According to City Clerk Mary Happel, three people have signed up for the aldermanic seats that are open. Incumbent Hadyn Powell has signed up for the East side, while Joe Shelton and Kenny Nash have signed up for the West side. Signups will continue until January 20th at the City Administrative Offices during regular business hours. There is a $25 filing fee. Citizens wishing to run for office must be at least 21-years of age, be a US Citizen and must have lived in the ward you intend to serve for at least one year. The Salem Police Department released more reports. On Monday, December 15th at 9:31 am, an officer was detailed to the Walnut Motel in reference to damage to private property. The investigation of the report revealed a person or persons unknown damaged property belonging to Walnut Motel valued at $398.00. Further investigation led to the arrest of a 32-year old Salem male for the damage. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. That afternoon at 12:35, an officer was dispatched to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter. That investigation led to the arrest of a 46-year old Salem male for stealing merchandise valued at $5.97. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Tuesday, December 16th at 2:29 in the early morning, an officer observed a green 2000 Pontiac Grand Am parked in the Old Fairground lot between Grand and Orchard.  Upon closer inspection the officer found that the vehicle had been reported stolen from Sullivan, Missouri. The vehicle was towed by Whitaker Towing to be released to Sullivan Police Department as evidence. Then at 9:00 that morning, an officer transported a 33-year old male of Cuba, Missouri from Crawford County to Dent County Jail in lieu of an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. Later that same morning at 10:08, an officer was detailed to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter. That investigation led to the arrest of a 41-year old Rolla male or stealing merchandise valued at $795.80. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. That night at 9:20 pm, an officer responded to a residence in the 600 block of North Washington in reference to a disturbance. The investigation of the report revealed that a 46-year old Salem male had violated an Ex-Parte order and fled the scene.  On Wednesday, December 17th at 7:31 in the evening, an officer went to a residence in the 500 block of South Jackson and made contact with a 35-year old Salem male who had an active arrest warrant from Texas County. He was taken into custody on the warrant and incarcerated pending extradition. Troop I of the Missouri State Highway Patrol recorded six traffic fatalities during the month of November 2014.  This is three more than for November of 2013. Year-to-date the fatalities for 2014 are 26, which is four more than the first 11 months of last year. This past November there were a total of 226 crashes with 62 injuries and six fatalities, while in November of 2013, there were 189 crashes with 72 injuries and three fatalities. The breakdown by county shows that in Dent County there were 13 accidents reported with one injury and one fatality, Phelps County had 61 crashes with 15 injuries and two fatalities recorded, while in Crawford County, there were 32 crashes reported with nine injuries and one fatality. In the other counties, Maries County had 14 accidents reported with 12 injuries and one fatality, Laclede County recorded 56 crashes with 13 injuries and one fatality, and in Pulaski County, there were 50 accidents with 12 injuries. There were no fatalities in Pulaski County.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers participated in the 1st Annual Family Pharmacy Basketball Tournament at Mountain Grove. In the first game, the Lady Tigers got out to an early lead against the Lady Panthers, but they took over the game in the 2nd quarter and went on to beat the Lady Tigers by the final score of 54-42. Payton Curley scored 15 to lead the Lady Tigers in that game. On Saturday, The Lady Tigers faced the Lady Red Wings of Eminence and they won that game easily by a score of 70-25 starting with a 22-2 first quarter lead. Payton Curley and Savannah Hanning each scored 22 points to lead the Lady Tigers whose record stands now at 5-3 on the year. The Lady Tigers will face Mansfield this morning at 11:00 at Mountain Grove. Should Salem win today, they would face the winner of the Ava/Chadwick game on Tuesday.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers will be in Rolla today at 2:00 to face Columbia Hickman in the first round of the US Bank Holiday Invitational Tournament at the Gale Bullman Multipurpose Building on the Missouri S&T Campus. Salem enters the game with a 4-3 record and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio or hear it online at ksmoradio.com beginning with Tiger Talk and Coach Phillip McClintock at 1:45. Defensemen Trevor Daley and Jason Demers scored power-play goals in the second period as the Dallas Stars edged the St. Louis Blues 4-3 at Scottrade Center. Vladimir Tarasenko netted his 21st goal of the season for the Blues, who suffered their fourth straight loss. David Backes and Alex Pietrangelo also scored, and Jake Allen stopped 20-of-24 shots. The Blues will be right back at it tonight as they host the Colorado Avalanche starting at 6:30. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

The Kansas City Chiefs' Chase Daniel made his second NFL start, completing 16-of-27 passes for 157 yards leading the Chiefs to a 19-7 win over the San Diego Chargers, eliminating them from the playoffs this year, but the Chiefs were also eliminated when both Baltimore and Houston won. The Chiefs finished 9-7.

The Seahawks (12-4) clinched a first-round bye and home field advantage throughout the playoffs as they came from behind to beat the Rams on Sunday, 20-6. The Rams finished the year with a 6-10 record.

Funeral services for Ollie Gene Coleman of Cherryville, age 87, will be held today at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be from 11:00 this morning until service time. Interment will be in the Gregory Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to the Sligo United Methodist Church.

Memorial services and visitation for Mary Ellen Slone of Salem, age 56, will be held this morning at 10:00 at the New Harmony Church. Donations may be made to help the family with funeral expenses.

Graveside services and interment for Lillian Marie Spencer of O'Fallon, Missouri, age 93, will be held Tuesday at 1:00 at the Steelville Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday from noon until service time Tuesday at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.

Memorial services for John B. Colgrove of Rolla, age 72, will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 at the Rolla Chapel of the James and Gahr Mortuary. Memorials may be made to the St. James Veteran’s Home.

Funeral services for Bill Rowden, age 81, of Salem will be Wednesday at 12:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the Iberia Cemetery, Iberia, Missouri. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.

Beverly Jean Oberlin of Viburnum, age 68, passed away December 26th. There will be visitation or service. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary of Viburnum.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring for Barbara Miller, age 70, who passed away Saturday in Crystal City, Missouri.  All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
