The Dent County Fire Protection District released their reports. On Sunday, December 20th at 11:29 in the morning, nine firefighters responded to a passenger vehicle fire call on Highway 19 South. The fire was extinguished and the scene was under control at 11:52. On Tuesday, December 22nd at 11:20 in the morning, seven firefighters created a landing zone at the station. Then at 3:34 that afternoon, nine firefighters were dispatched to a one-story wood structure on Highway 19 South with heavy smoke coming from the chimney. The fire was confined to the flue. There was no damage to the structure other than the flue. The scene was under control at 4:26. On Thursday, December 24th at 10:19 in the evening, 13 firefighters responded to a call on Dent County Road 3150 to a building fire in the Lenox Fire District. The Lenox Fire District called the Dent County Fire Protection District and reported that their radio system was malfunctioning. Units were searching for a way to the fire as the road ended and then met a pickup in the middle of the road, which directed them down a 2-mile driveway that led to the fire. The Dent County Fire Protection District arrived on the scene to find the structure on the ground and the owners did not need medical attention. Once the Lenox Fire District arrived on the scene, it was determined that the Dent County Fire Protection District was not needed and the units returned to base at 11:42. 

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct a Special Meeting today at the City Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington beginning at 1:30 to consider Bill #3185, an ordinance authorizing the Mayor to sign a quit-claim deed between the City of Salem and the Industrial Development Authority of Dent County. The Special Meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.

The Salem Police department released their reports. On December 19th at 1:20 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to the 700 block of North Washington in reference to property damage. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 30-year old Salem man for property damage. He was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. On December 19th at 8:15 in the evening, an officer was detailed to the 1000 block of West Franklin in reference to a disturbance. The investigation later led to the arrest of a 47-year old Salem man for an assault and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was issued a summons and was incarcerated. On December 21st at 10:00 in the evening, an officer was sent to the 1000 block of Highway 19 South in reference to a disturbance. The investigation later led to the arrest of a 22-year-old Springfield woman for disorderly conduct and peace disturbance. She was issued a summons to appear in court and was then released. On December 19th at 9:00 at night, an officer was called to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that two males were able to leave the store without paying for $905.00 worth of merchandise. The report is under investigation. On December 22nd at 12:00 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. The investigation led to the arrest of a 35-year old Ellington woman for stealing $65.00 of merchandise. She was issued a summons to appear in court for shoplifting and was then released. On December 22nd at 8:15 in the evening, an officer was contacted at in reference to a theft from a vehicle. The investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown stole from a 1996 Chevy S-10 a 120-piece socket set valued at $24.50 while the vehicle was parked unsecured at the Dollar General Store. The report is under investigation. On December 24th at 12:00 noon, an officer was sent to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. The investigation led to the arrest of a 17-year old Salem woman for stealing $75.00 worth of merchandise. Subject was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. On December 26th at 12:30 in the afternoon, a vehicle was stopped for a stop sign violation. The investigation led to the arrest of a 37-year old Salem man for driving while intoxicated and a stop sign violation. He was issued summons to appear in court and was released to the custody of a family member. Anyone with information on the theft of the tools or stealing at Wal-Mart is ask to contact the Salem Police at 573-729-4242.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers won their second game of the year as they beat the St. Joe Benton Cardinals at the US Bank Invitational Tournament in Rolla by the score of 62-53. Phillip Moser scored 20 points to lead the way for Salem with Dex West and Jacob Kettner each netting eight for the Tigers. They are 2-7 on the year and will face Licking next Tuesday.

The Salem Lady Tigers move into the fifth place game today at the Lebanon Tournament as they beat the Houston Tigers yesterday by the score of 29-18. Salem was led in scoring by Jennifer Herndon with nine points and Danielle Connell scored seven more. Salem is 6-4 on the year and will face Springfield Central in the game today starting at 11:30.

The Missouri Football Tigers will take on Navy today in the Texas Bowl. You can hear the contest on KSMO starting at 1:30 pre-game show followed by the game broadcast at 2:30.

Laurence Bowers scored 17 points and pulled down six rebounds to lead the Missouri Tigers past the Kangaroos of UMKC, 91-57. Marcus Denmon contributed 14 points while Kim English also hit double figures with 11 points. Missouri is 10-3 on the year and will face Georgia Saturday at 2:30. The St. Louis Blues will try to break their three game slide tonight as they host the Vancouver Canucks at the Scottrade Center. The game time has been moved up to 6:00 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio. The Blues have also lost their last three games at home and have the worst home winning percentage in the NHL.

Funeral services for Edith Devall of Salem, age 83, will be held today at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from noon until service time. Memorials are suggested to the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery.

Funeral services for Barbara Bacon of O'Fallon, formerly of Salem, age 67, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Dry Fork Cemetery.

Funeral services Paul Vance of Iberia, formerly of Salem, age 80, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Hickory Point Cemetery in Iberia. Memorials are suggested to the Bible Fund.

Funeral services for Tina Rachelle Thomlinson of Salem, age 47, will be Monday at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel.  Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Street Cemetery at Big Creek.

Funeral services for Michael Valdez of Salem, are incomplete at this time bur are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
