The Dent County Commission held their regular meeting Monday morning at the courthouse. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams was in to inform the Commission that she received a check for National Forest money that totaled $134,751.54, but is $92,465.89 less than the 2016 amount. A total of $33,687.89 or 25% went to the Road and Bridge department. The other 75%, $101,063.65 was divided amongst the schools. Salem R-80 received $24,702.17; Oak Hill R-1 totaled $20,414.86; while Northwood R-4 had a total of $859.05. Also receiving money was the Viburnum C-4 district of $15,957.95 and Bunker C-3 had a check for $39,111.62. It was noted that unless this is re-authorized in April, this would be the last check for this year. During public comments, Beverly Atchison was in to discuss with the Commission her concern about the high number of cancer cases in the area and felt that the county road crews were spraying Round-up on county roads. The county does brush cutting, but no spraying of any kind is done and she was told contact the Missouri State Highway Department regarding any spraying being done. She then expressed concern that, according to Atchison, the children in this area test 1,000 times higher for lead than any others and wanted to know why no one ever tests the water in our area. It was noted that the water in Salem is tested annually and reported accordingly as well as posted at various locations around town. Richard LaBrash was in to inform the Commission about the Veteran’s Affairs Day to be held on Friday, April 28th at the American Legion Post #99/VFW Post from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Randy League with the Midwest Blue Oval Club was in to ask permission for use of the courthouse square on Saturday, September 9th for the Current River Car Show. The Commission vote 3-0 for approval. In road reports, Commissioner Purcell stated that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 4080 and 6280 and minor patching would take place at the junction of county roads 5520/5530, 5530/5600 and on 5380, at a couple spectator locations from the recent road rally. He went on to say that materials would be hauled to county road 4100 and a two man crew was servicing dump truck #117. Commissioner Larson stated that grading would be done on country roads 2330, 2380, 3330 and 4430 and materials would also be hauled to Dent County Road 3330. He went on to say that truck #75 was being serviced and tires were being switched on dump truck #116. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that all three commissioners attended the South Central County Commissioners meeting Friday in Houston. He also wanted to make it clear that both Proposition One and Proposition Two must pass in order for the jail project to move forward. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that absentee voting continues until 5:00 pm on Monday, April 3rd. She went on the say the last day an absentee ballot can be mailed out is Wednesday, March 29th and that voters must have a good reason in order to absentee vote. Curley also wanted to remind voters, the upcoming election April 4th, is the last election before voter ID will be required in order to vote. Last November, Missourians voted to pass Constitutional Amendment 6, paving the way for a photo ID requirement in Missouri. Effective June 1, 2017, a Missouri driver’s license, Missouri non-driver’s license, U.S. Passport or a Military I.D. may be used. David Wells, Craig Smith, and Brad Nash with the Dent County Fire Protection District along with Kelly Sinclair with the MRPC came in to discuss the CDBG Grant, for fire station improvements. They are looking to do some building renovations, re-do the roof, parking lot, add a couple of bay doors and make the restrooms ADA compliant. The estimated cost would be $980,000 and the grant would be for $350,000. The Federal Grant money that will be part of the SEFA report in the county budget should be under $750,000 limit, before the county would need a financial audit. The Commission agreed 3-0 to sign the agreement. Tom VanHatten with the 100 Acre Wood Road Rally came in to update the Commission on the success of the Road Rally over the weekend. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at the Dent County Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will conduct their meeting tonight in the hospital library beginning at 6:00 pm. Chief Financial Officer Monica Gargus will update the Board on the summary of operations and statistic reports for February, followed by Chief Nursing Officer Debbie Hines report for February. Hospital Administrator Kasey Lucas will then give reports on the hospital foundation, an auxiliary report. In old business, the Board will address the hospital retirement plan. In new business the Board will address purchases made for the hospital. The Board may vote to go into closed session.

The 100-Acre in the Woods Road Rally was held this past weekend in Crawford, Washington and Dent County with Arkadiusz and his co-driver Lukasz Wronski taking first place. The 2016 100-Acre in the Woods winner Patrick Moro and his co-driver Ole Holter took second place with Steve Bis and co-driver Scott McCarty taking third place. A nice collection of spectators watched the race at the six spectator locations in Dent County on Saturday as well as visiting the service stops out at The Commons, and the Parc Expose' in downtown Salem.

In spring training, the St. Louis Cardinals have the day off today.

The Kansas City Royals will take on the Arizonia Diamondbacks this afternoon at 3:10.

The St. Louis Blues will be back in action tonight as they travel to Colorado and take on the  Avalanche. The pre-game show will start at 7:30 and game time is 8:00 on KSMO Radio 1340 AM.

Funeral services for Bill Fink of Salem, age 93, will be held today at 1:00 at the First Baptist Church in Salem. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Lake Springs Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Moldova Missions and/or Sons of the American Legion Adopt a Vet Program. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary.

Funeral services for Russell Burke Feeler of Vienna, age 86, will be held Wednesday at 10:30 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church. Visitation will today from 5:00 to 7:30 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Interment will be in the Jefferson Barracks Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorials are suggested to the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rolla.

Funeral services for Joseph Sutton of Salem, age 25, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Sutton family for burial expenses.

Funeral services for Clellia June Ellerman of Salem, age 82, will be held Monday at 10:30 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.
