The Salem Police Department released their reports involving well-being checks, revoked driving privileges, stealing, shoplifting and a missing purse. On Thursday, January 21st at 8:18 am, officers were detailed to West Seventh Street in reference to a well-being check. The police found 35-year old Earl Hall of Salem was deceased and contacted the Coroner. At 3:50 that afternoon, a 59-year old Salem man was observed driving by an officer who knew the subjects driving privileges to be revoked. He was stopped and placed under arrest for the violation. He was then issued a summons to appear in court and released. Then at 8:45 that evening an officer was dispatched to the 700 block of North Jackson in reference to a stealing incident. The investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown had entered an unsecured residence and took approximately $750 without permission. On Friday, January 22nd at 6:20 pm officers were sent to a residence on South Pershing in reference to a well-being check. The police discovered the body of 63-year old Clinton Richardson of Salem and contacted the Coroner. On Saturday, January 23rd at 10:15 am, an officer was dispatched to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifting incident that led to the arrest of a 23-year old Salem man for stealing. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. At 1:15 that afternoon, an officer returned to Wal-Mart in reference to a missing purse. The report revealed that the victim had paid for her purchases and was loading the items in her vehicle. After the items were loaded the victim couldn’t locate her black with a white ribbon purse. Anyone with any information regarding the stolen money, or the missing purse reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

The Salem Area Community Betterment Association “Gift of Time” Awards Banquet will be held on Thursday, February 16th at The Gathering Place at the Grace Community Church beginning at 6:30 pm. The Salem Area Community Betterment Association will host their annual volunteer recognition dinner, honoring citizens and organizations, who have significantly enhanced the quality of this community. Nominations are currently being sought for volunteers. Categories for nomination include arts and culture, community enhancement, education, historic preservation, humanitarianism, a youth category for an adult or adult organization, and a youth category for a youth or youth organization. Nomination forms are now available at the Salem Library, Salem TCRC and all the banks in town. Nominations must be submitted by 5:00 Saturday. You can send your nomination form to SACBA, P.O. Box 732, Salem, MO 65560. Tickets to the event are now available at the Salem TCRC, the Visitor’s Center and from individual Salem Area Community Betterment Association Board Members.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers will take on the Ava Bears in the 17th Annual McDonald’s Basketball Classic in Mountain Grove today at 4:30. The game has been moved up in an attempt to get the game played before the impending snow storm. Salem enters the game with a 5-11 record. The final round of the round robin tournament is scheduled for Saturday with the consolation game at 4:00, 3rd place game at 5:30 and championship game at 7:00.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers will host the Waynesville Tigers tonight at the Salem High School Gym. The Salem Lady Tigers are 11-6 on the year. The JV action begins at 6:00 followed by the varsity contest.

Christian Erhoff scored the game-winner in the third period, as Vancouver took a 3-2 win over St. Louis in its last game at General Motors Place for close to two months. Keith Tkachuk and T.J. Oshie each lit the lamp for the Blues, who have dropped three of four. Ty Conklin was charged with three goals on 34 shots in the loss. St. Louis plays at Edmonton tonight starting at 8:30 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

Funeral services for Ernest Quinton Schafer, Sr. of Hillsboro, age 84, will be held Friday at 10:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held today from 4:00 to 8:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Interment will be in the Jadwin Cemetery with Full Military Honors.

Funeral services for Vera Mae Morford of Rolla, age 95, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be held from 10:00 until service time Friday. Interment will be in the Ozark Memorial Gardens in Rolla. Memorials may be made to the Rolla Presbyterian Manor.

Funeral services for Kenneth E. Morris, Jr. of St. James, age 66, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Southard Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Hospice.

Funeral services for Wanda Crawford of Nixa, formerly of Salem, age 69, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Greeley Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the St. John’s Hospice.

Funeral services for Catherine N. House of St. James, age 90, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church of St. James or The Community Partnership.

Funeral services for Gene Charles Gapsch of Anutt, age 71, will be held Saturday at noon at the James and Gahr Mortuary n Rolla. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Salem. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Masonic Services for Ben Smith of Palmyra, formerly of Salem, age 99, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel.

Memorial services for Clinton Ray Richardson of Salem, age 63, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A wake will be held by the family Saturday evening at the 5th Street Pub. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for Roberta Lee Pierce of Salem, age 89, will be held Monday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Hermon Cemetery or Salem United Methodist Church.

Funeral services for Norman Sharwark of Salem, formerly of Florida, age 92, will be held Tuesday at the Florida Hills Memorial Gardens in Brooksville, Florida. All the arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel. 

Funeral services for Cecil Landers of Salem, age 89, will be held Tuesday at 1:00 at Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.
