25^th at 6:25 in the evening, an officer transported a 20-year old a Springfield male to St. Johns Marion Center in Springfield in lieu of a mental commitment order. On Thursday, January 26^th at 6:25 in the evening, an officer transported a 59-year old Independence male to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla in lieu of a mental commitment order. On Friday, January 27^th at 2:50 in the early morning, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of the driver for possession of marijuana. The driver was issued summons to appear in court and was released. Later that night 10:53, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of the driver, a 22-year old Salem male, on an active warrant from Crawford County. He was given a date to appear in court and released on bond. The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers will host the Thayer Lady Bobcats in the final regular season home game of the year. It will be Senior Night where all the seniors will be recognized between the JV and varsity. The JV contest starts at 6:00 and you can hear the varsity game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com. You can also see the game on the Internet on fidelitylocal6.com with a paid subscription. Salem enters the game with a 4-15 record and 1-3 in the SCA.

Seven Lady Tiger Volleyball players have been selected to the Academic All-State Volleyball Team for 2011-12. They include Kayla Hemken, Kassidy Martin, Chandler Parks, Cheyenne Parker, Ashley Crocker, Sammy White and Kelsey Michno. Congratulations ladies on your achievement!

The Freshman volleyball team received the MSHSAA Distinguished Scholastic Team Achievement Award for 2011-12 with a team GPA of 3.24. The Varsity\JV volleyball teams received the MSHSAA Outstanding Scholastic Team Achievement Award for 2011-12 with a GPA of 3.7 and 3.3 respectively.

Former Salem Tiger, Missouri State and St. Louis University men's basketball coach Charlie Spoonhour passed away Wednesday morning at his family's home in North Carolina, at age 72. He coached the Bears from 1983-92 and compiled a 197-81 record while leading MSU to five NCAA Tournament appearances. He went on to coaching stops at Saint Louis University (1992-99) and UNLV (2001-04). He was 373-202 in 19 years overall as a Division I head coach.

The nation's best wide receiver - and arguably the single best player in this 2012 National Signing Day class - is carrying Missouri into the Southeastern Conference. Dorial Green-Beckham committed to the Tigers on Wednesday morning, ending weeks of speculation where the Springfield, Missouri product would end up. He immediately joins T.J. Moe in a now-loaded wide receiver corps to team with Henry Josey, the Big 12’s leading rusher until he went down with a season ending knee injury. James Franklin has to be especially pleased knowing he now has an impact downfield talent.

Funeral services for Charlotte Louise Parks of Salem, age 71, will be this morning at 11:00 at the Grace Community Church. Interment will be in the Mt. Herman Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Grace Community Church Young At Heart Ministry. All arrangements are under the direction of Wilson Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for Mae Elizabeth Nelson of Salem, age 90, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Marilyn Leora Barnes, age 75, will be held today at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.

Funeral services for Wilber Dean King of St. James, age 76, will be held today at 2:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Interment will be in the Roach Cemetery in Doolittle. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Funeral services for James Clevie Palmer of Salem, age 80, will be held Friday at 10:00 at the First Assembly of God Church in St. James. Visitation will be today from 5:00 to 7:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in St. James. Interment will be in the Fort Leonard Wood Veterans Cemetery at 1:00 with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to the First Assembly of God Church in St. James.

Memorial services for Velva Jean Smith of Salem, age 78, will be held Friday at 2:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 12:00 (noon) until service time. Memorials may be made to the Velva Smith Family.

Funeral services for David T. Gruver of Steelville, age 67, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Rivers of Life Fellowship Church in Steelville. Visitation will be Friday at the church from 3:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Barnicle Chapel Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Rivers of Life Fellowship Church. All arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James.

Memorial services for Harold R. “Fritz” Norfleet, Jr. of Salem, age 64, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Salem United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time at the Salem United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to the Dent County Animal Shelter. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
