The Missouri State Highway Patrol has released an update for an accident that took the life of an Ellington man on Sunday, December 22nd at 2:00 in the early morning. According to the report, 21-year old Dallas Lanham of Bunker was driving a 2013 Ford north on Route M near County Road 100 when he turned into the path of a 2007 Chevrolet driven north by 23-year old Odell Kirk of Ellington. The vehicles then struck and left the roadway. Odell was pronounced dead at the scene by Carter County Corner Erik McSpadden at 2:45 and his body was taken to the McSpadden Funeral Home in Van Buren. An occupant in the Chevrolet, 23-year old Tasha Parks of Ellington, suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. Odell was the only one not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford sustained moderate damage and the Chevrolet was totaled in the accident. They were both removed from the scene by Mike and Ike’s Towing. According to court records, Lanham was arrested on Thursday, December 26th and charged with leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in an injury and property damage.

The Salem Police Department released reports. On Sunday, December 15th at 2:48 in the afternoon, an officer made contact with a 30-year old Salem male in the 500 block of South Tower who had an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. He was taken into custody and incarcerated pending an appearance in court. At 4:16 that afternoon, an officer made contact with a 24-year old Salem male at Walmart who had an active arrest warrant from Dent County. He was taken into custody and released with a new court date after posting bond. On Monday, December 16th at 4:39 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 700 block of South Macarthur in reference to an assault and a stolen vehicle. The investigation revealed that a 35-year old Salem male had assaulted a 38-year old Salem female and stole a white 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe that belongs to the victim. On Wednesday, December 18th at 6:00 in the evening, an officer made contact with a 46-year old Salem male at Walmart who had two active arrest warrants from the City of Salem. He was taken into custody and released with a new court date after posting bond. On Thursday, December 19th at 3:59 in the early morning, an officer made contact with a 26-year old Salem male in the 600 block of South Jackson who had an active arrest warrant from St. James. He was taken into custody and incarcerated pending extradition. Later that morning at 11:32, an officer made contact with a 34-year old Salem male near the intersection of Macarthur and Rolla who had an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. He was taken into custody and incarcerated pending a court appearance. Later on that evening at 11:38, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft from a vehicle. The investigation revealed that someone broke the driver side door glass out of a green 2000 Ford Ranger parked in the 500 block of North Washington and took a wallet and contents valued at $80.00. The value of the damage to the vehicle is $500. On Friday, December 20th at 3:38 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 700 block of North Pershing in reference to a domestic disturbance. That investigation led to the arrest of a 32-year old Salem male for disorderly conduct. He was issued a summons to appear in court and incarcerated on a 12-hour hold. Later that evening at 8:45, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that someone took an iPod, valued at $150, from a residence in the 100 block of South Henderson. A little later at 9:10, an officer was dispatched to the Salem Hospital in reference to an assault that occurred in the 1800 block of South Oak. The investigation revealed that a 42-year-old Salem female had been assaulted by an unknown male wearing a gray sock hat. It was reported that the suspect fled into the wood line from the parking lot of the Salem Apartments after the assault. The victim was treated for minor injuries and released. The Salem Lady Tigers cruised to a 62-33 win over Eugene in the second round of the Lebanon Tournament on Friday. Savannah Hanning had 15 points while Kari Hartridge added 14 points for Salem. The Lady Tigers then advanced to the consolation game on Saturday against Dixon. Salem held on to beat Dixon, 46-44. Kari Hartridge had a team high 12 points while Savannah Hanning and Cameron Kuhn each added 11 points. The Lady Tigers are now 3-5 on the year and will play Dora at Mountain Grove on Thursday in a makeup game from the Cabool Tournament.

The Salem Tiger Boys basketball team will host St. James tonight at the SHS gym. JV will start at 6:00 with the varsity to follow. Salem is 2-2 on the year and you’ll be able to hear the varsity game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com.

Jabari Brown nailed a go-ahead 3-pointer with 55.1 seconds remaining and No. 25 Missouri defeated NC State, 68-64, on Saturday night. Jordan Clarkson had 21 points and four assists, Earnest Ross tallied 11 points and 13 rebounds and Brown netted 17 points for Missouri (11-1), which was coming off its first loss last Saturday against Illinois. Missouri will host Long Beach State on Saturday.

Kevin Shattenkirk's goal in the fifth round of the shootout completed St. Louis' comeback from a late two-goal deficit and sent the hosts to a 6-5 decision over Chicago at Scottrade Center on Saturday night. Vladimir Tarasenko and Patrik Berglund scored late in the third period to force overtime for the Blues, who played without leading scorer Alex Steen, placed on injured reserve prior to the contest with a concussion. On Sunday, Kevin Shattenkirk's goal late in overtime lifted the St. Louis Blues to a 3-2 win over the Dallas Stars from American Airlines Center. Jaden Schwartz and T.J. Oshie scored in regulation for St. Louis, while Brian Elliott made 28 saves to earn the win. The Blues will play the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday and you can hear it on KSMO at 4:30.

Golden Tate caught eight passes for 129 yards and a touchdown and Marshawn Lynch rushed for 97 yards and a TD as the Seattle Seahawks locked up the NFC's No. 1 seed with a 27-9 win over the St. Louis Rams on Sunday. Kellen Clemens completed 21-of-30 passes for 157 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions for the Rams (7-9), who were held to just 13 rushing yards. St. Louis will have the No. 2 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft after Washington's loss earlier on Sunday. The Rams will receive the Redskins' pick to complete the Robert Griffin III trade.

Kept alive by a pair of losses earlier in the day, the San Diego Chargers rallied from a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to post a 27-24 overtime win over Kansas City and nail down the AFC's final wild card spot. Already locked into the conference's No. 5 seed, Kansas City (11-5) rested the majority of its regulars in preparation for Saturday's playoff clash at Indianapolis.
