The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Monday morning in the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report for District 1, Rusty Chamberlain gave the report in Commissioner Dennis Purcell’s absence.  Chamberlain reported that brush would be cut and culverts cleaned on Dent County Roads 5600 and 4160. He went on to say that if weather conditions permitted, the patching of chip and seal would be done on county road 5080. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that brush was being cut on Dent County Roads 2150 and 2155, and that maintenance was being done on trucks #72 and #65. Larson went on to say that creek rock was going to be hauled and would be screened at the Road and Bridge Department if the weather permitted. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reminded everyone that there would be no Commissioner’s meeting Thursday, New Year’s Day, and the next regular meeting would be Monday January 5th. He noted that there would be a Special Commissioner’s Meeting at 11:00 am today, December 30th to pay the last bills for 2014. Skiles added that the Dent County Collectors’ office would be open from 8:00 am until 5:30 pm today and Wednesday for taxpayers’ convenience. It was noted that tax payments could be put in the lockbox in front of the Courthouse through the 31st. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that her office was continuing to work on the 2015 budget and that payroll was being approved today. Curley reminded everyone that newly elected Dent County office holders would be sworn in Wednesday at 1:00 in the Courthouse courtroom. The next regular meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday January 5th in the Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports 12 people died during the Christmas holiday counting period that was from 6 p.m., Wednesday, December 24th to 11:59 p.m., Sunday, December 28th. During this year’s 102-hour counting period, the Patrol investigated 284 traffic crashes, which included 91 injuries and five of the fatalities. In addition, troopers arrested 66 people for driving while intoxicated. There were no boating crashes and no one drowned during the Christmas 2014 counting period. Last year, during the 30-hour Christmas holiday counting period, there were 207 traffic crashes. In those crashes, one person was killed and another 79 were injured. The Patrol investigated 53 traffic crashes, which included 18 injuries and one fatality. In addition, troopers arrested eight people for driving while intoxicated last year. There were no boating crashes and no one drowned during the Christmas 2013 counting period. Five of the fatalities occurred in the Troop A, Lee’s Summit area; two fatalities occurred in each of the Troop C, Weldon Spring, Troop E, Poplar Bluff, and Troop F, Jefferson City, areas; and one fatality occurred in Troop D, Springfield, area. Within city limit areas, the Kansas City Police Department investigated a five-fatality traffic crash and the Springfield Police Department investigated a single vehicle fatality.

The Dent County Collector’s office will be open extended hours for your convenience in paying your real estate taxes and personal property taxes. The office will be open from 8:00 to 5:30 through New Year’s Eve. Remember, your taxes MUST be paid by December 31st to avoid paying interest and penalties.

Time is running out!!! The Missouri Development Finance Board has made available, effective immediately, 50% tax credits to individuals and businesses who contribute toward the renovation of the former US Bank building, which has been purchased by the Salem Public Library. Any contributions of $250 or more during 2014, will apply to that year, but you only have until tomorrow to get these tax credits for the 2014 tax year! Completion of this project will give our library much-needed space for books, additional technology, and storage as well as increased workspace for staff. This will be a beautiful structure that will enhance our downtown area and eliminate another empty structure. All contributions are appreciated and will be used only for this renovation project. Jimmy Whitt scored 29 points and Chase Thomas added 21 more as the Hickman Kewpies beat the Salem Basketball Tigers, 68-62 in the US Bank Holiday Invitational Tournament in Rolla. Kobe Mead netted 26 points for Salem and Zayne Kyser added 18 more as the Tigers have now lost three straight games and are 4-4 on the year. Payton Curley scored 32 points to lead the Salem Lady Basketball Tigers Monday as they dominated the Mansfield Lady Lions from start to finish and beat them by the score of 68-36 at the First Annual Family Pharmacy Tournament in Mountain Grove. Savannah Hanning became the latest Lady Tiger to score 1,000 points in her career as she netted 22 for Salem and now has 1,003 points over her 3½ years. The Lady Tigers improved to 6-3 on the year and they will play Ava today in the consolation championship.

Martin Brodeur posted his first shutout as a member of the Blues and the 125th of his illustrious career as he made 16 saves in the St. Louis' Blues 3-0 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Monday. Dmitrij Jaskin, Chris Butler and Vladimir Tarasenko all scored for the Blues, who ended a four-game skid with a solid defensive effort. Paul Stastny finished with two assists for St. Louis. The Blues will be in Nashville tonight to face the Predators at 6:30. You can hear the game on KSMO.

The Missouri Tigers will face the Minnesota Golden Gophers New Years Day at 11:00 on KSMO in the in the Citrus Bowl in Florida.

Graveside services and interment for Lillian Marie Spencer of O'Fallon, Missouri, age 93, will be held today at 1:00 at the Steelville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon until service time Tuesday at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.

Memorial services for John B. Colgrove of Rolla, age 72, will be this evening from 5:00 to 7:00 at the Rolla Chapel of the James and Gahr Mortuary. Memorials may be made to the St. James Veteran’s Home.

Funeral services for Bill Rowden, age 81, of Salem will be Wednesday at 12:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the Iberia Cemetery, Iberia, Missouri. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services for Susan A. Florence of Salem, age 70, will be held Monday morning at 11:00 at the Salem Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time Monday. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Susan Florence funeral fund.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring for Barbara Miller, age 70, who passed away Saturday in Crystal City, Missouri. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.

Beverly Jean Oberlin of Viburnum, age 68, passed away December 26th. There will be visitation or service. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary of Viburnum.
